현대인의 삶은 늘 쫓기듯 바쁘고 치열하다. 단조로운 듯한 일상 속에서도 어김없이 경쟁은 반복된다. 자연은 이러한 일상의 치열함에서 벗어나 숨을 고르고 여유를 찾고 안식을 얻는 공간이다. 나 역시 저 멀리 녹음이 짙고 아름다운 경치가 어우러지는 곳으로의 여행을 꿈꾸며 지친 하루의 스트레스를 이겨낸다. 숨가빴던 하루, 일정을 마치고 집에 돌아와 아늑한 내 침대에 몸을 뉘어 잠을 청하는 그 순간에는 어떤 아름다운 곳으로의 여행도 부럽지 않다. 그저 오늘 하루를 잘 마쳤다는 뿌듯함과 내일도 계획대로 일이 잘 흘러가길 바라는 작은 기대감을 가지고 행복하게 잠들 뿐이다.

비록 어제와 유사한 오늘이 또 반복되어 특별하지 않지만 나름대로의 다채로움과 편안함, 그리고 재미가 있었던 나의 일상에 자연이 놀러 온다면 어떨까? 언제나 일상에 찌든 인간들을 위해 아낌없이 품을 내어주던 자연을 현대 문명에 초대하여 그간 받았던 위로와 안식을 조금이나마 되돌려 준다면 어떨까 하는 상상이 나의 작업의 기본 발상이다.

나는 자연을 나의 일상으로 초대하여, 놀고 즐기며 휴식하는 모습을 그린다. 문명을 통해 구축한 인간의 휴식 양태는 자연과 사뭇 다른 것이기에 아마 자연은 처음에는 낯설어 하고 어색해 할지 모른다. 그러나 나는 인간이 자연으로부터 위로와 안식을 제공 받았듯이 그것을 자연에게도 돌려주고 싶다. 실내로 초대되어 놀러 온 자연은 충분한 휴식을 취하게 되고, 이후 제자리로 되돌아가게 된다. 이것은 인간이 지친 심신을 자연을 통해 추스르고 활기를 회복하여 일상으로 복귀하여 더욱 건강한 하루를 보내게 되는 것과 같은 것이다.

내가 초대한 자연은 나무의 단순화된 이미지와 절제된 몇 가지의 색과 함축적인 이미지로 표현되고 있다. 이는 객관적 현상으로 존재하는 자연물에 대한 관찰을 통해 채집된 이미지를 주관적으로 해석하여 부호화시키는 과정을 거쳐 이루어진 것이다. 인간은 늘 자연을 자기만의 일방적 방식으로 이해하고 행동하였다. 그 결과 따사로운 햇살과 살랑거리는 바람과 같이 다양한 방식으로 우리들에게 끊임없이 소통하고자 건네는 내밀한 말들을 간과하였는지도 모른다. 나는 이제라도 나만의 방식으로 자연과 소통하며 그 내밀한 말들에 귀 기울이고자 한다.

나의 자연은 주변 사람들에 대한 관찰의 결과를 바탕으로 조형적으로 개괄하여 표현한 것이다. 그리고 이들의 다양한 휴식의 양태를 통하여 그동안 자연이 우리들에게 배풀어 주었던 위로와 안식의 고마움을 되돌려 주고자 하였다. 평범한 일상이지만 그 순간을 포착하여 그림으로 나타내다 보면 나의 일상이 특별하게 느껴지고 더 큰 애정이 생긴다. 나의 작품을 통해 많은 사람들이 내가 느낀 일상의 소중함에 공감하여 자신의 하루를 더욱 사랑하게 되길 바란다. ■ 김이린

People nowadays are always busy as a bee and in fierce competition. The rivalry continues to repeat itself in a tedious daily life. In these situations, nature is a place to get away from the competitive reality and catch a breath to relax and find some rest. I too relieve my tiresome day's stress by dreaming of a trip far away from where the scenery is beautiful in the shade of trees. However I do not envy any luxurious trip at the moment when I finish my busy day, and then go home to sleep in my cozy bed. I am simply proud to have finished my day in one piece and happily go to sleep with a small expectation of hope that things will progress satisfactorily tomorrow as well. ● Although every repeated day may not be special, it still has its own way of being diverse, comfortable, and fun. Here, what if nature came to visit this daily life? The basic idea in my artworks is to imagine what it would be like to invite the nature to the modern civilization and return some of the comfort and relaxation that its given to distressed people through this day. I imagine inviting the nature to my daily life for it to play and enjoy some rest. Human's concept of 'rest' in society might be quite different from the natures', and it could be awkward and uncomfortable at first but, I want to return the favor to nature just as we were able to relax and find sanctuary. In my works, nature is invited indoors to have plenty of rest, and then return to its original place afterward. This is the same as when humans restore vitality from nature and relieve exhausted minds so that they can return to their daily routines much healthier. ● The invited nature is represented by a simplified figure of a tree and an implicative image of some moderate colors. Images are collected by observing the existence of objective natural objects and they are encoded into subjective interpretations in this process. We have always misunderstood and acted unilaterally towards nature. In conclusion, nature has constantly been sending us signs to communicate with us in various ways, such as the warm sunshine or the breezing wind, which people may have overlooked. From now on, I will attempt to communicate with nature in my own way and listen to their inner words. ● I draw nature based on the formative outline of observing the people around me. Through various aspects of their concept of 'rest', I wanted to return the indebtedness of comfort and peace that nature has granted people. When I seize the moment and paint it, my ordinary life becomes exclusive and more appealing. I hope that many people would feel empathy towards my artworks on the preciousness of everyday life, and find their lives more lovable. ■ KIMIRIN
