바람 Wind

봄이면 해마다 새 잎이 돋아나고, 가을이면 잎이 모두 땅에 떨어져 앙상한 가지만 남는다. 어린 나무는 자라서 고목이 되고, 고목은 다시 썩어서 흙으로 돌아간다. 흙이 나무이고 나무가 흙인 셈이다. 그러면 과연 나무의 진실은 무엇인가. 존재는 어디로부터 오며, 우리는 어디로 가는 것인가. 영원 할 것만 같은 많은 것들이 부서져 소멸한다. 쉽사리 상채기가 만들어지는 나를 본다. 나의 그림 그리는 일은 정말 부서지기 쉬운 우리 존재들의 몸짓과 내 주변 환경 속에서 보이지 않는 어떤 징후를 헤아리는 일로부터 시작된다. ● 예컨대 낮에 우리는 나무를 본다. 까만 어둠이 덮이면 그것이 보이지 않지만 나무는 여전히 거기에 있다. 나는 시간의 흐름에 따라 변화하는 주변 환경 속에서 존재의 의미를 되짚어 보고 싶었다. 내 그림에서 우측 화면에 있는 검정색은 삼원색의 혼합물로 모든 색을 흡수하는 포용력을 갖는다. 칠 흙 같은 어둠속에서 이따금씩 반짝이는 빨강과 파랑, 누런빛은 긴 밤, 어둠의 터널을 뚫고 나온 여명처럼, 내 삶 속에서 희미하게 떠오르는 기억들, 희망 그리고 꿈에 관한 기록일 것이다. 사람들이 내 그림에서 아무것도 볼 수 없다고 하더라도 나는 거기에 나무가 있음을 느낀다. ■ 양규준

In the evening I walk along the edge of a stream and stare at the sky and murmuring myself, the sound hovers in an empty space but is not the empty space it hovers through. I sense this space is nature and has the energy of life. Flowing water, soaring mountains and leisurely floating clouds develop the energy by ceaselessly colliding with yin and yang. The unseen forces of space ensure the existence of the universe. Here, in this moment, is my existence in this infinite space. My process of painting began by appreciating the invisible signs within the environment around me. This is where the movement in the marks came from. ● More universally, over a year, the leaves fall from the trees in autumn, bud in spring, a seedling grows and eventually the tree returns to the earth. So the earth is a tree; the tree is the earth. A tree is there for us to see in daylight and even thought we may not see the tree in darkness, we know the tree is still there. Then what is mind, nature and reality? Ultimately nature repeats the process of expanding and contracting by the movement of yin and yang and mind is part of that and participates in it. The problem is that this very complete world is not tangible nor visible nor concrete but exists only in the symbolic imagination, much as a dream, to be evoked in visual or poetic language, as in the world of abstract space. ■ YANGGYUJOON
