숭고의 간극(Intervention)

숭고와 개발:인간과 자연의 관계에 대하여 ● 한성필 작가는 환경, 자원 개발 그리고 인간과 자연의 관계를 작품 주제로 삼고 있다. 이번에 열리는 '숭고의 간극'展은 정통적 다큐멘터리 접근의 사진적 문법을 통해 상황을 서술함과 동시에, 뛰어난 시각적 방식의 재현을 통해 민감한 환경에 대한 이야기를 다룬다. 프랑스 원자력 발전소에서 나오는 수증기, 급격하게 녹아 내리고 있는 산악빙하와 대륙빙하, 북극과 남극의 석탄광산과 포경기지의 서사적 유적, 이와 같은 풍경을 담고 있는 그의 작품들은 미적인 동시에 비판적인 시각으로 자연의 숭고와 인간의 과잉 개발에 대해 이야기한다. 기념비적인 빙하의 장엄한 풍경 앞에 놓인 대규모의 버려진 포경기지, 폐허가 된 산업지역의 모습은 관람자에게 경외감을 주는 동시에 생태적 자원 개발에 대해 진지하게 생각할 기회를 제공한다. 그는 이 작품 시리즈로 2016년 일우 사진상 출판부문을 수상하였다. ■ 일우 스페이스

INTERVENTION _ Han Sungpil The Exhibition of ILWOO Photography Prize 2016 ● Exploitation and Sublimity: on the Relationship between Humankind and Nature Han's Intervention discusses a dual-intervention involving nature, man and art. While the first intervention is man's exploitation of nature, a seemingly unilateral impact of the former on the latter, the second one is Han's photography: and artistic intervention into the first one, a supra-scientific effort that hints how the first one is in fact a bilateral phenomenon. His works on nuclear power plants and diverse features of the polar regions all share two ideas in common, that A), all human behavior which results in reshaping nature leads to nature accordingly reshaping mankind, and B), by exercising an artistic perspective on such mutuality, we can better observe and understand the true sublimity of nature. The Ilwoo Foundation's grand prize of art is a token of sincere appreciation to this grandeur 'intervention into intervention.' ■ ILWOO SPACE
