갈망하기에 아름다움이 있다면, 원하는 그 자체로 아름다울 수 있을까. 아름다운 세상 뒤로 슬픔이 가득해 보였지만, 무엇을 할 수 있는지 알 수 없었다. 스쳐갈 존재를 마주함이 두려운 만큼 아픈 세상에게도 부끄러웠다. 다만 강물같은 깨달음을 얻지 못했으니 그저 그런 모습을 그려야겠다고 생각했다. 흩뿌려진 문제의 누적들과 함께, 그림으로써 심연에 다가설 수 있다면. 혹시 그것이 내가 할 수 있는 일인지도 모르겠다. 그렇게 새벽같이 차가운 맛을 그리고 싶었다. (2016) ■ 정원희

If the beauty is derived from human desire, could the desire be a sign of beauty? Behind the layers of a beautiful world around me, it was full of sorrow. I could not find what to do. As much as I feared facing the ones that would slip away in times past, I was shameful in this painful world. Left in the dark, away from the light of the rivers, I had no choice but to make my own strokes of the world as I witnessed. In the midst of piles of shattered questions, I only hoped to reach an inch closer toward the abyss via my works. Perhaps it was what I am meant to do.
