이정태는 중앙대학교 조소과에서 조각을 전공하였고 동대학원을 졸업하였다. 그는 '보이지 않는 것'을 탐구하고 조형적으로 구상하는 작업을 진행해 오고 있다. ● 작가가 고민하고 있는 '보이지 않는 것'은 인간의 내면, 정신과 같은 것으로 2010년부터 그림자에 빗대어 표현되었다. 작가에게 그림자란 실재의 존재를 증명하는 훌륭한 소재이자 본래의 형상을 상상하게 하는 매개체다. 주체에 따라, 주변 환경에 따라 변화되는 그림자의 특성은 '고정된 기준'에 대한 의문으로 이어진다.

청담동 셀로아트에서 8월 1일부터 31일까지 진행되는 『Non-standard』전시에서는 '기준의 모호함'에 대한 관심을 보다 깊이 있게 고찰한 작가의 세계관이 드러난다. ● 작가는 여행 중 제주 바다로 떠밀려온 나뭇조각을 우연히 발견하게 된다. 본래의 쓰임새를 짐작할 수 없었던 버려진 나뭇조각은 '기준의 모호함'에 대한 작가의 고민에 파장을 일으킨다. 이후 작가는 나무 재질의 쓰레기를 채집하기 시작했다. 휘어지고 구부러진 나뭇조각이 작가의 세계를 담아낼 캔버스가 되는 순간 작가의 세계는 다시 한 번 굴절되어 제시된다.

특히, 채집된 나뭇조각 작품을 토대로 직접 나무를 조각한 작품은 굳어진 기준을 흔드는 작가만의 의지가 엿보이는 부분이다. 뒤틀린 구조, 휘어진 평면, 긁어낸 나무 표면은 모든 기준을 뒤튼다. 어디가 정면인지 알 수 없는 조각 위에 작가가 설정한 기준에 따라 그려진 선과 면은 보는 시점에 따라 착시를 불러일으킨다. 이는 작가가 설정한 기준을 찾아 움직이게 하는 호기심을 자극하는 요소로, 작품을 바라보는 시점을 변화시키고 그에 따라 작품이 다르게 보이며 기준의 불확실성을 경험하게 한다. ● 작품 앞을 서성이며 고정된 기준에 의문을 던지는 작가의 성찰을 바라볼 때 흔들리는 기준 너머로 보이지 않는 세계가 열리기 시작한다. ■ 셀로아트

Jeung tae Lee has majored in sculpture at the department of plastic arts in Chung-ang University and has graduated from graduate school of Chung-ang University. He is not only studying 'objects that cannot be seen', but also conducting works to design plasticly. ● As an inner side of human and spirit, 'the objects which cannot be seen' that the artist concerns has expressed with a shadow from 2010. The shadow for artist is not only a valuable material to prove an existence of existence, but also a medium which makes viewers to imagine an original form. The characteristics of shadow changed based on principal agent and surrounding environment are connected to questions on 'fixed standard'. ● In the 『Non-standard』 exhibition opening from 1st to 31st of August at Selo arts, Chungdamdong, a view of the world of artist who considers an interest on 'uncertainty of standard' deeply has revealed. ● The artist accidently discovers a piece of wood drifting towards Jeju ocean during his trip. The abandoned wood piece that cannot be presumed its original use affects concern of artist on 'an certainty of standard'. After that, the artist started to collect garbages made of wood material. At the moment when bent and crooked wood piece becomes to be a canvas which will reflect world of artist, the world of artist is suggested by deflecting once more. ● The work directly sculpted wood based on collected wood piece work, especially, is a part that reflects his own will which distorts fixed standard. The distorted structure, bent plane, and scraped wood surface distorts every standard and puts us in a test. ● The line and plane drawn based on the standard set by artist on the sculpture that does not let people knowing from where is the front part causes an optical illusion based on the viewpoint. As a factor to stimulate curiosity to find standard set by artist, it changes a viewpoint which makes his work look differently and makes viewers to experience uncertainty of standard. ● When looking at the consideration of sculpture who questions on fixed standard while hanging around his work, with unfixed standard, the world that cannot be seen starts to open. ■ Seloarts & C.
