'공간에 대한 끝없는 이행: 심리지리학적 추상 풍경화 (Endless Transition of Space: Psychogeographic Abstract Landscape)'로 정의하는 본인의 작품세계는 'Stillman'이라는 도시유령의 시선을 통해 바라본 도시와 상상력의 교차관계를 탐험한다. 작가에게 도시환경이란 모든 것들이 숨겨져 있고 아직 발견되지 않은, 미지의 현장이다. 본인은 'Stillman'을 추적하는 과정을 통해, 물리적 세계와 마주하는 동시에 비가시적 세계와 조우하고 거대한 초현실적 무대공간을 제시한다. 실재와 잠재적 세계를 넘나드는 이러한 이중적인 경험은 일상적 도시공간에 대한 새로운 상상력을 자극한다.

본인의 작품은 도시공간에서 상상력의 무한한 경계을 확장해 나아가며 도시인들의 습관화된 지각방식으로부터 벗어나도록 촉발시킨다. 본인은 도시의 거리에서 보여지는 다양한 기호들, 낯선 문자들, 그리고 건물의 유리창에 반사된 파편적 이미지들에 초점을 맞춘다. 이러한 요소들은 (심리적인) 방향 감각상실성, 공간성과 시간성의 급격한 전환 및 파편화된 감각적 경험들을 이끌어 내는 주요한 요소들로써 도시거주자들의 정체성 및 심리상태, 보이지 않는 물질의 현존, 사물세계와의 관계성에 대한 조사 및 연구를 위한 중요한 초석이 된다. ● 작가 본인은 물리적, 지리적, 역사적, 문화적 도시공간과 심리적 도시공간 간의 관계성에 대한 리서치를 바탕으로한 예술작품들을 제시한다. 열린 시· 공간으로서의 '현대 도시'를 독특한 방식으로 드러냄으로써 우리가 기존에 가지고 있었던 고정된 '장소'의 개념은 확장될 것이며, 이로 하여금 관람자는 물리적 도시공간 안에 내재된, 또 다른 모습의 도시에 대한 감각을 경험하게 된다. ■ 손경화

『UK/RAINE』 is the first ever open competition for all emerging artists from the UK and Ukraine who are between the ages of 18-35. The aim of the competition is to find and support the most imaginative and talented young artists who live and work in the UK or Ukraine, or born in either country. A shortlist of 30 artists (six from each category: painting, installation, new media (including video and photography), sculpture and street art) are exhibiting their work over one entire floor at the Saatchi Gallery in an exhibition running from 24th November 2015 - 3rd January 2016. ■ Saatchi Gallery

'Raw talent: Ten emerging artists from UK and Ukraine' ● Kyung Hwa Shon has lived and studied in Seoul, Chicago, Paris and London, where she is currently based. The experience of moving across the world has had significant influence on her installations with which she explores her relationship with each city and "how one adapts to unfamiliar, urban circumstances". The works are all abstract, and while the spectacular surfaces reveal the artist's interest in architecture, each vibrant composition is actually a result of various stages of research, from documenting personal reactions to specific spaces to recording city sounds. In recent works, she observes London through the eyes of a fictional city phantom named Stillman, to uncover that which is "buried, hidden and remaining to be discovered" in the urban fabric. ■ Liza Premiyak
