Light in Eternity, 영원 속에 빛

불빛은 인간의 '내재된 몽상적 세계'와 '잊혀 있던 기억'을 열어주는 매개체로 볼 수 있다. 불빛은 내재된 하나의 상상력이며 추억을 불러일으키는 근본적인 이미지의 원형이다. 그런데 같은 불빛이면서도 본질적으로 다른 것이 촛불이다. 몽상을 불러일으키는 이 세상 모든 사물 사이에서 촛불이 가장 커다란 영상(映像)요인 가운데 하나이며 우리에게 상상을 강요한다. ● 나의 작품 속에 나타나는 따뜻한 온기를 지닌 촛불과 사라져버린 추억을 되살리는 램프의 영상(映像)은 '빛의 공간'으로 담았다. 이러한 추억을 불러일으키는 빛의 공간과 초현실적 이미지들은 과거와 현재를 공존하게 하며 동시에 초월하는 '상상적 공간'으로 재현되고 있다. 나의 작품 속에 표현된 '빛의 공간'은 시공간을 초월하면서 어디에도 속하지 않는 멈춰있는 '영원(永遠) 속에 빛의 공간'이다. 또한 나는 추억을 불러일으키는 '시적인 빛의 공간'에 '작품 속에 또 다른 작품'을 그려 넣음으로써 작품의 공간 속에 '명화'가 가지고 있는 추억과 이야기를 보다 풍부하게 만들고 있다. ■ 이은채

Light can be considered an agency which opens up the 'innate dream-like world' and 'forgotten memories'. Light signifies natural imaginative power and original form of the fundamental image that evokes memories. Although candle light is a form of light, it's essentially different. Among all matters in the world which arouse daydreaming, the candle light is one of the greatest image which enforces imagination in human. ● In my work, the candle light and the lamp that revives lost memories create a 'space of light'. The surrealistic images and this space of light, which recalls memories, represent a transcendental 'imaginative space' while bringing the past and the present to co-exist. The 'space of light' in my work transcends time and space, and connotes a standstill 'space of light in eternity'. In addition, the 'famous paintings' in my painting are portrayed as 'a painting within painting' in such 'poetic space of light' that revives memories, and are thus endowed with a layer of depth in the element of memory and narrative. ■ YIEUNCHAE
