한낮의 촛불 Candles at Midday

나의 작업에서 나타난 '불의 기호'들인 '촛불'과 '램프' 그리고 불의 식물적 이미지들은 '불꽃의 몽상성' 통해 공감각적인 상상의 공간과 함께 '추억'으로 재현되고 있으며, 추억을 불러일으키는 몽상적 공간에 '명화'를 차용함으로써 수많은 추억을 떠올릴 수 있는 상황을 나타낸다. 이번 전시에 불의 몽상적 공간속에 차용 되어진 많은 명화들 중에 공재 윤두서의 '자화상'은 '한낮의 촛불'로 형상화 했다. '한낮의 촛불'은 해가 떠 있는 가운데 촛불이 켜져 있는 형상으로 촛불이 빛을 발할 수 없는 안타까운 상황을 나타낸다. '한낮의 촛불'에 그려진 명화, 공재 윤두서는 평생 관직에 나아가지 못했고 그가 낙향하던 45세 때 그려진 자화상이다. 많은 어려움 속에서 그려진 '자화상'은 그 당시 그의 심정과 고독한 모습을 보여주고 있으며, 삶에 지친 그는 48세로 세상을 떠나게 된다. 이러한 한낮의 촛불 속에 공재 윤두서의 '자화상'을 넣어 빛을 발하지 못한 촛불과 같이 고독하고 치열했던 삶의 한 순간을 재조명 하고자 한다. ■ 이은채

The 'symbols of fire' in my work, such as 'candles', 'lamps' and other plant-like images of fire, are represented as 'memory' and imaginary space of synesthesia through the 'visional qualities of fire'. Furthermore, flood of memories are resurrected by borrowing famous masterpieces in the memory-reviving visional space. Among many celebrated paintings displayed in the visional space decorated with symbols of fire, 'self-portrait' of Gongjae, Yoon Dooseo has been embodied into 'candles at midday'. The 'candles at midday', an image of candlelight under the sun of daytime, represents a miserable situation that candles cannot emit a glow. Gongjae, Yoon Dooseo who couldn't hold a state position for his entire life drawn 'candles at midday' when he retired into a country at 45-year-old. He passed away at 48 and this 'self-portrait' drawn when he was placed in a difficult situation shows his solitary image. By placing Gongjae, Yoon Dooseo's 'self-portrait' in the 'candles at midday', his lonesome and fierce life such as candles that couldn't shine will be reviewed. ■ YIEUNCHAE
