인연과 관계의 망을 짜다 ● 얽히고 맺히고 풀리고 흐르는 시간, 한국화의 장르적 특수성은 아무래도 종이와 먹으로 나타난 재료에서 찾아질 수가 있을 것이다. 작업에 있어 재료는 색색의 조각 천과 실을 이용한 박음질로 대체된다. 그러므로 작가의 작업은 재료를 다변화한 것이면서 한국화의 표현 영역을 확장한 경우로 볼 수가 있겠다. 재료와 방법은 같이 간다. 재료와 방법이 별개일 수가 없다. 재료와 방법이 달라진 만큼 그 표면 질감이며 분위기도 사뭇 다르다.

작가는 장지에 묽은 안료를 덧발라 투명하면서도 은근한 분위기의 바탕화면을 조성한다. 그리고 가녀린 색실을 이용해 흐르는 듯 유기적인 곡선을 박음질하는데, 분방한 드로잉을 연상시킨다. 그리고 화면 곳곳에 색색의 조각 천을 박음질해 고정시키는데, 바탕화면의 은근한 색조와 다양한 색실을 이용한 드로잉 그리고 조각 천의 색면이 마치 한 몸이듯 어우러져 담담한 깊이감을 자아낸다. 시각적이면서 촉각적인, 시각과 촉각의 경계를 넘나들면서 아우르는 공감각으로 표현영역을 확장하고 심화한다.

여기서 색면은 삶의 편린을 상징하고, 색면과 색면을 이어주는 가녀린 실선은 삶의 연속성을 암시한다. 별개의 존재와 존재가 어렵사리 만나지는 인연의 계기를 상징하는 경우로 볼 수도 있겠다. 비록 드러나 보이는 형상은 추상이지만, 그러나 그 추상은 이처럼 삶을 상징하고 존재를 암시하는 상징추상이다. 추상으로 드러난 형상 속에 우주를 담아낸 전통적인 조각보와 같은 이치로 보면 되겠다. 그렇게 작가는 실선처럼 흐르는 무구한 시간 속에 착종된 존재의 이치를 그려내고 있었다. ■ 고충환

Weaving the network of the connection and the relations ● Getting tangled, formed, released and flowing time, unique characteristics of traditional Korean Painting in genre are derived from the material represented by paper and ink. The material in painting is substituted by back-stitch using a piece of cloth in various colors and thread and thus the author's work is considered extended territory of expression in Korean painting while diversifying the material. Material and skill go together. Material and skill shall not be separated. Surface texture and mood vary as much as the changes to the material and skill. ● Ro Shin-Kyoung creates transparent and subtle background by coating diluted pigment on thick Korean paper. Then she sews smooth curve using thin colored threads. Her drawing reminds me of a wild drawing. She fixes colorful pieces of cloth by sewing them on various places of screen. The subtle tone of background, drawing made by colorful threads and colored planes made of cloth pieces are harmonized to create sense of deep calm. Her drawings are for both visual pleasure and tactile pleasure. They expand and deepen the expression domain by synesthesia while crossing the boundary between visual sense and tactile sense. ● Where, the color refers to the part of the life and a slender line linking the colors implicates the continuity of the life. It may be considered the moment of the connection between the existences in separate. Though it looks abstract, which is however symbolic abstract representing the life and suggesting the existence. In the shape expressed abstractedly, it's like the traditional patchwork containing the universe. The author draws the reason of the entangled existence in innocent time flowing likes the slender line. ■ KHOCHUNGHWAN
