붉은정원 Red Garden

붉은 정원은 온실을 구성하고 있는 철골 구조물을 사라지게 하고 그 자리에 울타리에서 벗어난 동물원의 동물들을 배치하여 현대사회의 구속에서 벗어나고자 하는 소망을 표현한 작가의 심리적 공간이다. 화면의 주된 색감인 주묵(朱墨)의 붉은색은 식물원에서 내뿜는 열기와 기운 그리고 자유로움에 대한 강렬한 열망을 상징적으로 표현한 것이다. 붉은 정원 작품은 바쁜 일상 속에서 삶의 여유로움을 갖지 못하고 살아가는 현대 도시인들에게 안식과 아울러 자유로움을 꿈꿀 수 있는 회화공간이 되고자 한다. ■ 이용석

The nature that Lee, Yong-Suk paints is not the nature as it is. It is a picturesque and artificial man-made space that Lee, Yong-Suk as a painter added his own interpretation through the use of vermilion ink. But the nature that Lee introduces on the screen is not a space that is completely separated from human beings or a space that has no life. It is an organic space of the future that permits human analogy and intervention where we can take a peek at ourselves probably taking short breaths in there. His nature is the nature of his era that makes us look at ourselves as human beings who live as strangers in an urban environment that is too heated up and too familiar. ■ Park, Tcheon-nahm
