출발은 '기하학'이다. 공간에서 점들을 배열하고, 선과 면을 엮어서 다시 새로운 공간을 창조해낸다. 그러한 일련의 과정들은 박제되지 않고 마치 세포분열을 하듯 생명력을 가진 채 움직이기 시작한다. 그 언어들의 몸짓에 강렬하게 이끌려 그것을 표출할 수 있는 가능성을 모색하고자 작품을 제작하였다. 수평-수직선을 비례와 분할에 따라 사선-곡선을 함께 사용하였는데 이러한 작업은 미리 결정된 조건 없이 오로지 작가의 독특한 감각과 직관만을 사용하여 표현됨에 따라, 초기에는 복잡한 형태의 기하학과 다양한 오브제들을 사용하였음을 초기작품을 통해 알 수 있다. 이것은 곧 그의 내면을 조형언어를 사용하여 단 하나도 감추지 않고 여과 없이 보여주고 있는 것이다. 이렇게 만들어진 기하학적 형태를 다시 자유롭게 해체, 분리, 그리고 종합하여 단순성에 기초를 둔 조화로운 구조를 유도한다.

평면적 구조를 수직․수평의 선을 통해 엄격하고도 절제된 모습으로 다룬다. 화면을 분할하는 그리드는 선으로부터 면을 그리고 면으로부터 공간의 속성을 낱낱이 밝히며 화면에 얽힌 차원을 총괄적으로 제시한다. 하지만 생명력을 가지고 있는 것은 언제나 진화하게 마련이다. 작가는 사물이 가지고 있는 본질적인 형태를 모두 조형언어로 변환하여 그 형태를 다시 자유롭게 해체, 분리, 그리고 종합하여 단순성에 기초를 둔 조화로운 구조로 유도한다. complexity에서 simpleness로 가는 것은 불필요한 모든 것들을 외부로 버리고 완벽한 세계를 갈망하는 욕구이기도 하다. 색-놀다 색_날다 에서 그 사실이 명백하게 드러난다. 이미 모든 것이 절제된 상태에서 유희하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 작가는 더 이상 그 언어들을 암호로써 캔버스(갇힌 세계)에 감춰둘 이유가 없으므로 타인과 공유하기 위하여 현실로 내보내려 한다. 작품 하나하나를 감상하는 것은 흡사 미니멀하고 세련된 시각적 구성물을 무심하게 즐기는 것처럼 여겨질 수 있다. 그것은 편안하고 잘 알려진 추상적 감상을 제공할 것이다. 그러나 좀 더 유심히 주의를 기울인다면, 그의 작품들은 좀 더 예외적인 추상성의 경험으로 이어지는 통로가 될 수 있다. 이제 우리가 해야 할 것은 극대화된 조형 언어를 받아들이고 그 언어들과 같이 노래하기 위하여, 잠시나마 나의 현실을 잊어버리는 일일 것이다. ■ 이슬기

Geometric form is abstraction of non-objective and non-representational elements of the object, and its simplification is a way to express the fundamental nature and energy of the object. I studied the background on how the geometric form was employed as a new formative element, its extensity, and the symbolic way of depiction. ● The purpose of this study is to communicate in a formative language through geometric abstraction and plastic arts. I hope this study metaphors the contemporary language through the transformation of shapes and their combination with symbolic images, so that their meanings expand to the unlimited realm and interact among others. I am interested in the process of simplifying original forms of objects and express it with moderate colors and forms. My intension is to interpret and explore various geometric forms of shapes and composition of liberal lines in a psychological and a formative way. It shows the directions of realizing the true meaning in our cognizance, building the relationship with others in the Order of Nature, and tending to become valuable objects. With the importance of compositional frame and its exploration of pictorial spaces, I explore my perception of the pictorial spaces through geometric elements and experiment internal reality in a relationship with geometric forms and formative shapes. All in all, I tried to communicate human relations in formative language through geometric abstraction and pure formation in my paintings. ● Through examining the theoretical base of how geometric form was introduced and its symbolic meanings, I will explore the relations with my work. It will be an opportunity to investigate and to prospect the direction of the work as an artist.
