나의 작업은 전투기와 자동차이다. 종이로 만들어진 작품은 사물의 껍데기를 생각하며 작업하였다. 마치 뱀이 벗어 놓고 간 허물과 같은, 그것은 또 다른 변화를 암시하고 있어 그 껍질만으로도 또 다른 공포를 주기도 한다. 그렇듯 전투기와 자동차는 그 껍데기/허물들을 전시장에 벗어 놓고,우리 주변 어딘가로 그 실체를 숨기고, 고도의 과학 기술력으로 변신을 꾀하고 있는 것이다. 이렇듯 발전한 과학과 사회는 한 손에 세계를 바라 볼 수 있는 스마트한 현실을 만들었으나 그 작은 화면 이외의 세상은 등한시 하게 만들었다. 난 이번 작업을 통하여 관객이 그 실체들에게 조금 더 관심을 가져 주었으면 하는 바람이다. 인류는 같은 꿈을 꾸며, 서로 다른 형상을 바라보고 있다. ■ 서해근

Major materials for my recent works are fighter planes and automobiles. They are made of papers and I created them thinking of the skins of things. Like a snake's skin, the works imply another change and give us another fright. The planes and the autos take their skins off on the floor of the exhibition hall, hide their substances under our surrounding, and try to transform themselves by using high scientific technology. The developed science and society make us smart and see the world through a small monitor, but also neglect the world without it. I hope my works give a chance to see the real. Human beings are dreaming the same dream and looking at each other's form. ■ Seo Hae-geun
