Human by Hideholic ● Human by Hideholic 은 캔버스의 표면을 덮으며 무한히 증식하는 이미지를 통해 현대인의 '위장된 삶'의 모습을 구현한다. 삶 속에서 당면하는 상황에 따라 태도가 변하는 인간의 모습처럼, 본질적인 현대인의 문제, 상처들을 철저히 감추는 것에 익숙해진 사람들에 대한 이야기이다. 구체적인 대상 속에서 변이를 일으키며 생성된 이미지들이 대상간의 관계를 얽히게 하거나 위장된 이미지로 마주하여 서로를 기만하는 장면을 연출한다. 화면 속의 이미지들은 대상의 본질에 집중할 수 없도록 외양에만 치중하여 내면의 가치를 격상시키려고 하는 의도가 숨어있다. 또한 그 의도는 매우 위선적인 것으로 상대방에게 흠으로 작용할 약점을 감추기 위한 것이다. 대상위에 번진 '이미지'들은 그러한 흠을 감추기 위해 위장한 '가면'이 되기도 하고, 마주하는 대상으로 뻗어 나아가 관계망을 '교란'시키며, 동시에 상대방이 지니고 있는 것을 탐하여 '흡수'하는 역할들을 수행한다.

작가는 화면위에 그 구체적인 대상 즉 사람들에 대한 이야기를 감추기 위해 수많은 패턴들로 뒤덮는다. 그러나 이미지들로 뒤덮는 행위가 반복될수록 사람들에 대한 이야기에 빠지는 것이 아닌 뒤덮는 행위에 종속되는 자신을 발견하게 된다. 메시지를 전달하려고 시작한 그리기는 대상의 구체화를 넘어서 대상을 은닉하게 되고, 감추는 행위 자체에 빠지게 된다. 이렇게 번져나가는 이미지들은 자동기술법으로 그려진 것과 다름이 없다. 의도된 이야기와 의도되지 않은 이미지의 만남은 작가를 자신이 설정한 '놀이' 속에 빠져들게 한다.

작품 속에서 충분히 유희한 작가는 이제 관객에게 일종의 '놀이'를 제안한다. 작가는 미리 숨겨둔 '보물찾기'에서 이미지 속에 숨겨둔 메시지가 담긴 '쪽지'를 준비해두고, 관객은 작가가 숨겨둔 '쪽지'를 찾기 위해 끊임없는 시선의 숨바꼭질을 시작한다. 화면 속의 미로를 헤매는 관객은 이내 찾은 순간 놓치는 '쪽지'들로 인해 탈력감을 맛보지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 시선이 멈출 수 없는 이유는 작가가 건설한 트릭의 세계가 '쪽지'를 찾는 것을 잊을 만큼 매혹적이기 때문이다. 끊임없는 시선의 탐닉 끝에 서서히 드러나는 '쪽지'의 실체는 작가의 메시지를 전한다. ● '관객'들은 이미지를 전면에 앞세우고 한걸음 물러서 숨어있는 '사람'들을 발견하게 된다. ■ 최유희

Human by Hideholic ● The Human by Hideholic implements an image of the disguised life of the modern man through a boundlessly expanding image that covers the canvas. It is a story about people who have become accustomed to hiding away the fundamental problems or wounds of the modern age, which in appearance, reflects the different attitudes that they hold toward various situations in life. ● The images that have been created through transformation inside a specific subject, entangles the relationship between the subjects or creates a scene of deception between opposing disguised images. In order to promote the internal values, the images inside the screen have a hidden intention of hindering the concentration on the essence of the subject by means of focusing on the outward appearance. Also, this intention is a very hypocritical one, which is to conceal the weaknesses that can be considered flaws to someone else. The images that have been spread over the subject do not only act as a mask for disguise, but also disturbs the relationship between the subjects that oppose each other, and at the same time takes on a role of absorbing the things that the opponent possesses. ● The painter covers the screen with numerous patterns in order to hide the specific subject, i.e., the story of people. However, as the act of covering the canvas with images continues, the depth of the story is not deepened, but rather, the painter discovers herself subordinated by the act of covering. The painting, which began in order to convey a message, is now degenerated into an act of concealing and hiding of the subject. The images that are spread across the screen are indistinguishable from those generated through auto-depiction. The confrontation of the intended story and un-intended image makes the painter descend into a play that she herself has plotted. ● The painter, who has already fooled around in the art, now suggests a sort of play to the audience. Through a treasure hunt, the painter prepares a hidden note inside the image - enclosed with a message - and the "audience" begins an endless game of visual hide-and-seek to find that note. Although the audience - wandering through the maze - may find it enervating when the notes that they once thought found soon slips away from them, they nevertheless cannot stop their search because the world of trickery that the painter has set-up is captivating enough to make the audience forget that this actually is a search for a note. The substance of the note is steadily revealed through the endless visual indulgence, and shows the message that the painter has intended to convey. The audience will discover hidden people holding up an image in front of them and hiding a step behind it. ■ CHOIYUHEE
