잃어버린 풍경

트렁크갤러리는 2011년 1월부터 『한국 모더니즘사진가 시리즈』 그 첫번째를 주명덕의 『잃어버린 풍경』으로 출발하려 합니다. 이 『한국 모더니즘사진가 시리즈』 기획의지는 그간 트렁크갤러리가 Contemporary Photo Art work만으로 진행해 왔었다면, 또 다른 맥락의 기획임무로 생각하는 작업입니다. 곧 2011년부터 우리나라 모더니즘사진가들의 작품을 모셔내는 '트렁크갤러리가 해야 할 일' 그 임무수행입니다. 잘해 내게 될지 모르나 최선을 다해 내려합니다. 1년에 한 분만을 초대하여 우리의 사진사를 이끌어 내어오신 분에 대한 '새롭게 기억하기'가 되기 원해서 입니다. 많은 관심과 협조 부탁드립니다. ■ 박영숙

잃어버린 風景 ● ...이것은 1981년 겨울, 내가 즐겨 찾던 雪嶽山에서 우연히 찍은 사진 한 장으로부터 시작되었다. 그 후 십여 년 이라는 세월이 지나서야 겨우 지금과 같은 하나의 시각을 갖게 되었다. 참으로 내 감각이 무딘 탓이었을까, 아니면 깨닫지 못한 어리석음 탓 이었을까. 30대 초반까지 나의 사진은 내가 속해있는 사회가 보다 밝은 곳이 되는데 기여하려고 노력했었다. 그 후 40대까지, 지금도 그 작업을 계속하고 있지만 나의 조국이 갖고 있던 아름다운 자연환경과 전통, 사람들이 지니고 있는 소박한 마음을 내 사진을 통해하여 이 모든 것을 잃어버린 세대들에게 남겨보려는 작업을 계속 해 왔다. 그러나 이러한 작업도 지금 와서 돌이켜 보면 옛 것에 대한 지나친 향수일 것이다. 다시 지금의 풍경사진을 이야기 하여 보자. 나의 풍경사진들은 나의 감정세계를 표현한 것이다. 거듭 말 하지만 논리 정연하게 설명 하다거나 미화 시킬 수 없다. 이 사진을 보는 많은 사람들 에게 사진에 매료되어 내가 느낀 것 그 이상으로 나의 사진 속으로 깊이깊이 빠져 들어가기를 기대 한다. 洞山스님은 莊子의 말을 인용하여 "뜻을 얻으면 말을 잊어버리는 것이다." 하였다. 내 사진에 대한 견해도 이 말로 대신 할 수 있었으면 하는 어리석은 생각을 갖게 되었다. In January 2011, the Trunk gallery presents 'Lost landscape' by Joo, Myung-Duck which will be the opener for Korean modernist photographer series. In comparison to the contemporary photo art works that the Trunk gallery has contributed, the Korean modernist photographer series is in another context that the gallery finds one of its own assignments. Once in a year, the Trunk gallery will devote itself to revive the symbolic artist's works that have been a contribution leading the history of modern photography in Korea. Exhibiting the works of modernist photographers of Korea will be an opportunity to fulfill the purpose of the gallery’s establishment. ■ Youngsook Park   Lost Landscape Series – Vintage Print ● These "visions" seem to trace back to the winter of 1981, to a single photograph I chanced to shoot in the Snow Peaks where I often went hiking. Only now, over ten years later, have I attained an angle on it all. Due perhaps to exceeding insensitivity on my part, it has taken me longer to reach this point than might have others. Up until my early thirties I endeavored by means of my photographic activities to improve, in some small way, the society to which I belong. Now that I am in my forties, I still continue with these efforts, but even more, my commitment through my photography is to pass on to younger generations a plain, honest appreciation of Korea's natural beauty and traditions, much of which they are losing. I am so compelled by my own strong longing for the good, old things. Having passed through these stages in my landscape photographs, I feel I have at least finally achieved expression of the emotional realm that exists within me. And for this very reason, I repeat, I am unable either to offer rationally ordered explanations or to set forth any aesthetic clarification. I can only hope that all of you who look at these photographs of mine might see deeper into them than even myself. As quotes Master Dongshan from Chuangtzi: "Gaining insight, one forgets words."
