근작에 관해 ● 최근 만들어지는 동물형상은 오랜 동안 미술의 소재로 흔히 등장하던 동물조각의 개념과 크게 다르지 않다.

다른 점을 든다면 나는 전통적인 방식에 의해 만들어진 결과물을 가지고 바다, 도시, 골목 등에 설치하여 특정한 장소가 작품과 결합 했을 때 얻어지는 상황을 다시 사진으로 기록하여 작품과 외부환경을 결합한다. 이러한 정보를 디지털이미지로 기록하여 전시공간 (웹사이트, 스티커, 포스터, 갤러리 등)으로 다시 이동하고 작업이 이동한 경로를 관객에게 제시한다. 관객은 전시장에서 조각을 촉감각적으로 체험하며 디지털이미지의 시각정보를 관람하고 작품이 전시장으로 옮겨지기까지의 이동을 상상하며 이동하는 까닭에 의미를 찾으려 할 것이다.

나에게 있어 동물형상은 본질적으로 그것들이 가진 뼈와 근육을 기초로 한 덩어리를 재현하면서 본인 스스로 동화되며 동물과 마찬가지로 이동하는 정서를 갖는 것에 재미를 갖고 있다. ■ 조영철

About recent works ● A shape of an animal being made recently has not huge difference from the statue of an animal which has been popular as a subject in art. However, setting up the results from the traditional way in different places such as the sea, a city, streets and so on makes difference. Furthermore, this kind of work is taken as a photograph with circumstances surround it and is transformed to digital image, finally is taken to exhibition. A museum-goers(visitor) would try to find out the reason why it has transformed experiencing a material statue by a feeling sight. Basically a shape of an animal stands for their skeletal structure and muscles but a worker try to feel same being transformed. This is an interesting factor I've found. ■ CHOYOUNGCHUL
