의식 저편의 기억과 근원에 대한 그리움은 일상의 감동과 만나 나의 화면을 채우고 사라진다. 해가 지는 일몰의 바다. 눈부신 달, 구름 속에 숨겨진 무지개의 미소, 사랑하는 사람과의 만남. 내가 보고 느끼는 그 순간, 그 순간을 빛나게 해주는 것은 그것 가운데 느끼는 영원성, 그곳에 보이지 않는 메시지가 있기 때문이다. 이번 전시의 테마인 '영원한 이야기'이다. ● 작업의 모티브와 주제가 자연이라는 창조 근원, 이치와 원리가 생성 변화 하는 것 이것은 영속적 속성을 지닌 "자연"의 모습에서 발견하는 것이다. 또한 그것이 주는 메시지는 절대성의 존재, 신에 대한 물음이자 답이라는 개인적인 철학을 담고 있기도 하다. ● 이것은 자연에 대한 서양과 동양의 가치관이 그에 대한 해석의 차이가 있음에도 불구하고 동서고금을 막론한 예술가들의 중요 소재 이유이기도 하다.

이러한 자연과의 교감은 나의 작업에서도 시기에 따라 표현방법과 재료를 달리할 뿐 여러 형태로 그려지고 발전되었다. ● 한국에서 이러한 자연의 생명력 있는 모습을 종이와 먹으로 담아내려는 주관적 사생에 몰두하였다면 작업의 방향은 '표현' 한다는 것과 드로잉이라는 화두를 가지고 독일에서 공부를 시작할 수 있었고 그런 나의 검은 선 -드로잉- 은 유리라는 재료를 통해 느꼈던 색이라는 거대한 감수성과 만난 그림에 색이 입혀지기 시작했다.

독일에서의 작업은 대부분 자연의 형상과 그리움에서 출발한 많은 기억의 사물들이 (새, 꽃, 우산, 말 풍선 등) 드로잉의 자유로운 선이 겹겹이 쌓이고 지워지며 새로운 레이어를 만들어 하나의 기호화된 상징들이 조합되어 형상을 만들어낸다. 이러한 방법적 특성으로 이번 전시는 보다 자연의 근원에서 느낀 메시지와 하늘과 태양, 구름 바다, 무지개 등 친숙한 소재들로 일상과 여행에서 보았던 자연 가운데 메시지가 상징화되어 작품의 주된 소재가 되고 있다. ● 기억과 사물, 그리움과 자연, 창조주와 나. 그리고 그 관계 들, 가고자 하는 그 인생 길에 대한 성찰과 물음은 나의 작업에 영원한 테마이자 어쩌면 우리 인생이 가지고 가야 할 모든 사람들의 물음일 것이다.

나의 바램은 그렇게 결과 지어진 아름다움이 표면으로 연결되고 그리고 그것의 깊이를 만들어 내는 것이다. 그러한 작업을 통해 여러 감흥과 기억이 다시 만나고 그 질문은 다시 그림을 통해 나에게 답을 하는 과정의 결과물이라 할 수 있을 것이다. ● 나는 이렇게 자연의 강한 인상과 보이지 않는 그 속의 메시지와의 대화가 기호화되고 상징화된 어떤 표정으로 그림에 끊임없이 암시되어 개인적인 사유의 풍경화가 만들어지길 바란다. ■ 이연주

The memory beyond my conciousness and yearning for the origin meet the impression in daily life, fill my canvas and vanish. The sea at sunset, the dazzling moon, the rainbow's smile hidden in the clouds, randezvous with a beloved one. The moment that I see and feel them, the reason that the moment shines is because there are eternity and messages in them. ● The theme of this exhibition is "the eternal story". This can be found in the figure of "nature", which has perpetual attribute that the origin of creation, reason and principle generate and change. The message it conveys contains my personal philosophy of existence of absolutness, questions about God and the answer to them. Every manner of image in nature was wordless lessons and messages to me which put me in awe of the circulation of life and the fundamental being. ● This is the reason why nature has been an important subject matter for artists in all ages and countries, despite the difference between the eastern and the western value in interpreting it. Sharing feelings with nature has been the basis of my work as well, only using different methods of expression and materials according to the time. ● In the past, I focused on objective sketching to represent the life force of nature with paper and ink, but the later work was done with more subjective methods of work and drawing. The black lines drawing in the works meet the immense sensibility of color that I felf through the glass material, and began color the painting. ● In this exhibition, the things that are familiar to us in nature like the sky, the sun, clouds, the sea, rainbows we have seen in everyday life or during a trip, are used and their messages become symbolized to constitute the main subject matter of my works. The drawing of various images starting from the image of nature and yearning for it become unrestricted lines. The lines are laid one upon another, erased again to create new layers, and the layers make up symbols and creat figure. ● Memory and objects, yearning and nature, the creator and I, the relationships, and self reflection and questioning the way of life are the everlasting themes of my work. ● And I am working on the landscape paintings of my personal specualtion as the result of self questioning and answering process, through awareness of the absolute being I encounter during my work. ■ LENA LEE
