MOON JAR VARIATION

단순하면서도 고요한 순백의 달항아리를 주제로 작품 활동을 해 오고 있는 김유선 작가의 세 번째 개인전 『MOON JAR VARIATION / 달항아리 변주』 전시가 2025년 2월 10일부터 3월 16일까지 예술의 전당 한가람디자인미술관 제 3전시실에서 개최된다.

A moon jar of quiet simplicity drifts in fluid flows. More than a vessel, the white porcelain moon jar, an emblem of Korea's distinct aesthetic tradition, embodies the passage of time, the imprints of lives lived, and a sense of quiet transcendence. It is an object that bridges past and present, inviting a spiritual dialogue with the world and inspiring artistic contemplation. In its restrained curves and luminous white surface, we glimpse a certain philosophical contemplation that echoes the refined sensibility of Korean aesthetics. ● The artist, Kim You Sun, does not seek to introduce or reinterpret the traditional aesthetics of the moon jar. Rather, he projects questions about essence, memory, and the unseen recesses of the mind. Through the photographic act of expressing his mind, he projects onto the jar a quiet yet ceaselessly shifting inner world, one that has long remained veiled within his consciousness. The effect is that his work exists at the intersection of past and present, where emotions, lived experiences, and subconscious imagery converge. Crafted through the interplay of light, camera obscura, and the artist's own hand, this moon jar composition invites us as people anchored in the tangible world to engage with unseen dimensions, where thought and imagination unfold in limitless variation. ● Kim You Sun's moon jar serves as a philosophical inquiry into the nature of the world and the human condition. The act of creation is, inevitably, to arrive at a deeper understanding of the self. The visualized illusions that emerge from his consciousness are both reflections of an inner world and a deliberate act of self awareness an assertion of existence as an independent being. Through this process, his work opens a space to reflect on what it means to exist.
