『I'll Be Your Mirror』전시는 여성 예술가들이 서로의 거울이 되어 함께 성장하고 공감하는 과정을 조명하는 예술적 실천의 시작입니다. 우연히 낸 골딘의 『All the Beauty and the Bloodshed』(모든 아름다움과 유혈사태) 트레일러를 보면서, 사진을 처음 시작했을 때 낸 골딘을 비롯해 신디 셔먼, 티나 바니, 샐리 만, 다이안 아버스, 사라 문 등 배웠던 여성 작가들을 떠올리게 되었는데 비록 많지는 않았지만 그들의 존재는 큰 힘이 되었던 기억났습니다. 『I'll Be Your Mirror』는 여성 예술가들이 경력 단절과 사회적 도전 속에서도 어떻게 동료성과 연대의 힘으로 나아갈 수 있는지를 탐구하고, 전시의 부제 "때문이 아닌 이라서"에서 드러나듯, 특정 이유나 명분이 아닌 존재 그 자체로 서로에게 힘이 된다는 메시지를 담고 있습니다. 특히 한국 사회에서 여성으로 살아가는 일은 여전히 다양한 제약과 관습, 기대를 수반하며, 이러한 환경에서 예술가로서의 지속 가능한 작업을 이어가는 일은 더욱 큰 의미를 가집니다. 이런 맥락에서 이 전시는 한국에서 작업하는 여성 예술가들이 직면하는 다양한 사회적 이슈와 도전을 함께 다루고 있다는 점에서 특별합니다. 이들은 자신들의 작업을 통해 성평등, 가사와 돌봄 노동, 사회적 편견 등 다양한 이슈를 다루며, 그 안에서 연대와 공감의 중요성을 예술로 풀어냅니다. ● 구성연, 금혜원, 김옥선, 김수강, 김지윤, 김효연, 난다, 안옥현, 윤정미, 이고은, 이예은, 이선민, 임안나 작가는 각자의 예술적 언어를 통해 서로의 경험을 나누며 예술적 교류의 의미를 새롭게 정의하고 있으며 나아가 단순히 여성작가들만 다뤄서 한가지 성에 대한 이야기라는 사고에 갇히지 않고, 이 전시가 궁극적으로 다루고자 하는 것은 여성 예술가들의 이야기를 넘어, 한 개인이 현대 사회를 살아가며 마주하는 다양한 문제들에 대한 성찰이기도 합니다. 경계와 틀을 넘어서, 인간으로서의 존재와 그로 인한 연대의 의미를 탐구하며, 모두가 서로의 거울이 될 수 있는 가능성을 제시할 것입니다. ■ 배진희

구성연 ● 1970년 여수에서 태어났다. 동국대 인도철학과와 서울예전 사진과 졸업. 2000년에 나비시리즈로 첫 개인전을 했다. 그 후 유리, 화분, 모래, 팝콘, 사탕, 설탕 시리즈등의 작업을 발표했다. 2024년에 「사라지지 않으니까」라는 제목으로 플라스틱 쓰레기에 관한 작품으로 개인전을 했다. 현재 서울에서 전업작가로 살아가고 있다.

금혜원 ● 금혜원의 작업은 오늘날의 삶을 구성하는 환경, 사회, 역사에 대한 관심을 바탕으로 한다. 주요 작품으로는 급속하게 변화하는 도시 주거 환경을 소재로 한 「Blue Territory」, 익숙한 일상에 가려진 도시의 이면을 드러내는 「Urban Depth」, 반려동물 장례문화를 조명한 「Cloud Shadow Spirit」 등의 사진 시리즈가 있으며, 가족사를 중심으로 개인의 기억과 공공의 역사를 연결하는 프로젝트 「섬호광」이 있다. 아트스페이스 풀(2018), 아트선재센터(2014), 일민미술관(2011) 등지에서 7회의 개인전과 국립현대미술관(2024), 관두미술관(2022), 서울시립미술관(2019), 대구사진비엔날레(2018), 평창비엔날레(2017) 등 다수의 그룹전에 참여했다. 2013년 12회 다음작가상을 수상하였고, 국립현대미술관, 경기도미술관, 서울시립미술관, 부산현대미술관 등에 작품이 소장되어 있다.

김수강 ● 김수강은 서울대학교 미술대학에서 회화를, 뉴욕의 프랫 인스티튜트 대학원에서 사진을 전공했다. 23회의 개인전을 열었고 여러 번의 단체전에 참여했다. 일상에서 자신의 주변에 있는 사물의 표정을 세심하게 일고 들여다보는 일을 검 프린트 기법을 통하여 보여주고 있다. 김옥선 ● 김옥선(1967년생)은 여성, 국제결혼 커플, 제주에 거주하는 이방인들의 모습을 사진에 담아왔다. 그의 사진은 중심이 아닌 주변을 돌아보는 시선, 대상으로 향한 시선을 가지며, 미묘한 상황 포착과 절제, 특유의 디테일들을 특징으로 한다. 이 사진들이 발산하는 혼성의 세계는 관객으로 하여금 시선과 감각을 재구성하고 혼성의 삶과 일상을 수용하는 열린 시야를 획득하게 한다. 국립현대미술관, 리움미술관, 서울시립미술관, 아뜰리에 에르메스, 성곡미술관 등 국내 미술관과 PS1/MOMA를 비롯하여 첼시, 휴스턴, 산타바바라 미술관, 도쿄도 사진미술관, 대만, 홍콩, 알마티, 부에노스아이레스, 산티아고 등의 미술관에서 전시하였다. 일우사진상, 동강국제사진상, 다음작가상과 세코사진상을 수상하였다.

김지윤 ● 김지윤은 현재 홍콩에 거주하며 사진&비디오 작업을 하고 있다. 작가는 본국을 떠나 국제결혼을 통해서 아이들을 출산하고 양육하면서 작가 자신 뿐 아니라 가족안에서 정체성은 큰 화두가 되었고, 공원, 놀이터, 혹은 아이들 학교에서 국제 결혼으로 맺어진 가족들을 만나면서, 인종이 섞인 가족배경이 한 개인의 정체성 형성에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 궁금했다. 인종이 섞이고, 국경의 경계가 흐려지고, 정치, 경제, 문화 이유로, 유동적으로 이민자들의 수가 늘어나는 가운데 이들은 어떻게 타자들과 공생하는 관계속에서 자신을 누구라 정의하는지 집중해서 탐색하는 중이다. 중앙대 사진학과, 뉴욕대학원 사진&비디오를 수학하였으며, 주요 전시로는 국내에서는 서울시립미술관, 토탈 뮤지엄을 비롯하여 해외에서는 로위아트 갤러리(뉴욕), 덤보 아트 페스티발(브루클린), 루미에르 갤러리(마카티), 솔루나 갤러리(홍콩) 등이 있다. 24/25 MH Talent Portfolio에서 선정되어서, 현재 책 출판을 준비중에 있다.

김효연 ● 김효연은 감추어지거나 망각된 역사적 사건, 환경적, 정치적 장소가 개인과 집단의 삶에 가져오는변화를 연구하며 리서치를 바탕으로 사진과 영상매체, 아카이브를 활용하여 다학제적 방법론을 통한 서사학(narratology)을 구축하는 작업을 지속하고 있다. 주요 작업으로는 핵전쟁과 한국인 원폭피해자 1-4세대를 조망한 『감각이상』 프로젝트와 환경위기, 전쟁, 자본주의 등으로 인한 '멸종'에 대비하는 시설과 인물을 연구한 『끝의 종』 프로젝트가 있다. 개인전 『감각이상感覺異常』 (KT&G 상상마당 갤러리, 2021) 외 부산현대미술관, 서울시립북서울미술관, 휴스턴 포토페스트 비엔날레 등 다수의 기획전과 국제 영화제에 참여하였다.

난다 ● 서울에서 출생, 2020년 제주로 이주하여 작업하고 있다. 대표작으로 한국의 근대화 과정에서 형성된 현대인을 재해석한 「모던 걸, 경성 순례기」(2008), 이데올로기의 선전선동과 관광상품으로 기능하는 DMZ를 재조명한 「Fuga」(2010), 소비문화를 연극적 장치를 통해 비판적으로 살피는 작업「The Day」(2011-2012), 사물화된 인간에 대한 작업 「사물의 자세」(2015) 등이 있다. 덕성여자대학교 산업미술학과 염직디자인전공(B.F.A., 1993)과 상명대학교 문화예술대학원 디지털이미지학과 비주얼아트 전공(M.F.A., 2009)을 졸업했다.

안옥현 ● 안옥현은 사진과 비디오 작가이다. 홍대 산미대학원에서 사진디자인을 뉴욕 SVA대학원에서 사진과 비디오를 전공했다. 안옥현은 서로 이질적인 전형들 사이를 미묘하게 떠돌면서 불편하고 불확실한 감정들을 표면으로 이끌어내는 작업을 하고 있다. 서울, 뉴욕, 스톡홀름 등지에서 「여자는 남자를 남자는 여자를 서로 신성함으로 이끈다」,「사랑에는 이름이 없다」, 「에베레스트 정상에서 본 세상」, 「호모 센티멘털리스」 등 12차례의 개인전과 , 2018년 광주 비엔날레 「상상된 경계들」등 다수의 그룹전에 참여했다. 쌈지 레지던시(서울), ISCP (International Studio and Curatorial Program, 뉴욕), AIM ( Bronx Museum, 뉴욕) 레지던시에 참가했고 사진비평상을 수상한바 있다. 서울시립미술관, 부산현대미술관, 대전시립미술관등에 작품이 소장되었다.

윤정미 ● 서울대학교 미술대학교에서 서양화과를 졸업하고, 홍익대학교에서 사진을, 미국 뉴욕의 스쿨 오브 비주얼 아트에서 Photography, Video and Related media 를 전공했다. 분류와 사회/문화적인 면에 대한 관심을 현대적인 사진어법으로 보여주고 있으며, 커가는 아이들의 모습과 함께, 그들의 변해가는 색에 대해 취향과 소유물 등을 통해 현대 사회의 한 단면을 보여주는 다큐멘터리적인 요소와 문화인류학적인 면을 엿볼수 있는 '핑크 & 블루 프로젝트' 외에도, 'It Will Be a Better Day_근대소설', '반려동물' 시리즈 등의 작업이 있다. 최근 작업으로는 '반려식물', '애착인형', '컬러 프로젝트' '사진으로 읽는 인천 근현대소설' 시리즈가 있다.주요 수상경력으로는 다음작가상 (2006), 소버린 아시아 예술상 그랑프리 (홍콩, 2012), 일우 사진상 (출판부문, 2018), 동강 사진상 (2023)을 수상했다. 작품집으로는 '핑크 &블루 프로젝트' (핫체 칸츠, 2018), (박건희 문화재단, 2007), 'It Will Be a Better Day_근대소설' (핑캔블루, 2014), '반려동물"(이안, 2015)이 있다.

이고은 ● 이고은 사진작가는 '소멸'과 '파괴'를 주제로 한 작업을 통해 존재와 변화의 의미를 탐구하는 작가이며 서울예술대학교 사진과와 홍익대학교 산업미술대학원을 석사 졸업하고, 2016년 글래스고 스쿨 오브 아트에서 석사 졸업했다. 대표작 「사라지고 존재한다」는 폭발을 통해 사물이 해체되는 순간을 포착한 연작으로, 고속 촬영 장치와 전자 기술을 활용해 육안으로 볼 수 없는 순간을 담아낸다. 2024년 KP갤러리 『Scène』 2023년 금보성아트센터의 『Vanish and Exist』, 2016년 갤러리나우의 『The flowers,exploded』 등의 개인전과 2023년 대구사진비엔날레를 포함해 다양한 단체전에 참여하였다.

이선민 ● 이선민의 사진은 우리가 살아가는 시대와 공간을 관찰하고 응시하며 기록하며 어떤 어긋남과 불일치 속에서 나아가고, 견디며, 길항하는 장면들을 포착한다. 이 어긋남은 그의 작업에서 의미를 산출하는 강력한 동력으로 작동한다. 「여자의 집」 이후 최근 MZ 세대의 작업까지 11회의 개인전을 가졌고 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 동강사진박물관 등 국내 미술관과 애리조나 CCP, 산타바바라 미술관, 휴스톤, 파리 포토께 비엔날레, 홍콩, 중국, 헝가리, 일본 센다이 미디어테크, 사이타마 뮤지엄 등 다수의 미술관과 국제전에 초대되었다. 제 22회 동강사진상과 KT&G 최종작가, 송은 미술대상 우수상, 강원다큐멘타리 사진가로 선정되었고 국립현대미술관과 시립미술관, JGS Collection 등에 작품이 소장되어 있다.

이예은 ● 이예은은 사진을 매개로 자신이 경험 했거나 주변 사람들과 나눈 이야기를 통해 거대한 시스템에 가려진 개인들에게 주목하며 이들을 둘러싼 사회적 현상과 사람들의 이야기를 담아내는 작업을 진행하고 있다. 사진 시리즈인 「무모 연작」은 거대한 구조 속에서 삶을 영위해가는 개인들의 작은 노력들을 보여주는 작업이다. 이예은은 아르바이트와 작품 활동을 병행 하면서 열심히 노력하지만 쉽게 나아지지 않는 일상과 변하지 않는 노동 사회의 시스템을 경험했다.노동 사회에 대한 경험과 의문은 작가가 일상의 풍경에 개입하여 사건을 만들고 성질이 달라진 풍경을 만들어낸다. 직접 겪은 현실의 어려움을 비참하거나 비굴하게 표현하는 대신 다른 방식의 행위를 통해 위로하며 연대를 이어가고자 한다.

임안나 ● 세상에 대한 호기심과 참견 본능을 사진 행위로 해소하는 임안나는 자기 반영적 관점으로 사진 매체를 탐구하는 작가이다. 프랑스 아를에서 열린 『Anxiety ON/OFF』(2023)를 비롯한 21회 개인전과 70여 회 국내외 기획전으로 작품 활동을 지속하고 있다. 제11회 일우 사진상(2020), ARLES 국제사진축제 포토폴리오 어워드(2019), 수림사진문화상(2014), 신진여성문화인상(2013) 등을 수상하였다. The New Yorker와 BJP Journal 등에 주요 작가로 소개되었으며, 2024Unseen과 Photo Basel에 초대되었다. 출판물은 『외눈박이와 천사』, 『Anxiety ON/OFF』, 『차가운 영웅』 등의 사진집과 번역서 『사진의 주요 개념』 과 『사진을 비평하는 방법』이 있다. 캘리포니아 주립대학원에서 석사, 홍익대학교에서 박사학위를 받았으며, 현재 상명대학교 사진영상미디어학과에 재직 중이다. ■

Kim Oksun ● Oksun Kim (b. 1967) has photographed women, transnational couples, and foreign residents living in Jeju Island. Kim's work is marked by the subtle capturing of situations, restraint, and distinctive details through a gaze at the periphery, rather than the center-a gaze towards the subjects. The diverse world in her photographs urges the viewer to reorganize one's perspective and senses-to open up and embrace life full of diversity. She has been featured at National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Leeum Museum of Art, Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), and Atelier Hermès in Korea, as well as overseas art museums such as MoMA PS1 in New York, CCP in Tuson and Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. She has held exhibitions in New York, Houston and Santa Barbara (US), Taiwan, Hong Kong, Almaty, Buenos Aires and Santiago. Kim has been awarded the DongGang Photography Award, Ilwoo Photograph Award, Daum Prize.

Kim Jeeyun ● Born in Korea and currently living in Hong Kong, KIM Jeeyun is a visual artist working mainly in Photography and Video. Having left her homeland, KIM spent half of her life in New York, Shanghai, andHong Kong, where she often encountered the question "Where are you from?" in daily life. She has remained preoccupied with an enduring yet challenging theme, identity. Moreover, as a parent of children from an interracial marriage, belonging and identity also became a sensitive and significant issue to her family. KIM takes portraits of mothers and their mixed children around her and collects stories of how interracial family backgrounds impacted their identity formation while posing how individuals identify themselves and relate to Others. Kim holds a BA in Photography from Chung-Ang University and MA in Photography and Video from New York University, and  her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Seoul Museum of Art, Total Museum in Seoul, Lowe Art Gallery in New York, Dumbo Art Festival in Brooklyn, Lumiere Gallery in Makati, Soluna Gallery in Hong Kong, and others. Selected for the 24/25 MH Talent Portfolio, she is currently working on her book publication.

Lee Sunmin ● Lee Sunmin's photography observes, gazes, records the era and space we live in, capturing scenes of discord and discrepancy as we progress, endure, and resist. These misalignments act as a potent force in generating meaning in her work. Since 「Woman's House」, She featured 11 solo exhibitions, including work on the recent MZ generation and has been invited to MMCA, SeMA, Donggang Museum of Photography in Korea and in overseas art museums in Arizona CCP, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Paris Photoquai Biennale, Hong Kong, Houston, Museum of Modern Art, Saitama,Sendai Media Tehque, Lianzhou, Dali. Lee has been awarded 22nd Donggang International Photo Award, KT&G Final Artist Award, Songeun Art Grand Prize, Gangwon Documentary Photographer, and has been collected at the MMCA, SeMA, JGS Collection, and her published a collection of photography 「Family and Motherhood」, 「TWINS」, 「Translocating Women」, 「From Father's Times」

Koo Seong Youn ● Born in Yeosu in 1970. Graduated from Dongguk University's Department of Indian Philosophy and Seoul Arts institute Department of Photography. In 2000 held first solo exhibition with the Butterfly Series. After then works such as glass, plant pots, sand, popcorn, candy, and sugar series. In 2024, I held a solo exhibition with works about plastic waste under the title "「Un-vanishing」. Currently living and work in Seoul.

Hyewon Keum ● Hyewon Keum's work explores the environment, society, and history shaping contemporary life. Her notable series include Blue Territory, examining urban residential transformation; Urban Depth, uncovering hidden city layers; and Cloud Shadow Spirit, highlighting pet funeral culture. The project Seom-ho-kwang connects personal memory with public history through family narratives. Keum has held seven solo exhibitions, including at Art Space Pool (2018), Art Sonje Center (2014), and Ilmin Museum of Art (2011). Her works have also been showcased in group exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (2023), Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (2022), Seoul Museum of Art (2019), and beyond. Recipient of the 12th Daum Artist Award (2013), her works are in the collections of major institutions, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and Seoul Museum of Art.

Lim Anna ● Lim Anna explores photographic media from a self-reflective perspective while relieving curiosity and interference with the world through photography. She has held 21 solo exhibitions, including 『Anxiety ON/OFF』 (2023) in Arles, France, and has participated in over 70 group exhibitions both domestically and internationally. Anna has received several prestigious awards, including the 11th Ilwoo Photography Award (2020), the ARLES International Photography Festival Portfolio Award (2019), the Surim Photography Culture Award (2014), and the Emerging Female Artist Award (2013). Her work has been featured in notable Journal such as The New Yorker and BJP Journal, and she has been invited to participate in the 2024 Unseen and Photo Basel. Her publications include The Cyclops and the Angel, Anxiety ON/OFF, Frozen Hero, and White Veil. She earned her MA from California State Univ. and her Ph.D. from Hongik University, and currently serves as a professor at Sangmyung Univ. in Korea.

Yeeun Lee ● Yeeun Lee (b. 1994) uses photography as a medium to shed light on individuals obscured by vast systemic structures. Drawing from her own experiences and stories shared with those around her, Lee's work seeks to capture the social phenomena and narratives surrounding these individuals. Her photographic series, The Reckless Series, depicts the small yet persistent efforts of individuals navigating their lives within immense societal frameworks. Balancing part-time work with her artistic practice, Lee has experienced firsthand the relentless challenges of daily life and the inflexible systems of labor society. These experiences and her inquiries into the labor system have inspired her to intervene in everyday landscapes, creating events that alter their inherent qualities and invite new interpretations. Rather than depicting the hardships of reality in a pitiful or selfeffacing manner, Lee seeks to offer solace and evoke empathy through alternative actions, reshaping the way we perceive the ordinary.

Lee Goeun Lee Go-eun is a photographer who explores the meanings of existence and transformation through the themes of 'dissolution' and 'destruction.' She graduated with a degree in Photography from Seoul Institute of the Arts and earned an MFA from the Graduate School of Industrial Arts at Hongik University, and later completed her second master's degree at the Glasgow School of Art in 2016.

Ok Hyun Ahn ● Ok Hyun Ahn lives and works in Seoul. She earned her MFA in Photography, Video, and Related Media, at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She was awarded the Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) Fellowship at the Bronx Museum, New York (2012), and has had residencies in the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York (2010), and the Ssamzie Studio Program, Seoul (2007). Her numerous solo exhibitions include Dictee x Love Poem, Daejeon Museum of Art (2023), Love, Tears, Seduction, Lydmar Hotel, Stockholm (2015), and Homo Sentimentalis, SHOW ROOM, NYC (2013). Her work was presented at 12th Gwangju Biennale, 2018 and others. Her work has been collected by the Seoul Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, the Daejeon Museum of Art, and the Photographic Center Northwest, Seattle. Working primarily in photography and video, she not only explores the complex aspects of human emotions but also exposes the banal layers underneath consciousness to be absurd.

Kim Hyoyeon ● Kim focuses on studies the changes that hidden or forgotten historical events, environmental and political places bring to the lives of individuals and groups, and works mainly through visual media, photography and archives, while at the same time, continues to narratology experiment through multidisciplinary methodologies. Her major works include the 『Abnormal Sense』 project, which looks at nuclear war and the 1-4 generations of Korean atomic bomb victims, and the 『Bell of the End』 project, which studies facilities and individuals preparing for 'Extinction' due to environmental crises, war, capitalism, and so on. Participated in numerous group exhibitions and international film festivals, including the solo exhibition 'Abnormal Sense' (KT&G Sangsangmadang Gallery, 2021), as well as exhibitions at Busan Museum of Art, Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA), and Houston FotoFest Biennial.

Sookang Kim ● Sookang Kim was born in Seoul, Korea in 1970. She received her B.F.A in painting from Seoul National University in 1993. In 1997 Kim attend Pratt Institute in New York got M.F.A in photography. She has shown her work in her 23 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows in Korea and USA. Her works has been collected by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Musset for Fotokunst, Odense, Denmark, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea(Art Bank) and Daelim Contemporary Art Museum, Seoul, Gwangju National Museum, Gwangju.

JeongMee Yoon ● Born in Seoul, South Korea in 1969, she majored in painting at Seoul National University, Seoul, photography design at Hongik University, Seoul, and studied at the School of Visual Arts, New York, USA. Yoon's works have been illuminated not only by numerous group exhibitions at museums in Europe, USA, Asia, but also by high-profile solo exhibitions of The Pink & Blue Project showed at Gallery Inn in Seoul, South Korea, Jenkins Johnson Gallery in New York, San Francisco, and La Caja Blanca Gallery in Spain. Her works has also been collected by enterprises and both prominent museums around the world. Through the classification of objects and colors in her photographs, Yoon creates a visual aesthetic that examines modern consumer culture in her ongoing work 'Pink and Blue Project', offering a sociological document about material possessions and peoples' connections to them. Her works are the collections of Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Santa Barbara Museum or Art, and Philadelphia Museum of Art etc.

Nanda ● Born in Seoul, moved to Jeju in 2020 to work. Representative works include "Modern Girl, Gyeongseong Pilgrimage" (2008), which reinterprets modern people formed during Korea's modernization process, "Fuga" (2010), which reexamines the DMZ that functions as ideological propaganda and a tourist product, There are works such as 「The Day」(2011-2012), a work that critically examines objects through an external device, and 「Attitude of Things」(2015), a work about reified humans. Graduated from Duksung Women's University, Department of Industrial Art, Dyeing and Weaving Design (B.F.A., 1993) and Sangmyung University Graduate School of Culture and Arts, Digital Image Department, Visual Art (M.F.A., 2009). ■
