나쁜 시간기록자   : 두 도시를 가로지른 시간의 반란

테크놀로지와 예술의 접점에서 탈식민적 관점으로 시간을 바라보고자 시작된 콜렉티브 크로사이트(x-ights / cros-sites)는 시간, 노동, 기술, 탈식민 전략의 교차점을 탐구하는 프로젝트 『나쁜 시간기록자 (Bad Timekeepers)』에 여러분을 초대합니다. 이번 프로젝트는 10월 19일 캐나다 토론토에서 시작하여 2024년 11월 24일 대한민국 서울에서 마무리됩니다. ● 수치화된 시간의 비인간성에 지배받는 세상에서 『나쁜 시간기록자』는 우리를 시간의 선형적 틀에 가두는 관습을 깨트리고자 합니다. 이 프로젝트는 기존의 시간 서사를 뒤흔들며, 자본주의와 산업주의 시스템을 넘어서는 대안적 시간성을 제안합니다. 예술과 학문의 경계를 넘나드는 대화를 지향하며, 개인적이고 디아스포라적이며 다양한 시간 개념이 공존하는 집단적 미래를 여러분과 함께 꿈꾸고자 합니다. ● 『나쁜 시간기록자』는 아시아와 아시아 디아스포라의 관계를 바탕으로, 다문화 사회에서 사회적 소수자의 시간 경험을 기반으로 한 급진적이지만 더욱 친밀한 대화를 이끌어내고자 합니다. 이 프로젝트는 예술과 미디어, 테크놀로지를 주제로 인간을 산업의 일부로 여기는 사회에 저항하며, 기계적 시계의 한계를 넘어 새로운 길을 모색합니다. ● 2024년, 『나쁜 시간기록자』의 첫해로서 식민 역사의 깊은 상처를 겪었지만 그 안에 보다 큰 탈식민적 미래의 가능성을 품고 있는 두 도시, 캐나다 토론토와 한국 서울에서 릴레이 형식의 공공 프로그램을 통해 선보입니다. 이 프로젝트의 출발지인 토론토는 다문화주의 도시로 대변되지만, 북미 원주민의 희생 위에 세워진 도시라는 점에서 탈식민과 디아스포라적 관점을 중심에 둘 필요성을 보여줍니다. 서울 또한 정치적·문화적 식민 경험과 민주 사회를 위한 시민들의 노력으로 세워진 국제도시로, 한국에서 『나쁜 시간기록자』를 탈식민적 관점에서 바라볼 때 민주주의의 중요성을 상기시킵니다. ● 이번 프로그램에는 김지민 & 아론 셩킹 탕, 김호빈, 유통 린 & 유펑 자오, 케이시 메시자, 아스미타 부타니, 노부타카 아오자키, 이광석, 이샘, 사라 샤르마, 민디 서, 수 유신, 우춘희, 라이언 퍼사디, 줄리 첸, 홍선하, 그리고 Diasporic Futurism(바네사 고든 & 애드리엔 마테우직) 등 여러 사상가와 창작자들이 함께합니다. ● 이 행사는 캐나다에서는 InterAccess, Charles Street Video, 토론토 대학교의 Jackman Humanities Institute와, 한국에서는 한국문화예술위원회의 지원을 받아, 한국-캐나다 수교 60주년 기념사업으로 This Is Not a Church에서 열립니다. ● 더 많은 정보는 인스타그램 @xights_collective에서 확인하실 수 있습니다. ■ 콜렉티브 크로사이트

x-ights /cros-sites/, an artist collective co-founded by Sue Ka and Lingxiang Wu, is pleased to announce the launch of Bad Timekeepers, a visionary diasporic project exploring the intersection of time, labor, technology and decolonial strategies. This inaugural series of public programs will start in Toronto/Tkaronto on October 19, culminating on November 24, 2024, in Seoul. ● In a world governed by the cold precision of mechanical time, Bad Timekeepers seeks to disrupt the linear frameworks that bind our temporal existence. The project challenges conventional timekeeping narratives and proposes alternative temporalities that transcend capitalist and colonial systems of control. A celebration of the fluid and blurred boundaries between time and disciplines, Bad Timekeepers envisions a collective future where personal, diasporic, and speculative notions of time coexist. ● Bad Timekeepers seeks to weave an insurgent tapestry of dialogue from the experiences of Asian diasporic, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. It is a space for those who resist the industrial machine, charting new courses beyond the industrial clock. ● In its inaugural year, Bad Timekeepers will host a series of public events in Toronto/Tkaronto and Seoul/서울, two cities marked by deep colonial histories, yet brimming with potential for decolonial futures. ● Toronto, the project's launch site, is frequently celebrated as a multicultural hub. However, its foundations rest on Indigenous sacrifices, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing decolonial and diasporic perspectives. Likewise, Seoul—an international city shaped by its history of political and cultural colonization alongside citizens' persistent push for democracy—highlights the need to focus on democratic values when framing Bad Timekeepers within decolonial efforts in Korea. ● The program will feature a constellation of visionary thinkers and creators, including Nobutaka Aozaki, Julie Chen, Sunha Hong, Hobin Kim, Kwang-Suk Lee, Inkang Lee, Seam Lee, Yutong Lin, Casey Mecija, Ying Sze Pek, Ryan Persadie, Sarah Sharma, Mindy Seu, Su Yu Hsin, Asmita Bhutani, Choonhee Woo, Yufeng Zhao, Sheung-King Aaron Tang & JeeMin Kim, and Diasporic Futurism (Vanessa Godden and Adrienne Matheuszik). ● Events will be hosted in partnership with InterAccess, Charles Street Video, and the Jackman Humanities Institute at the University of Toronto, and This Is Not a Church.
