Ecological Art from Beneath: Gangwon, Learning from Ant Tunnels. ● 강원국제트리엔날레2024 『아래로부터의 생태예술: 강원, 개미굴로부터 배우다』는 인간과 자연의 관계를 역동적으로 재정립하고자 한다. 기후 위기, 팬데믹, 전쟁에 대한 불안과 4차 산업혁명에 대한 기대감이 뒤섞여 새로운 과거가 일상의 기이한 평범함으로 자리하고 있는 지금, 우리는 시름 중인 행성과 분열하는 세계를 몸소 경험하며 살아가고 있다. 과거 우리가 기존 세계를 이해하는 방식과 이를 증명하는 이야기들이 무너지고 그것들을 대신할 새로운 이야기는 아직 등장하지 않고 있다. 이에 『아래로부터의 생태예술: 강원, 개미굴로부터 배우다』는 다가올 미래를 사려 깊고 지속할 수 있도록 이해하고 실천하기 위한 토대를 마련하기 위한 장을 마련하고자 한다. ● 『아래로부터의 생태예술』에서 "아래로부터"는 미시적이고 덜 위계적인 태도를 표방하고, "개미굴"은 지면 위의 뜨거워진 공기를 땅 밑으로 배출하는 선순환적인 구조를 상징한다. 전시는 지면 위가 아니라 지면 아래에서, 그리고 완성된 형태가 아닌 태도의 관점에서 자연의 재현이 아닌, 인간과 자연의 관계를 새롭게 재편하려는 다양한 예술작업을 선보인다. 이를 통해 지상 위에서 벌어지는 현 상황에 대하여 유연하고 대안적인 사고의 틀을 제시하게 될 것이다. ■ 고동연_허유림

Gangwon International Triennale 2024 seeks to dynamically redefine the relationship between humans and nature through the exhibition "Ecological Art from Beneath: Gangwon, Learning from the Ant Tunnel." In a time when anxiety regarding the climate crisis, the pandemic, and war mingles with anticipation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the past has settled into the strange ordinariness of the modern day. We live in an era where we directly experience a planet in distress and a world in fragmentation. The ways we once understood the world and the narratives that validated these understandings are crumbling, and new stories to replace them have yet to emerge. In this context, "Ecological Art from Beneath: Gangwon, Learning from Ant Tunnels" aims to create a platform that lays the foundation for understanding and practicing a thoughtful and sustainable future. ● Here, "From Beneath" advocates for a more microscopic and less hierarchical approach, while the "Ant Tunnel" serves as a metaphor for a sustainable cycle that channels excess heat from above ground into the earth below. This exhibition presents works that seek to reframe the relationship between humans and nature from the lens of the underground rather than the surface and from the perspective of demeanor (actions) rather than completed forms.
