헤테로포니:10년의연주

광주미디어아트플랫폼(G.MAP)은 광주의 유네스코 미디어아트 창의도시 선정 10주년을 기념하여 『헤테로포니:10년의 연주』전을 개최한다. 본 전시는 광주 미디어아트 10년의 역사를 톺아보고, 현재 미디어아트를 활용한 지역 예술의 다양한 장르의 발현 속 현장을 여러 프리즘의 형태로 포착한다. 이를 통해 지역 미디어아트의 새로운 융복합 예술의 이정표의 그 발로를 제공하는 미래를 향한 연주이다. ● 이번 전시는 '1악장: 연주는 시작되었다.' '2악장: 지금, 여기 우리는 이어져 있으니' '3악장: 10년의 연주, 역사의 선율' 총 3부로 구성된다. 1부는 지역 작가들의 미디어를 활용한 기술 융복합 예술 세계의 여러 양태를 조망하려 한다. 2부는 유네스코 창의도시의 목표인 도시간 교류협력 강화를 통한 문화다양성 증진을 도모하기 위해 문화기관 교류협력의 일환으로 작가 교류 협력 전시를 선보인다. 마지막 3부는 미디어아트 창의도시 선정 이후 10년의 광주 미디어아트 10년의 역사를 되짚어보며, 아카이브 구축을 통한 미디어아트플랫폼의 연구 기능을 강화하고자 하였다. (중략) ● 이 전시를 통해 미디어아트가 작가들에겐 소수의 미디어작가만이 향유하는 특정한 장르가 아니라는 것을 다시 한번 일깨우고자 한다. 미디어아트 정의의 외연을 확장하여 향후 미디어아트가 하나의 장르에 국한되지 않고 모든 장르를 포용하는 하나의 융합된 예술의 형태로서의 발현을 기대한다. 그 결과 미디어아트가 다매체, 다장르의 작가들에게 '기술의 진보' 라는 허상의 진부한 편견의 유리창을 깨고 자유롭게 넘나드는 기회의 장으로 자리매김 하길 바란다. 그 플랫폼의 현장에는 G.MAP(지맵)이 중심에 서 있을 것이다. 유네스코의 헌장(1945)에서처럼 누구에게나 완전하고 평등한 문화의 기회가 주어지는, 만유의 순간이 함께하는 지역의 땅이 되기를 바라는 간절한 소망과도 같은 전시이다. ■ 김하나

This exhibition commemorates the 10th anniversary of Gwangju's designation as a UNESCO Creative City. It reflects on the past decade of media art in Gwangju, capturing the multifaceted developments in local media art through various lenses. The exhibition, titled "Heterophony: A Decade of song," serves as a milestone, presenting a forward-looking perspective on the fusion of media art and local artistic expression. ● The term "heterophony" in the exhibition's title is borrowed from a musical term that refers to the simultaneous performance of a single melody in various ways. This metaphorically represents the evolution and convergence within the genre of media art in Gwangju, where different forms of fusion ultimately express a unified artistic vision. ● The exhibition is divided into three sections: 1. Movement I: The Performance Begins 2. Movement II: Here and Now, We are Connected 3. Movement III: A Decade of Performance, The Melody of History ● Movement I explores the emerging landscape of media art in the region, highlighting works by new and young local artists who integrate diverse media and technologies. This section focuses on how media art is nurtured and flourishes locally, showcasing the vibrant artistic ecosystem of the area. ● Movement II builds upon the Mondiacult Declaration (2022), which underpins the concept of UNESCO Creative Cities. This section aims to promote cultural identity, enhance cultural diversity, and foster sustainable development through strengthened city-to-city collaboration. It features collaborative exhibitions between cultural institutions to chart the future direction of media art within the creative city framework. ● Movement III serves as an archive section, commemorating a decade of Gwangju's media art through a retrospective of artists, exhibitions, research, and activities. This reflection aims to consolidate the history of local media art and reinforce the role of the media art platform as a research hub. ● Gwangju Media Art Platform (G.MAP) aspires to be the control tower for media art in the region, highlighting various aspects of local media art and fostering the future development of its ecosystem. This exhibition shifts the focus from traditional institution-driven media art to the dynamic, self-sustaining media art scene. It poses questions and reflects aspirations for what Gwangju, as Korea's only UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts, should represent. ● The goal is for media art to be connected to the daily lives of citizens, allowing each individual to hold a personal definition and preference for media art. Rather than a city characterized by glitzy facades and neon lights, Gwangju aims to embody media art as an integral part of everyday life, much like smartphones—advancing yet familiar, and serving as both an escape and a comforting presence. The hope is for media art to be a subtle yet profound sensory experience, deeply embedded in our collective history, forming a core aspect of Gwangju's identity. ● Moreover, this exhibition aims to remind artists that media art is not an exclusive genre for a select few but a broad, inclusive art form. By expanding the definition of media art, it envisions a future where media art transcends singular genres to become a form of integrated art, embracing multiple media and genres. The ultimate aim is to establish a platform where diverse artists can freely explore and cross traditional boundaries, with G.MAP at its heart, fostering a region where cultural opportunities are universally accessible, in line with the UNESCO Constitution (1945).
