중간지대 A Border Line

나는 쓸모를 다해 어디에도 속해 있지 않고, 인간 중심적 의미의 소용에서 벗어나 고유의 성질을 갖는 사물에 집착한다. ● 이러한 관심은 잠시 머물다 사라진 가까운 존재에 대한 회상이기도 하며, 부재로부터 얻게된 하나의 결핍임을 보게 되었다. 끊임없이 기웃거리고 훑으며 버려진, 사라질 것들에 대한 관찰은 시간이 흐르며 그 양과 영역이 확대되었고, 버려짐과 사라짐 세계의 중간지대 망령들은 어떠한 끌림의 조각들로 모여 또 다른형태로 전환된다.

수집과 탐색, 새로운 형태로의 조합은 우연적으로 발생하는 또 하나의 사건이자 새로운 여정으로 보게 되었으며, 이렇게 생성된 수많은 관계는 사물의 관계뿐 아니라 나와 타자를 이어주는 매개체가 된다.

이번 전시에 사용된 공장의 금속 찌꺼기들은 플라즈마 가공과정에서 발생하는 불순물로 온전한 몸에서 탈각 된 소비주의의 잔여물이며, 사용자의 쓰임에서 유기된 안마기는 여전히 기능에 충실한 공산품의 잔재들이다.이는 발전주의로 존속되는 생태 속 소외된 도시인의 모습처럼, 익명적 존재지만, 그럼에도 저마다 다른 개별 주체임을 암시한다.

나의 작업은 버려진, 사라질 것들을 소재로 한, 일종의 사물 초상으로 동시대를 살아가는 인간군상을 보여주며, 탈 신비화되어가는 사물 세계에 대한 애도와 비의적 제스처, 저물어가는 시대를 향한 노스텔지어적 몸짓을 보여준다. ■ 안도현

I'm captivated by objects that don't belong anywhere after serving their purpose and that possess their own unique traits beyond the anthropocentric notion of usefulness. ● The interest is the recollection of the short-lived existences rooted in a sort of deficiency that is born from absence. The endless peeping and scanning in observation for discarded and/or disappeared existences expanded in both quantity and quality as time passed. The specter that lingers in the buffer zone between being discarded and disappearing evolves as these pieces are drawn together by an unseen attraction. ● I witness new beginnings and journeys in the assembly of these new formations through collection and discovery. The relationship that forms is an intermediary stage not only for the objects but also for others and me. ● The factory metal waste featured in this exhibition is the remnant of consumerism, the impurities molted from wholesome material during the plasma manufacturing process. The massager discarded from the use of the consumer is still a functional remnant. Like the isolated city dweller amidst developmentalism, these objects are anonymous yet individual, marking them as distinctive subjects. ● My work is a kind of still life that portrays a contemporary human figure using discarded and disappearing materials. It mourns the demystification of objects and offers a nostalgic gesture for an era fading away unintentionally. ■ ANDOHYUN
