경기문화재단은 2023년 경기예술지원 시각예술 창작지원 사업을 통해 총 18인을 선정했다. 이 사업을 통해 경기도를 기반으로 활동하는 작가들을 선정하여 신작 창작을 위한 제작지원금을 비롯하여 창작성과를 발표하는 전시 '생생화화生生化化' 참여, 작가와 신작에 대한 해석과 의미부여를 위한 비평 프로그램에 이르기까지 다각적인 지원을 제공한다. 창작-발표-비평으로 이어지는 지원을 통해 선정된 작가들은 안정적으로 창작과 발표를 지속하고, 작업 세계를 확장할 기회를 얻게 된다. 경기도 시각예술의 흐름과 경향을 살펴볼 수 있는 이 사업은 올해 김홍도미술관과 부천아트벙커B39에서 진행한다. 김홍도미술관은 올해 다섯 번째 생생화화 전시를 개최하며 총 7인의 작가들의 평면 및 설치, 영상 등 다양한 장르의 신작을 김홍도미술관 1관에서 전시한다. ● 김홍도미술관에서 개최되는 『야생화』는 '생생화화'라는 '경기 시각예술 성과발표전' 사업명에서 파생된 전시 제목을 갖는다. '생생화화'에서 연상될 수 있는 음차를 이용하여 경기 지역을 연고로 활동하는 작가들의 다양한 시도와 실험을 묶어 선보인다. 참여하는 7인의 작가 강상우, 구수현, 김선영, 김우경, 비고, 이수진, 조가연은 개인전에 준하는 작업 세계와 역량을 각기 펼치지만 이들 사이에서 조성될 동시대 쟁점은 선명하다. 팬데믹을 거치면서 체감하는 사회적, 환경적, 기후적 위기감은 예술가들의 감각을 고양시켰다. '나'를 둘러싼 감각과 경계에 대한 탐구(비고), 작업하는 '나'와 나로부터 떨어져 나간 감각과 신체의 덩어리(김선영)에 천착하고 내가 바라보는 환경과 풍경의 재해석(조가연), 이 세계 안에서 위태롭게 자리하는 작가적 위치(김우경), 거주 불가능한 세계를 예상(이수진)한다. 확장된 고민은 현재의 스마트 기기를 중심으로 재편된 감각을 아날로그 라디오 감각에서부터 연이어 트랜스미션을 탐색(강상우)하고 변화한 미술 감상 환경을 질문으로 제기하는 참여형 작품(구수현)으로 설치해 본다.

이처럼 '생생화화:生生化化' 『야생화』는 조형과 아름다움에 대한 전문가적 식견과 감각을 시각적으로 발휘하면서도 시대 감각에 예민하고 발빠르게 반응하는 작가들의 작품을 통해 동시대 창작이 지시하는 쟁점을 공유한다. ■ 김현주

The Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation selected a total of 18 artists through Visual Arts Creativity Support Project of 2023 Gyeonggi Arts Support. The project identifies artists who are based in Gyeonggi-do and offers them multi-angled support including grants for new projects, participation in exhibition 'The Breath of Fresh' presenting their works, and critique programs for the interpretation and connotation of the artists and their works. Through this process of creation, presentation and review, the artists will be able to continue their production and presentation in a stable manner and expand their worlds of art. The project, which offers a perspective into the flow and trends of visual arts in Gyeonggi-do, will be held at the Kimhongdo Art Museum and Bucheon Art Bunker B39. The Kimhongdo Art Museum will be hosting the fifth 'The Breath of Fresh' exhibition this year and the artworks of various genres such as surface works, installations and videos of seven artists will be displayed at Hall 1 of the museum. ● The title of exhibition Wildflowers Blooming on the Province, which will be held at the Kimhongdo Art Museum, derives from the name of the project, 'The Breath of Fresh'. Tapping into imaginable transliteration from the name, the exhibition brings together and showcases a wide range of endeavors and experiments of Gyeonggi-do-based artists. The seven participating artists – KANG Sangwoo, KOO Soohyun, KIM Sunyoung, KIM Woogyung, Vigo, LEE Sujin, and JO Gayeon – present their worlds of art and artistic capacity at a scale equivalent to solo exhibitions. Though their views are vastly different, they all share the same contemporary issues. The sense of social, environmental and climatical crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has also heightened the senses of the artists. They explore senses and borders surrounding "me" (Vigo), re-interpret the environment and scenery they see (JO Gayeon) by delving into "me" working on a project and senses and pieces of the body that detached from them (KIM Sunyoung), view their precarious position as an artist in the world (KIM Woogyung), and forecast an uninhabitable world (LEE Sujin). Their enlarged concerns are expressed by exploring senses and transmission that continue from the days of analog radio to the modern use of smart devices (KANG Sangwoo) and offering interactive works that throw questions on the changed environment of art viewing (KOO Soohyun). ● Wildflowers Blooming on the Province from 'The Breath of Fresh' shares issues discussed by contemporary creations through the works of artists who respond sensitively and rapidly to contemporary minds while visually unleashing their expert knowledge and perceptions on form and beauty. ■ KIM hyunju
