점으로 바라본 도시 City and Dot

『점으로 바라본 도시: City and Dot』에서는 서울을 비롯한 세계의 유명 도시들을 조형의 기본 요소인 '점'으로 표현한 도자 조형 작품들이 전시된다. 수많은 점이 글로벌 도시들의 상징물, 세계 지도 등 다양한 도상을 만들어 내며 도시의 이야기가 담긴 작품이 된다. 이번 전시에서는 남산 타워의 자물쇠, 책 읽는 서울광장 등 서울에 초점을 둔 작품도 일부 선보인다. 관람객들은 작가의 언어로 표현된 도자 오브제에 자신의 생각과 경험을 투영하면서 도시에 대한 새로운 시선을 발견할 수 있을 것이다. ● 작품은 백자 슬립을 이용한 도자 작업으로 이루어지는데 판 성형 후 안료와 유약으로 점을 그려 제작된다. 작은 손길에도 예민하게 반응하는 부드러운 점토는 1,250도의 고온 소성을 거쳐 단단하고 영원한 도자로 탈바꿈한다. 작가는 흙이라는 고전적인 재료를 활용해 회화적 설치 작품을 창조하면서 동시대 미술의 새로운 영역을 개척해간다. ■ 서울시청 하늘광장 갤러리

특정한 장소에 나타난 기호나 도상을 포착하고 이것을 도자기 위에 점으로 표현한다. 나에게 '점'은 방향성을 지닌 원천적인 조형 요소로 무한한 가능성과 좌표의 의미를 갖는다. 격자를 따라 불규칙한 패턴으로 나타나는 점은 작품 안에서 도시의 아이콘과 지도를 구성하고 나아가 독립된 장소의 개념으로 확장한다. ■ 권혜현

The 『City and Dot』 exhibition showcases captivating ceramic sculptures portraying famous cities worldwide, including Seoul, through the fundamental element of dots in sculpture. Countless dots come together and form diverse images that include iconic landmarks of global cities and world maps, narrating captivating stories of these urban landscapes. Some exhibited works are dedicated specifically to Seoul, featuring love locks at Namsan Tower and "Seoul Outdoor Library", an outdoor library event taking place in the city. As visitors engage with the artist's language expressed through ceramic objects, they will have the opportunity to project their own thoughts and experiences, discovering a fresh and unique perspective on these cities. ● The artworks are meticulously crafted using porcelain slip in ceramic work, with dots intricately drawn using pigments and glaze after shaping the slabs. The soft clay, delicately responsive even to the lightest touch, undergoes a high-temperature firing process at 1,250 degrees, transforming into solid, everlasting ceramics. The artist delves into the realm of contemporary art, skillfully using the traditional medium of clay to create painterly installation artworks. ■ SKY PLAZA GALLERY

In my work, I capture symbols and images from specific places, transforming them into mesmerizing dots on ceramics. To me, these dots hold profound formative meaning, representing infinite possibilities and coordinates, and serving as directional elements. They elegantly form irregular patterns along a grid, creating urban icons and maps within the artwork, and expanding into the concept of independent places. ■ Hye-Hyeon Kwon
