터부요기니 스페이스 코코 ● 최근 우주가 붐업되고 있는 중 팝아티스트 낸시랭 작가는 항공대 오현웅 교수와 주식회사 나라스페이스 박재필 대표와 콜라보로 스페이스 아트(Space Art) 분야를 개척하고 있다. 과거 백남준 작가의 비디오아트와 같은 형태의 우주를 대상으로 한 현대미술(Contemporary art) 분야를 개척해가려고 하고 있다. 그 첫 번째로 오는 2023년 10월에 예정된 항공 우주분야 국제학회에 사용될 포스터를 낸시랭 작가에게 맡겨져 제작 및 기획하였다. 에어로스페이스 엔지니어링 분야 국제 학회에서는 예술가의 작품으로 선보이는 것은 세계 최초이자 첫 시도이다. 기존의 식상한 학회 포스터를 과감히 탈피하여 낸시랭 작가의 유명한 팝아트 고양이 '버블코코(Bubble Coco)' 캐릭터 그리고 낸시랭의 시그니처 작품인 '터부요기니(Taboo Yogini)' 장르를 통해 아래와 같은 작품을 제작하였다.

터부요기니 스페이스 코코 (Taboo Yogini Space Coco) ● 팝아티스트 낸시랭은 작가 자신이 터부요기니가 되어 2003년 이탈리아 베니스 비엔날레에서의 '초대받지 못한 꿈과 갈등 - 터부요기니(Uninvited Dreams and Conflicts - Taboo Yogini)'라는 당시 파격적인 퍼포먼스 프로젝트를 선보이고, 이어서 캔버스 평면작품으로 터부요기니라는 캐릭터를 창조하였다. ● 인간의 꿈(Dream)을 대신 이루어주는 수호신이라는 컨셉이 바로 터부요기니(Taboo Yogini)이다. 작품을 바라보는 사람의 꿈을 위해 자신의 모든 에너지를 쏟아 이루어주고 '죽음'이라는 '희생'을 통해 또다시 새로운 터부요기니로 부활한다. 지난 20년간 SM엔터테인먼트의 아이돌 그룹 샤이니 키, 코오롱 이웅렬 회장, 패션 디자이너, 교수 등 많은 유명 컬렉터들에게 작품이 소장 되었고 또 현재도 활발한 컬렉팅이 이어지고 있는 낸시랭의 시그니쳐 작품 장르이다. ● 금기시되는 신적 존재를 의미하는 '터부요기니'는 천사와 악마의 혼합된 이미지를 갖고 있는 '신과 인간들 사이에 존재하는 영적인 메신저(The spiritual messenger between God and human beings)'이다. 여기에서 터부(Taboo)'라는 단어는 '금기시되는 것' 그리고 '요기니(Yogini)'라는 단어는 산스크리트 어원에서 '천사(Angel)' 또는 '사탄(Satan)'이라는 사전적 의미를 갖는다. 즉, 터부요기니는 결국 죽는 것이 아니라 영원히 산다는 의미를 갖으며, 작가는 자신의 꿈을 포함해 전세계 모든 사람들의 꿈이 이루어지길 간절히 바라는 소망을 작품에 담고 있다.

이번 국제 우주 항공 학회 포스터에서 선보인 낸시랭 작가의 작품 제목은 '터부요기니 스페이스 코코 (Taboo Yogini Space Coco)'이다. 차가운 로봇 몸체에 순수한 어린이 얼굴과 뜨거운 인간의 심장을 넣어 컨트라스트 기법으로 표현한다. 그리고 소년과 소녀의 얼굴을 사용한 것은 순수한 영혼을 은유하며, 신의 창조물인 아담과 이브와 같이 인간의 태초를 새로운 우주에서 시작함을 의미한다. 그리고 양 어깨 위 두개의 날개는 고양이 버블코코로 배치한다. 이는 인류의 우주를 향한 꿈이 이루어지기 바라는 작가의 간절한 소망과 열정을 버블코코가 열심히 응원하는 모습의 형태이다. 이것은 곧 미래의 우주시대가 가져야 할 인류애를 상징한다. 즉, 메카닉과 올가닉의 조화로운 시작이다. 다리 쪽 위성과 발사체는 터부요기니 몸통과 결합하면서 한국형 우주 발사체 이노스페이스 @innospacecorp 와 한국형 초소형 위성 나라스페이스 옵저버1 @naraspace.official 가 튼튼한 나무와도 같은 다리가 되어, 작가가 상상하는 가까운 미래의 '스페이스 아트' 분야를 개척하고 이를 통하여 우주시대의 미학적 대중화의 향연을 꿈꾼다. ● 고양이 '버블코코(Bubble Coco)'는 행복 아이콘(Icon of Happiness)으로서 낸시랭 작가의 어깨 위에 오랜 시간 함께 해온 고양이 코코샤넬을 아트(Art)로 승화시킨 캐릭터 작품이다. 지난 20여년간 코코샤넬은 작가의 해외전시 및 국내전시 그리고 퍼포먼스 작품과 TV방송까지도 함께하며 팝아티스트 낸시랭보다 더 유명한 '어깨의 고양이 코코샤넬'로서 대한민국 전국민이 아는 가장 인지도 높은 고양이가 되었다. 이렇게 탄생한 버블코코는 낸시랭의 페르소나로서 더이상 늙지 않고 영생하며 자유롭게 시공간을 넘나드는 '행복아이콘'이다.

Taboo Yogini SPACE Coco ● As new space paradigm is all the rage in recent days, pop artist Nancy Lang, Professor Hyun-Ung Oh of Korea Aerospace University and Nara Space Technology CEO Jae-pil Park started a collaboration to pioneer the field of space art. They are pioneering contemporary art for the subject space just as artist Nam June Paik pioneered video art. As their first move, the official poster to be used for the international joint conference of APCATS, AJSAE & AAME on aerospace technology and science slated for October 2023 was designed and created by artist Nancy Lang. It is the world's first and first attempt to present an artist's work at the International Society for Aerospace Engineering. The following artwork was made through a bold break away from the existing and banal conference posters, with artist Nancy Lang's popular cat 'Bubble Coco' and Nancy Lang's signature artwork 'Taboo Yogini'. Space Art, a New Genre of Contemporary Art (Taboo Yogini Space Coco) ● Pop artist Nancy Lang herself became the Taboo Yogini and displayed an exceptional performance project 'Uninvited Dreams and Conflicts - Taboo Yogini'. She went on to create a character called Taboo Yogini as a canvas 2D artwork. Taboo Yogini is the guardian guard that grants people's dreams. It uses all the energy it has to fulfill the dreams of the person looking at the artwork, makes a 'sacrifice' of 'death' and resurrects as a new Taboo Yogini. Over the past 20 years, Nancy Lang's signature artwork genre has been purchased by many famous collectors such as idol Key of SHINee, Kolon Group Chairman Lee Woong-Yeul, fashion designers, professors, doctors, and so forth, and it is still being widely collected today. ● 'Taboo Yogini', which represents a god-like being that is tabooed is the spiritual messenger between God and human beings that has the combined images of angels and demons. Here, the word taboo means 'something that is considered as a taboo' and 'Yogini' originated from a Sanskrit word which has the lexical definition of 'angel' or 'Satan'. In other words, Taboo Yogini has the meaning of being immortal, and the artist create her works with her earnest hope that dreams of everyone in the world including her own come true. ● The title of artist Nancy Lang's artwork in the poster of the international joint conference of APCATS, AJSAE & AAME is 'Taboo Yogini Space Art'. Contrast technique was used to express the innocent face of a child and a burning heart inside a cold robot body. The faces of a little girl and a boy connote pure spirit, and this refers to the beginning of human beings in a new universe like the God's creation, Adam and Eve. Placed on the shoulders of the wings of the body are Bubble Coco, the pop art cat. Bubble Coco is cheering for the artist's earnest wish and passion for the humanity's dreams for space. This symbolizes love for mankind that the future generations of the new space age should have. It is a harmonious beginning of the mechanic and the organic. The satellite and the launch vehicle in the legs combine with the body of Taboo Yogini to represent launch vehicle of Innospace (@innospacecorp) and ultra-small satellite of Observer 1 (@naraspace.official) developed by representative start-up companies in Korea, to hope for the day that they become the strong wooden legs that pioneers the field of 'space technology and a new genre of contemporary art' that the artist visions in the near future, and popularizes it in the new space age. ● The cat 'Bubble Coco' is a character work that sublimates Coco Chanel, a cat that has been together for a long time on Nancy Lang's shoulders as an icon of happiness. Over the past 20 years, Coco Chanel has become the most famous and recognized cat known by all the country. Nancy Lang and Coco Chanel were being together through every exhibitions, performance art works, and moreover showing on TV broadcasts. Now, Bubble Coco is Nancy Lang's persona that can crosses time and space freely, no longer ages. ● Artist Nancy Lang's Taboo Yogini Space Coco became the fascinating symbol of overcoming all obstacles that Korea Aerospace faces on its way toward the future.
