기억나세요? 온통 하얀 마스크의 얼굴들을... 마음의 거리까지 멀어지게 만들던 '사회적 거리두기'. 학교에 맘대로 가지 못하고 컴퓨터 화면과 친숙해져버린 학생들. 투명 가름막을 사이에 두고 말없이 식사하는 사람들. 작은 일상이 무너진 어두운 터널을 지나면서 마스크 없이 지내던 날들을 그리워했습니다. 사람들과 편하게 웃고 떠들던 그 작은 기쁨을. 이 낯선 세월을 보내며 작가는 마스크에 가려진 사람들의 얼굴에서 뭔가를 말하는 듯한 눈빛이 마음에 남았습니다. 안타까움과 답답함 속에 담겨진 원망, 분노, 절망의 눈빛. 어찌할 수 없는 체념의 눈빛. 고통의 시간을 인내하는 성찰의 눈빛. 그리고, 그 가운데 어둠을 뚫어내고자 하는 희망의 눈빛을 보았습니다. 다시는 소중한 일상을 잃어버려서는 안 된다는 깨달음과 함께... Remember? The faces with white masks... "Social distancing," which even made the mind distant. Students who couldn't go to school even they wanted and became familiar with computer screens. People who eat without a word with a clear cleft between them. We missed the days when we were without masks as we passed through the dark tunnel where our small daily lives collapsed. The little joy of laughing and chatting with people comfortably. After all these strange years, I remembered the eyes of the people who were covered in masks as if they were saying something. The eyes of resentment, anger, and despair in sorrow and frustration. The eyes of resignation that can't be helped. a reflective gaze that persevere in a time of pain. And, in the midst of it, I saw a look of hope trying to pierce the darkness. I realized that we should never lose our precious lives again... "Those who are wise will watch these things and realize the kindness of the Lord." (Psalms 107:43) ■ KOEUNJOO
