'Encore! 다시 한번!' ● 연주회에서 연주자가 혼신의 힘을 다해 준비한 모든 곡을 마친 후, 그가 다시 무대에 올라와 연주해 주기를 바라며 외치는 이 한 마디에는 그 순간의 벅찬 감동을 잠시나마 더 느끼고 싶은 청중들의 마음이 그대로 담겨있다. 아트스페이스 J_Cube1은 개관 10주년을 기념하여 『Encore Collectables_10 years' Cube1』展을 통해 그간 Cube1 이라는 공간을 함께 만들어간 27인의 동시대 예술가들의 작품을 소환해 보았다. '예술'이라는 틀 안에서 일반 대중들과 보다 친근하게 소통할 수 있는 공간이 되고자 Cube1은 지난 10년간, 젊은 패기로 뭉친, 에너지 넘치는 참신한 작가들의 전시를 통해 '일상 속 예술' 공간으로 자리해 왔다. 이번 전시는 아트스페이스 J_Cube1과 함께했던 작가들의 행적을 하나의 주제나 획일화된 가치로 범주화하지 않고, 한자리에 다시 모아 동시대 한국 미술의 다채로운 흐름을 살펴보고자 마련되었다.

오늘날 현대미술은 다양한 층위에서 상호-관계성을 생성하며, 공감과 유대를 통해 풍요로운 담론을 형성해 간다. 동시대를 살아가는 젊은 작가들은 시대적 흐름과 변화에 민감하게 반응하며, 제각기 특정한 주제나 소재를 가지고 자신만의 내러티브를 구축하여 새로운 현대미술의 패러다임을 선보임으로써 우리의 인식을 넓혀 나가는데 기여한다. 2022년 타계한 故이어령(1934-2022) 선생의 표현을 빌리자면, 동시대의 예술가들은 "평생을 물음표(지성)와 느낌표(감성, 영성) 사이를 오가며 타우마제인(Taumazein: 그리스어로 깨달을 때의 환희·놀라움)의 벅참"을 작품을 통해 드러내는 것이다.

그렇다면, 가수정, 구나영, 구영웅, 김미아, 김민영, 김보민, 김태연, 김호성, 남재현, 노채영,민율, 박신영, 박지애, 박찬국, 박화영, 소수빈, 유지희, 이영열(GUNWOO ANDREW), 이효연, 장인희, 조은비, 조이경, 지유라, 채영주, 최경아, 최승윤, 캐리리까지, 27인의 한국의 젊은 작가들이 '지금, 이 순간' 우리에게 들려주고자 하는 이야기는 무엇일까? 그간 많은 작가들이 '나만의 새로운 하나의 집'을 짓는다는 마음으로 Cube1에서의 전시를 준비해 왔을 것이다. 그리고 그 하나하나의 독창성을 지닌 개별적인 '전시'라는 집들이 다시 한 공간 안에 마주하여 자리했다. 『Encore Collectables_10 years' Cube1』, 본 전시가 아트스페이스 J_Cube1의 10년간의 발자취와 행보를 되짚어 보는 시간이 되기를 바란다. 더불어 이 공간이 아직 실현되지 않은 자신만의 집을 짓고자 끊임없이 분투하고 있을 또 다른 작가들에게도 신선한 자극을 주는 의미 있는 장소로 지속되기를 꿈꿔보며 2023년의 시작을 열어본다. ■ 한혜원

"Encore!" ● To commemorate the 10th anniversary of its opening, Art Space J_Cube1 beckons to the 27 of our past contemporary artists to reinvite them to our upcoming exhibition, 『Encore Collectables_10 years' Cube1』. With the mission of facilitating the communication between the artist and the general public within the framework of "art," Cube 1 has been established in 2013 as a space for "art in daily life" with fresh exhibitions of emerging artists who are united by youth and enthusiasm. This exhibition was designed to explore diverse aspects of contemporary Korean art by bringing the artists' works to Art Space J_Cube1 without categorizing them into a specific theme or a unified criterion. ● Today, the contemporary art creates mutual-relationships at various levels, and initiates a rich discourse through empathy and bonding of those who appreciate it. Young artists living in the same era react sensitively to the trends and changes of his or her times, and each contributes to expanding our perception by showing a new paradigm of contemporary art in building her own narrative with specific themes or objects. To borrow the expression of the great scholar Lee Eo-ryeong (1934-2022), who recently passed away, contemporary artists reveal "overwhelming feelings of Thaumazein ("wonder" in Greek) while alternating between a question mark (sharp intelligence) and an exclamation mark (sensibility and spirituality) throughout their entire lives. ● Then, what are the stories that the 27 young Korean artists, Ga Sujeng, Gu Nayoung, Koo Youngwoong, Kim Mia, Kim Minyoung, Kim Bomin, Kim Taeyeun, Kim Hosung, Nam Jeahyun, Noh Chaeyoung, Min Yul, Park Shinyoung, Park Jiae, Bak Changuk, Park Howayoung, So Soobin, Yoo Jihee, Gunwoo Andrew, Lee Hyoyoun, Jang Inhee, Cho Eunbee, Cho Yikyung, Ji Yura, Chae Youngzoo, Choi Kyungah, Choi Seungyoon, Kerri Lee want to tell us at this moment? For many artists, preparing for a solo exhibition is like building his or her unique home, a work that requires utmost care and effort. And in this exhibition, these homes will gather together, contributing its own originality to the space. With 『Encore Collectables_10 years' Cube1』, Art Space J hopes this exhibition will be a time to recapitulate the past 10 years.
