예전엔 미처 몰랐어요 I did not really know before ● 이 프로젝트는 정신 질환이 있는 사람과의 공존 및 의사소통에 대한 저의 경험을 바탕으로 하며, 이는 또한 프로젝트의 주요 주제이기도 합니다. 제목은 한국 작가 김소월이 쓴 시에서 유래한 것으로 이 프로젝트의 출발점과 본 프로젝트를 통해 제가 투영하고자 하는 자기분석을 아름답게 묘사하고있습니다. ● 사회적으로 정신 질환을 가진 사람에 대해 낙인이 있지만 저는 이들과의 관계의 여정에 몰입하려고 합니다. 저는 제 자신과 제 생각, 그리고 그에 따른 제 행동을 분석하면서 질문에 대한 해답을 찾아내고 이해하려고 노력하며 마침내 해결해 보고자 합니다.

정신 질환은 에드워드 뭉크 (Edward Munch)와 같은 고문을 받은 예술가의 작품에서 미친 인물로 표현된 것처럼 초기 르네상스 시대부터 우리 시대까지 순수미술의 주제가 되었습니다. 그러나 정신 질환이 있는 사람 곁에 있는 사람들에 대한 관심은 과학이나 심리학 어디에서도 심도 있게 다루어 지지 않는 다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. ● 이렇게 복잡한 상황에 직면함에 따라 저는 끊임없이 제 자신과 저의 행동을 비판하고 결국에는 깊은 좌절감과 죄책감, 그리고 고통을 겪었습니다. 제 자신의 모습은 실험실에서 연구하는 과학자의 정체성을 대변하고, 제 자신의 경험은 표현주의와 고요한 이미지로 표현됩니다. 이와 같은 자기 분석을 통해 이 프로젝트의 개념적 토대가 되는 아이디어와 방법론을 완성할 수 있었습니다.

이 프로젝트는 마치 과학자가 자신의 연구를 하는 것처럼 제 개인의 경험과 닮았습니다. 우선 질병 자체에 대한 감정적 반응의 표현에서 시작합니다. 이어서 특정 기간에 경험이 분열하는 패턴을 통해 대상과 질병을 끊임없이 분석합니다. 결국 현재의 상황을 바꾸고 해답을 찾으려고 하는 과정에서 치료법과 의학에 대한 의미를 생각하게 합니다. 이 의미라 하면 예술가로서의 처방, 예술의 형태를 띈 철학적 치료법, 결코 해결책이 아니었던 미지의 요소로 인한 여파 등이 될 수 있습니다. 따라서 프로젝트의 마지막 부분은 저의 경험과 제가 배운 것, 제가 잃어버린 것과 현재의 저를 자기 해체하는 것으로 표현됩니다. ● 이러한 감정이 일어나는 순간은 지극히 개인적이면서 동시에 보편적입니다. ■ 아이노아

예전엔 미처 몰낫서요 I DID NOT REALLY KNOW BEFORE ● This project is based on my experience with the coexistence and communication with someone with mental illness and that is the major theme of the spatial framework constituting the project. The title comes from a poem written by the Korean author Kim Sowol, the poem itself portraits beautifully the origin of this project and the self-analysis I try to convey. ● Socially, mental illness is stigmatized, but I immerse myself into the journey of the relationship; I discover, try to understand, and finally attempt to clear up the questions, while I analyze myself, my thoughts and subsequent behavior. ● Mental illness has been a topic (portraited) in the fine arts from the early renaissance with the figure of the "crazy" until our times, as well as the figure of the tortured artist like Edward Munch and others. However, what I found out is that the person next to the mentally ill one, it is not that often looked at, not even in science or psychology. ● Confronted with the complexity of this situation, I continually judge myself and my behavior, leading to unavoidable frustration, guilt, self-judgment and pain. The figure of myself starts to represent an identity similar to the scientist approaching research at the lab, as well as the influence of the personal experiences resulting in the combination of expressionism and stillness images. The inquiry of this integration has also satisfied a strong interest in the ideas and methodology of science as a basis for the conceptual underpinning of the work. ● These artworks resemble a walk through to the testimony of my personal experience, a sort of scientific method followed by a scientist. The project begins with the representation of the emotional response to the sickness itself, followed the obsessive analysis of the subject and the illness through patterns that mirror the division and study of the experience in a certain period of time. Subsequently, it shows the search for a cure, the meaning of medicine as an unavoidable result of the aim of changing the situation and trying to find an answer. Prescriptions of an artist, a cure for the knowledge of philosophers in a form of art, and the aftermath of a factor that was never part of the solution. Therefore, the last part of the project is a self-deconstruction of my persona after the experience, what I learn, what I lost, what I became. ● This moment, in which these emotions take place is a very personal experience, yet universal. ■ Ainhoa Martinez
