제15회 부산국제비디오아트페스티발

부산국제비디오아트페스티발이 15회를 맞이했다. 15회는 늘어난 규모만큼 두 개의 기획전, 공모를 통한 선정작품들과 특별전 2개로 구성되어 있다. 우선 기획전은 부산국제비디오아트페스티발의 기조인 지역 큐레이터와의 협업을 전제로, 12회 서평주 · 김효영, 13회 조은비, 14회 김한량에 이어 올해는 침묵의 폭력성에 대해 다루는 한수정 큐레이터의 『무향실(無響室)』과 도시와 이 세계의 가장자리를 맴도는 이들의 이야기에 주목한 강주영 큐레이터의 『가장 바깥의 원』이 준비되어 있다. ● 올해 공모 부문에는 역대 최대인 총 290여 편의 작품이 출품되었고, 총 6편이 경쟁 부문에 올랐으며, 그중 수상작인 호프 터커의 「What Travelers Are Saying About Jornada del Muerto」과 5편의 경쟁작 - 강예솔 「로봇이 아닙니다.」, Clare Chun-yu Liu 「This is China of a particular sort, I do not know」, Ezra Wube 「A True Fairytale」, Ian Haig 「On a clear day you can see forever」, Miguel Rozas 「THE STATE」 - 을 선보이게 되었다. 특기할만한 점은 해외에서 점점 많은 수의 작품이 출품(260여편)되고 있으며, 그 국가들도 특정 지역을 가리지 않고 다양해지고 있다. ● 올해 공모 출품작 중 세계 곳곳에서 일어난 시위의 모습들, 정치적 상황을 포착한 작품들이 많았는데, 경쟁 부문에 오르지 못한 작품 중에서도 소개할만한 가치가 있는, 동시대의 상황을 담아내고 있는 작품과 일종의 연대의 의미를 포함해 특별전 『동시대:세계』를 기획했다. 특별전 『동시대:세계』에서는 Chung Hong IU의 「暴動之後, 光復之前(폭동 이후, 해방 이전)」, Martin Emiliano Diaz의 「 El atardecer(The Sunset)」, Vado Vergara의 「Ate Que Meus Dedos Sangrem(Until My Fingers Bleed)」, Vishal Kumaraswamy의 「Azaadi, Meherbaani Se(Freedom, From Kindness)」를 소개한다. ● 또한 초청 특별전 『동시대:한국』에서는 홍진훤 작가의 「melting icecream」을 소개한다. 「melting icecream」은 민주화운동 당시 촬영된 필름을 복원하는 과정을 따라가며 한국의 민주화운동과 이후 비정규직 운동의 충돌을 다루고 있다. ■ 부산국제비디오아트페스티발 운영단

Busan International Video Art Festival(BIVAF) is celebrating its 15th edition. This year's festival consists of two curated exhibitions, selected works through an open submission, and two special exhibitions with an increased scale. Collaboration with local curators, which is the basic direction of BIVAF, was carried out with co-curators Sujeong Han and Joo-Young Kang this year, following Hyoyoung Kim and Pyoungjoo Seo in the 12th, Eunbee Jo in the 13th, and Hanryang Kim in the 14th. bSujeong Han presents 『Dead Room』, an exhibition about the violence of silence, and Joo-Young Kang presents 『Edge of the concentric circles』 which focuses on the stories of those who circle the edge of this world. ● This year, 290 works, the largest ever, were submitted, and six films were selected. Prize-winner is 「What Travelers Are Saying About Jornada del Muerto」 by Hope Tucker, and we present five competitive works; 「 I'm not a robot.」 by KANG Yesol, 「This is China of a particular sort, I do not know」 by Clare Chun-yu Liu, 「A True Fairytale」 by Ezra Wube, 「On a clear day you can see forever」 by Ian Haig, 「THE STATE」 by Miguel Rozas. It is noteworthy that an increased number of works (260 works) from abroad have been submitted, and the countries are also diversifying regardless of the region. ● One more thing to mention is that there were a lot of works recording the political situation and protests from all over the world. Therefore, among the works not included in the selection, we organized a special exhibition 『Contemporary:The World』 as a means of support. In the special exhibition 『Contemporary:World』, we present 「After the riot, before the liberation」 by Chung Hong IU, 「El atardecer(The Sunset)」 by Martin Emiliano Diaz, 「Ate Que Meus Dedos Sangrem(Until My Fingers Bleed)」 by Vado Vergara, and 「Azaadi, Meherbaani Se(Freedom, From Kindness)」 by Vishal Kumaraswamy. ● The invited special exhibition 『Contemporary: Korea』 presents 「melting icecream」 by Jinhwon Hong. 「melting icecream」 follows the process of restoring films shot during the democratic movement and focuses on the conflict in Korea between the democratic movement and the struggle of non-regular workers afterward. ■ Team BIVAF
