낯선 곳에 적응해가는 여정 속에 포착된 장면들을 서사적으로 풀어낸 작업이다. 시간이 지나고 경험이 쌓이면 뭐든 단련되어 능숙해 진다고 예상하지만, 새로운 것에 대한 적응능력은 이와 다른 맥락일지도 모른다. 지내온 시간과 경험을 바탕으로 스스로 정의하려 하고, 익숙함에 정착하려는 생각들은 점점 더 새로운 것에 대한 적응능력을 떨어뜨린다.

적응은 점진적인 변화가 아니라, 찰나에 일어나는 전환에 가깝다고 느꼈다. 낯선 곳에서 지내다보면 알수없는 포인트에서, 알게모르게, 어느순간 낯선 곳이 익숙함으로 전환된다. 경험하지 않았던 것에 직접 부딪히고 새롭게 "전환점"을 마주해야하는 순간들이 필요하다. 사실상 전환점은 낯선 곳으로의 여정을 떠나는 것부터 시작된다. 이로써, 낯설기때문에 적응을 위한 돌파구를 찾아야하는 여정이 아니라, 돌파구를 위해 낯섦을 택하는 여정이 되는 것이다. ■ 김유림

This is narrative storytelling work about the process of adapting to unfamiliar places. We used to expect that people can be proficient and trained as time passes and experience build up. However, the ability of adapting to new things would be in different contexts. The habits of settling in what we are familiar and defining themselves based on experience gradually decrease the ability of adapting to new things. ● Adaptation is not a gradual change but an abrupt transition. When you stay in a new place, the unfamiliar place would be suddenly switched to familiar zone at some point without knowing. There are moments when you have to try something you haven't experienced and face a new "turning point." In fact, the turning point begins from stepping into somewhere unfamiliar. As a result, it becomes the journey of choosing unfamiliarity for breakthrough, rather than the journey of finding solutions to escape from unfamiliarity. ■ Youlim Kim
