미술관 속 당신의 다락방으로 여러분을 초대합니다. ● 경남도립미술관은 2021년 9월 10일부터 10월 10일까지 싱글채널비디오 프로젝트 『PAUSE, REWIND, PLAY』를 개최합니다. 본관은 지난 2008년부터 2018년까지 싱글채널비디오 시리즈를 통해 비디오아트의 속성을 실험적으로 연구하는 작가와 작품을 꾸준히 소개해왔습니다.

3년 만에 재개하는 이번 싱글채널비디오는 팝업 형식으로 진행되는 프로젝트로서, 서로의 거리를 견디며 각자의 공간에서 내밀한 시간을 보내고 있는 당신을 미술관 속 사유공간으로 초대합니다. 참여 작가 함혜경은 싱글채널비디오 매체를 통해 스쳐 지나가기 쉬운 일상적인 장면, 음향, 텍스트를 수집하고, 조율하며 임의의 이야기를 만들어왔습니다. 화려한 장치를 사용하지 않고도 무수한 생각의 틈을 내미는 그의 영상작품 속 내적 독백 서사는 그동안 비어있던 미술관 속 작은 공간을 점유하여, 일상이 정지되기 전 우리의 모습을 추억하도록 만듭니다.

프로젝트 제목인 『PAUSE, REWIND, PLAY』는 비디오 매체에서 주로 사용하는 기능으로부터 출발합니다. 일시정지하여, 되감고, 재생하는 행위는 우리의 익숙한 움직임에 대한 재인식을 은유합니다. 먼저 '일시정지'는 행위의 세계에서 사유의 세계(『빈 공간』, 피터 브룩, 이민아 옮김, 걷는 책, 2019, p.157.)로 움직임을 전환하며, 쉽게 지나칠 부분적인 인상에도 더욱 몰입할 수 있는 개인의 환경을 조성합니다. '되감기'는 프레임 안팎에 분명 존재하지만 감각하지 못했던 현실 속 흐트러진 조각들의 접합을 의미하며, 스크린 너머의 관객 각자를 깊은 내면으로 이끕니다. 관객은 3년간 잠시 멈춰있던 이곳 미술관 공간에서 일시정지와 되감기를 반복해 뒤섞인 우연들을 마주하고, 이를 다시금 독특한 자신만의 이야기로 '재생'해나갑니다. 결국 『PAUSE, REWIND, PLAY』는 무차별적인 편집과 압축으로 언젠가 흘려보냈을 나의 이야기인 동시에 어느 누구의 이야기도 아닌 환상처럼 흘러갑니다. 여기, 누구에게나 열린 임시 공간, 미술관 속 마련된 당신의 다락방에서 끝없이 교차하는 시간과 기억의 이미지를 즐겨보시길 바랍니다. ■ 경남도립미술관

Please visit our attic in the museum. ● The Gyeongnam Art Museum(GAM) will hold a Single Channel Video Project called PAUSE, REWIND, PLAY from September 10 to October 10, 2021. From 2008 to 2018, we have regularly introduced artists and works through Single Channel Video series that experimentally studies the properties of video art. ● The Single Channel Video, which is reopening after 3 years, is a pop-up project. During these days, you have endured the distance and the time, so we would like to invite you to personal space in the museum. Hyekyung Ham, who is an artist in this project, has collected scene, sound, and text, and then created random stories through the media that could be easily overlooked in our routine. Without complex patterns in the video, inner monologue descriptions created countless gaps in thought. It will occupy a small space in the museum, and make us remember our previous daily lives. ● The project title, PAUSE, REWIND, PLAY, is named after the functions that are used in the video. This metaphor means re-awareness which is about the act of pausing, rewinding, and playing our movements. First, 'Pause' converts movement from the world of behavior to the world of muse(『The Empty Space』, Peter Brook, Translated by Mina Lee, WalkingBook, 2019, p.157.), and creates personal space that could be more immersed, otherwise easily neglected. Second, 'Rewind' refers to the bonding of scattered pieces in reality that exists, but could not be sensed between inside and outside of the frame. At the same time, it leads each audience behind the screen to the deeper inside of the mind. The audience will experience a mixture of coincidences by repeating pauses and rewinds in the projection room, which has been closed for three years in the museum, and 'Play' it again with their unique stories. In the end, PAUSE, REWIND, PLAY could be your story disregarded with indiscriminate editing and compression, and at the same time, it will pass like a fantasy, not just anyone's story. Here, in the open space, we hope you could enjoy the image of time and memory that intersects endlessly in your attic in the Gyeongnam Art Museum. ■ Gyeongnam Art Museum
