기술의 발달과 함께 일상으로 침투한 가상 공간은 정체성을 창조하고 경험하는 방식의 변화를 가져오고 있다. 스마트폰과 같은 다양한 연결기기는 가상세계로의 상시 접속을 가능케 하며, 우리로 하여금 연결된 삶Networked Life을 살게 하고, 온·오프라인의 존재적 경계를 흔든다. 현실 세계와 여러 개의 메타버스Metaverse를 동시에 살아가는 것이 자연스러운 세상에서 자아정체성은 더 이상 고정된 단일 개념이 아닌, 변화무쌍한 다중적 개념으로 작동한다. ● 코리아나미술관의 국제기획전 『프로필을 설정하세요』는 최근 10여 년간 디지털 미디어 환경의 급속한 변화와 맞물려 주요한 이슈로 부상하고 있는 '멀티 페르소나(다중정체성) 현상'과 이를 탐구하는 동시대 작가들의 시선에 주목하는 전시이다. 전시 제목 '프로필을 설정하세요'는 개인 전자기기나 SNS 계정, 게임 등을 시작하는 설정 단계에서 자주 접하게 되는 문구이다. 프로필은 '나'란 존재를 나타내는 도구로 상징되며 그것을 '설정'한다는 행위는 자신의 정체성을 스스로 선택하고 편집할 수 있는, 새롭게 형성된 주체 감각을 내포한다. 여기에는 나를 감추는 동시에, 나를 드러내는 행위가 교차된다. ● 이렇듯 전시는 온라인 프로필과 아바타, SNS 계정에 따라 가상의 서로 다른 유연한 자아, 즉 여러 '부캐sub-character'를 생성하여 순간순간 업데이트하고, 끊임없이 편집과 리셋을 반복하며 멀티 페르소나의 시대를 살아가고 있는 현대인의 모습과 이를 둘러싼 질문들을 국내외 작가 9인의 다채로운 시선과 예술적 실천을 통해 살펴본다. ■ 코리아나미술관

Weaved into the fabrics of daily life with advancements in technology, virtual spaces are changing the ways in which we create and experience identity, as they become. Connective devices such as mobile phones enable around-the-clock access to virtual worlds, blurring the existential boundaries between on/offline presences and leading us into the folds of networked life. Now, in a world where simultaneous habitation of numerous metaverses and their external plane of reference has become normality, self-identity is no longer a fixed and uniform concept as it morphs into an ever-shifting, multi-faceted state of being. ● SET UP YOUR PROFILES, the museum's thematic exhibition illuminates the artistic perspectives on this 'multi-persona' phenomenon, which has been emerging as a key issue amidst rapid changes in the digital mediasphere over the past decade. The title, 'Set Up Your Profiles,' is a phrase we often encounter in the initial stage of setting up personal devices, social media and gaming accounts. A profile can serve as the instrument of 'self' expression, while the act of 'setting' it up implies a newly formed subjecthood that allows one to choose and edit one's own identity. Here, self-concealment and disclosure intersect. ● As such, through the works of nine participating artists, the exhibition offers a colorful spectrum of perspectives on contemporary subjects in the age of multiple personae and attendant questions, looking at how we set up online profiles, avatars, and social media accounts to generate, constantly update, and ceaselessly edit/reset disparate and flexible virtual selves (or in other words, sub-characters). ■ Coreana Museum of Art
