코로나19 팬데믹으로 안전을 위한 국가의 감시 통제와 개인의 사생활 침해에 대한 갑론을박은 전 세계를 관통하고 있다. 2021 ACC 지역아시아작가전 『친애하는 빅 브라더: 다시는 결코 혼자일 수 없음에 대하여』는 파놉티콘과 시놉티콘이 공존하는 우리 삶의 명암을 아시아 작가들의 시각에서 전달한다. 광주 지역과 아시아를 근간으로 활동하는 작가들의 다채로운 작품을 통해 코로나19와 병존할 수밖에 없는 오늘의 사회 공익과 개인 존엄에 대한 새로운 기준의 가능성을 모색하고, 다시는 결코 혼자일 수 없는 현실에 대하여 함께 고민할 수 있는 공론의 장을 제공하고자 한다. ● 2021년 8월 13일부터 11월 14일까지 국립아시아문화전당 문화창조원 복합 6관에서 진행되는 2021 ACC 지역아시아작가전 『친애하는 빅 브라더: 다시는 결코 혼자일 수 없음에 대하여』는 지역 문화의 동반 성장을 견인하기 위한 국립아시아문화전당 지역 연계 프로젝트의 일환이다. 2017년부터 진행되고 있는 'ACC 지역아시아작가전'은 동시대 사회적 이슈와 담론을 광주 지역과 아시아 작가들의 작품을 통해 인문∙예술학적으로 전달한다.

21세기 감시 통제 사회에 대한 아시아 작가들의 제언 ● 21세기 4차 산업 혁명 시대 일상의 디지털화는 감시의 방식, 목적, 형태를 억압에서 유혹으로, 생산에서 소비로, 통제에서 배제로 변화시켰다. 빅 브라더와 리틀 브라더들이 만나는 길목에서 등장한 팬데믹은 포스트 파놉티콘 사회로의 여정에 가속도를 더해 주었다. 전 세계를 관통한 전염병은 감염병 예방을 위한 중앙 정부의 감시 통제 및 투명한 개인 정보 공유의 필요성과 사생활 및 인권 침해 위험성에 대한 지구촌 각계각층의 논의를 가시화했다. 이러한 맥락에서 이번 전시는 감시 통제 사회의 앙면에 대한 공통되면서도 서로 다른 관점들을 동시대 아시아 시각 예술을 통해 고찰하고 공유하는 열린 플랫폼을 제시하기 위해 기획되었다.

광주, 베이징, 상하이, 홍콩, 도쿄, 마닐라, 랑푸르 작가 ● 전시에는 광주 출신이거나 광주 지역에서 작품 활동을 하고 있는 지역 작가 2인 이연숙, 임용현을 비롯해서, 아시아 출신 또는 활동 작가 6인(팀) 덩 위펑(베이징), 아지아오(상하이), 침↑폼(도쿄), 아이사 혹손(마닐라), 하산 엘라히(랑푸르), 정 말러(홍콩), 이렇게 총 8인(팀)이 참여한다. 전시는 2021년 국립아시아문화전당 커미션 신작 4작품을 포함하여 총 10작품으로 구성되어 있다. 광주를 포함한 아시아 작가들의 다채로운 작품을 통해 코로나19와 병존할 수밖에 없는 오늘의 사회 공익과 개인 존엄에 대한 새로운 기준의 가능성을 모색하고, 다시는 결코 혼자일 수 없는 현실에 대하여 함께 고민할 수 있는 공론의 장이 되기를 바란다. ■ 권은영

The heated argument against the surveillance and infringements on personal life by the government under the name of the prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to gather pace. The 2021 ACC Gwangju & Asian Artists Exhibition Adorable Big Brother: On Never Being Alone Again delivers the light and shade of our life where panopticon and synopticon co-exist from the perspectives of an Asian artist. This exhibit is expected to seek out the possibilities for inspiring a new standard for public interest and the personal dignity of today's society, where it is inevitable to co-exist with COVID-19, and provide a forum for public discussion to think of a reality where no one will be able to be alone again. ● The 2021 ACC Gwangju & Asian Artists Exhibition Adorable Big Brother: On Never Being Alone Again held at Space 6 of ACC Creation from August 13 to November 14, 2021, is part of the projects by the ACC related to the region to plunge into the mutual growth of the regional cultures. Since its inception in 2017, the ACC Gwangju & Asian Artists Exhibition delivers contemporary social issues and discourses through the projects by artists from Gwangju and Asia from the perspective of art and humanities.

Proposals for the 21st-century surveillance society by Asian artists ● The digitalization of daily life in the 4th Industrial Revolution in the 21st century has changed the methods, purposes, and styles of surveillance from oppression to temptation, from production to consumption, and from control to exclusion. The pandemic that broke out in the corner where Big Brother and Little Brothers come together has accelerated the journey of post-panopticon. The pandemic sweeping across the entire world has ignited discussions from every walk of life with respect to the need for the surveillance of the central government and the transparent sharing of personal information to prevent the epidemic and made the danger of the infringement on private life and human rights visible. In this era, this exhibition provides an open platform where people can contemplate the shared and different perspectives on the light and shades of surveillance society through the works by contemporary Asian artists.

Artists from Gwangju, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Manila, and Rangpur ● Yeon Sook LEE, LIM Yonghyun, the two artists from Gwangju or working based on the city, and six artists (teams) from/working based on Asia—DENG Yufeng (Beijing), aaajiao (Shanghai), Chim↑Pom (Tokyo), Eisa JOCSON (Manila), Hasan ELAHI (Ranpur), and Zheng Mahler (Hong Kong)—participated in this exhibition. The exhibition consists of ten works, including four new works commissioned by the ACC in 2021.
