SPRING DREAM, 봄 꿈

롤랑 바르트는 이런 낭만적인 말을 남겼습니다. '나는 그 사람이 아프다.' 그 누구도 목적어 자리에 있지 않고 주어의 자리에서 나도 그도 아픈 곳에서 만나고 있습니다. 나는 그 사람이 아프다는 것은, 언젠가는 더는 아프지 않다는 의미가 아닙니다. 나도 아파서, 그리고 그 사람도 아파서 우리가 만날 수 있습니다. 서로 아픔으로 인해 알게 되었고, 그 때문에 우리는 더욱더 깊은 만남을 준비하게 됩니다. 우리를 감싸는 그림을 바라보며 봄꿈을 꿉니다. 그리고, 함께 존재한다는 사실 만으로 서로의 아픔을 교감 할 수 있는 관계와 타자와의 교감에 대해 생각하게 됩니다. 매일 아침 눈을 뜨면 들려오는 소식들은 사건 사고, 재해, 기근 등의 부정적인 것들이 대부분을 차지합니다. 이런 소식들은 사람들의 미래에 대한 전망을 암울하게 합니다. 삶을 살면서 지니게 된 불편한 기억들 위에 또 상처들이 쌓여 쉽게 아물 것 같지 않은 세상의 틈 속에서 우리는 살고 있습니다. 다양한 층위의 삶과 그 배경이 혼란스럽게 뒤섞이면서 세계의 상처는 개별적인 범주를 벗어나 현대 사회의 기표가 됩니다. ● 상처는 숨 막히는 속도에 지친 현대인들에게 강박장애처럼 작용합니다. 개인적인 의지와 관계없이 구획 화 된 체계에 부응해야 하는 삶의 방식은 공통의 상처를 요구하고 그 상처에 길들여지길 원합니다. 즉 현대인들은 삶의 희망적인 비전과 그 이면의 상처에 대한 두려움을 동시에 숙명처럼 안고 살아가야 하는 존재들처럼 비춰집니다. ● 내 작업은 이런 현대인들의 상처에 대한 느낌들에 대한 것입니다. 즉 나와 관계를 맺고 있는 세계의 모든 것들은 상처를 공유한다는 생각에서 비롯됩니다. 현재의 내 모습은 개별적인 존재를 떠나 세상의 일부이고 내가 느끼는 상처는 개인적으로 전유할 수 있는 범위를 벗어난다는 것입니다. 따라서 내가 기록하는 상처의 흔적들은 감정의 프로세스를 떠나 현대 사회의 구조적이고 상징적인 무언가를 포괄할 수 있기를 바라는 것입니다. Roland Barthes left these romantic words. "Your pain is in my heart." No one is in the object position, and I am meeting him or her in the subject position. I don't mean that he's not sick anymore someday. I'm sick, and he's sick, so we can meet. We got to know each other because of the pain, so we prepare for a deeper meeting. We dream of spring while looking at the picture that surrounds us. And the fact that we exist together makes us think about the relationship we can share our pain with others. (Artist Note 2021.5)

The news that comes in every morning when you wake up is mostly negative, such as accidents, disasters, and famines. These news depress people's prospects for the future. We live in a gap in the world where wounds accumulate on uncomfortable memories that we have had in our lives and are unlikely to heal easily. As various levels of life and backgrounds are mixed together, the wounds of the world become a sign of modern society beyond individual categories. ● Wounds act like obsessive compulsive disorder in modern people who are tired of stifling speed. A way of life that, irrespective of personal will, has to live up to a compartmentalised system requires common wounds and wants to be tamed. In other words, modern people are seen as beings who have to live with the hopeful vision of life and the fear of the wounds behind it at the same time as fate. ● My work is on the feelings of these modern people's wounds. In other words, everything in the world that I have a relationship with comes from the idea of sharing wounds. My present self is part of the world apart from individual existence, and the wounds I feel are beyond my personal reach. So the scars I record are something that I hope will cover, apart from the emotional process, something structural and symbolic in modern society. ■ ChoHui Kim
