줄줄줄 FolLOWING

서왕공원은 비탈길에 유리창으로 이루어진 공간이다. 유리창으로 이루어진 윈도우 전시장이기 때문에 안과 밖의 구분이 모호하고, 도로변에 있어서 어디로든 흘러갈 수 있다. 이번 프로젝트에서 조미낭 작가는 서왕공원에서 한 달간 머무르며 공간의 물리적 특징을 연구한 뒤 비물질적인 라이브 스트리밍이라는 방법으로 서왕공원을 재해석하였다. 조미낭 작가는 작업에 앞서 새로운 장소에 대한 호기심으로 충현동을 탐방하였다. 어느 날 작가는 알 수 없는 출처를 가진 물이 구멍에서 나오는 것을 발견하게 됐고 이는 이번 작업에 시발점이 되었다. ■ 줄줄줄 스트리밍 프로젝트

서왕공원은 경사가 비탈진 곳에 위치한다. 어디든 흘러가고 연결될 수 있는 평평한 공간과 달리 연결을 위해서는 필연적으로 통로가 필요하다. 그렇기 때문에 높은 곳에서 낮은 곳으로 흐르는 물의 배수를 위해 길 곳곳에 배수관이 있다. 선으로 연결된 배수관 양 끝 구멍은 검은 점으로 존재한다. 한 점에서 다른 점으로. 구멍을 잇는 연결 통로는 분명 존재하지만, 눈에 보이지 않는다. 흙 속에, 시멘트 사이에, 벽 속에 묻혀 마치 존재하지 않는 것처럼 공간을 하이퍼링크 할 뿐이다. 하지만 분명 그 통로 안에는 한 점에서 다른 점으로 이동하기 위한 물과 공기, 흙과 먼지의 흐름이 계속되고 있다.

현대의 디지털 세계에서 시공간은 모두 연결되어 있다. 물리적인 시공간과 상관없이 어디든 연결되어 즉각적으로 감각하고 반응한다. 그 연결은 굉장히 빠르기 때문에 거의 순간이동처럼 보이고, 하이퍼링크라는 이름을 갖게 되었다. 조미낭 작가는 그 즉각적인 연결의 끝점이 아닌 중간 통로에 주목한다. 그 통로 속의 흐름은 배수관에서 물이 흘러가는 것이기도, 시간이 흘러가는 것이기도 하다. 갑자기 생겨난 점처럼 보이는 모든 결과물은 분명한 선을 타고 흘러온다. ● 서왕공원에 설치된 12대의 전자기기는 줌, 인스타그램, 유튜브, 트위치에서 실시간으로 서왕공원의 물리적 공간을 스트리밍한다. 각각의 기기는 촬영과 실시간으로 송출되는 상황을 전시한다. 서왕공원이 카메라 영상으로 담겨 다시 서왕공원으로 흘러나오게 되는 것이다. 그 반복되는 흐름 속에서 생기는 잔상과 에코 음을 통해서 우리는 하이퍼링크가 지나온 중간지점을 목도할 수 있게 된다. 조미낭 작가가 만들어낸 스트리밍 영상은 마치 충현동 곳곳에 있는 배수관처럼 숨겨진 상태로 물질을 연결하는 흐름을 만들어낸다. ■ 이정민

나는 실시간을 살고 있는가. ● 실시간으로 재생되고 있는 각종 스트리밍들, 라이브 소통, 화면을 아래로 당기면 막 업로드된 끊임없는 수많은 정보들과 이미지들을 어디에서나 소비하는 우리는 실시간을 살고 있는가? 눈에 보이는 바로바로 올라가는 '좋아요'와 3초 전 달린 댓글에 즉각적인 반응은 현재인가 과거인가 ● 집으로 가는 지하철 안 누군가에 의해 생겨난 라이브 알림에 기다렸다는 듯이 접속한다. 나는 더이상 지하철에 앉아 노선도 역 이름 위 깜빡이며 한-칸 한-칸 오랜 시간 이동하는 지루한 안내 등을 보며 시간을 보낼 필요가 없다. 30분 전 업로드 된 사진에도 흥미가 떨어져 갔던 참이다. 화면 안 재생되고 있는 모습들에 푹 빠져 있는 동안 나는 마침내 어디에서 시간을 보내고 있는지 망각하게 된다. 지루했던 시간의 흐름과는 또 다른 뒤틀린 화면의 타이머에 감각을 곤두세운다. 내가 있지 않은 재생되고 있는 장소에 본격적으로 자리를 잡고 함께 몰입한다. ● 사실상 이미 지나가 버렸을 어느 상황을 바라보며 채팅창에 글을 쓰고 아이콘을 클릭하는 등의 열렬한 반응을 보인다. 그리고 나에게 다시 즉각적으로 돌아올 반응을 기대한다. 내가 이입한 이 순간의 시간은 화면 너머 공간에서 밀려 조금씩 딜레이된다. 클릭으로 시작된 알수 없는 곳의 실시간에 올라탄 나와 정거장을 따라 앞으로 나아가고 있는 나의 지금은 다른 곳으로 흐른다. ■ 조미낭

Seowanggongwon is a window gallery on a slope. Therefore, the distinction between inside and outside is ambiguous and can flow anywhere by road. In this project, Minang Cho worked at Seowanggongwon for a month, studied the site's physical features and reinterpreted Seowanggongwon by streaming(which is non-material). Minang Cho explored Chunghyeon-dong, Seoul, with curiosity about the new place before working on the project. One day, the Artist found weird water from an unknown source coming out of the hole, which was the starting point for this work. ■ FolLOWING streaming project

Seowanggongwon is the artspace located on a steep slope in Chungheon-dong, Seoul. Unlike a flat space that can flow and be connected anywhere, a link is inevitable for connection in this site. There are drainpipes all over the road to make water flow from high to low. The holes at both ends of the drainpipes seem like black dots. It is obviously a conduit for the passage, but we can only see the black dots. Buried in the dirt, between cement, and under walls, it simply hyperlinks space as if it didn't exist. But there is a continuous flow of water, air, soil and dust inside the pipes to flow from one point to another. ● In the modern digital world, we can connect to everything regardless of time or physical space. We can be instantly sense and react to anything. The connection (which is called hyperlink) is so fast that it almost looks like teleportation. Minang Cho is interested in passage of the link itself, not the result of the link. The flow through the connection stands for both the water flowing from the drainpipe and time passing in Seowanggongwon. All the seemingly abrupt results of dots is flowing down from lines. ● There are 12 electronic devices installed in Seowanggongwon, streaming the physical space of the place in real-time on Zoom, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitch. Each device captures directly stream Seownaggongwon and displays a situation in which it is filmed and transmitted in real-time. Through the afterimage and each generated in this flow, we can see the process of the hyperlink. The streaming video in this project creates a flow that connects materials in a hidden state like drainpipes throughout Chunghyeon-dong. ■ Lee Jeongmin

Am I living in real-time? ● Do we live in real-time where we consume all kinds of streaming, live communication, and endless information and images that have just uploaded when we scroll the screen? The immediate response to visible likes and comments posted 3 seconds ago is now or in the past? ● On my way home, I log on as if I were waiting for a live notification that suddenly came up in the social network community in the subway. I don't have to spend time sitting on the subway and gaze blinking on the station's name on the screen and the boring guide lights that travel one by one for a long time anymore. While I hooked on the video streaming on my phone, I finally forget where I'm spending my time. The timer on the distorted and different screen, which is different from the tedious flow of time, focuses on the screen. ● I write in the chatbox, click on the icon and react, looking at a situation that might have already passed. And I look forward to an immediate response back to me. The time of this moment I entered is pushed out of the space beyond the screen and delayed little by little. I ride on a mysterious place that started with a click(or touch), and I move forward from a subway station to another station are flowing to another site. ■ Cho Minang
