지금 여기, 행복 ● 행복을 그린다. / 가족을 그린다. / 꽃을 그린다. / 그 속에 행복을 선사하는 사소한 순간들에 대한 감사를 담는다. / 특별할 것 없는 일상이어서 소중함을 깨닫지 못하는 그 순간 안에 우리 삶의 진실과 행복의 열쇠가 숨겨져 있을지 모른다. / 즐겁고 행복한 기억은 삶의 위로와 힘이 되어주기에 오늘도 일상의 이야기들을 재구성하고 추억과 상상을 넘나들며 마티에르와 컬러가 주는 고뇌와 기쁨을 함께 즐기며 작업의 시간을 보낸다. / 일상과 기억의 도처에 숨어있다 뜻밖의 선물처럼 다가올 또 다른 행복을 기대하면서.

일상에 숨겨진 수많은 행복 ● 일상이란 그리 특별하지 않을뿐더러 단조롭고 고단한 시간의 반복이기에 한없이 보잘것없는 듯 느껴지기도 한다. 그러나 너무 바쁘게 살아가느라 지나쳐 버리거나, 혹은 아주 가까이에 있어서 오히려 소중함을 깨닫지 못하는 그 순간 안에 삶의 진실과 행복의 열쇠가 숨겨져 있을지 모른다. 나는 소소한 삶의 이야기들 속에서 발견되는 행복을 나만의 조형언어로 시각화하는 작업을 하고 있다. 작품의 소재가 되는 것은 어릴 적 기억이나 가족들과의 추억 같은 체험적 이미지에서 도출된 것들이다. 자전적 경험에서 찾은 행복한 이미지를 상상, 과장, 상징, 단순화 등을 통해 변형된 조형 요소들로 자유롭게 재구성함으로써 과거와 현재가 공존하고 기억과 상상이 하나의 화면에 조합된다. 이것은 현실적인 풍경인 동시에 비현실적이며, 상상과 낭만이 어우러진 동화적인 풍경으로 나타난다. 이러한 일련의 작업은, 그 자체로써 내게 행복으로의 초대가 되고 위로와 치유의 실마리가 되어 삶의 원동력이 되어준다. 누구나 가슴 속 깊은 곳에는 삶에 대한 원초적 고민과 희로애락을 간직하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 사소한 것에 감사와 애정 어린 시선을 줄 수만 있다면, 일상의 도처에 숨어있는 수많은 행복과 만날 수 있을 것이다. 나의 작품이 일상에 지친 사람들에게 따뜻한 위로와 행복한 에너지를 전해 주는 메신저로 역할을 할 수 있기를 소망한다. ■ 김선옥

A lot of happiness hidden in everyday life. ● Everyday life could sometimes feel insignificant and small due to repetition of monotonous and tough daily routines. However, the key to the truth of life and happiness may be concealed in the small, nameless moments you often pass by being preoccupied by busy schedules or simply overlooking the importance of them. My work focuses on visualization of such precious happiness found in simple ordinary moments in life via use of my own formative language. The material of the work is derived from the experiential imagery of my memories from childhood and memories with family members. By reconfiguring the happy imagery found in the autobiographical experience freely with the formative elements modified through use of imagination, exaggeration, symbol, and simplification, the past and the present coexist in my painting, and memory and imagination are combined on one screen. The result is a realistic landscape, and at the same time, an unrealistic fairy-tale like landscape mixed with imagination and romance. These series of works themselves bring happiness, comfort, and healing, and ultimately, it serves as the driving force of my life. I believe everyone has a fundamental concern and dilemma about life deep inside their heart. Nevertheless, if one can take a moment to give thanks and affections to those that may be considered trivial matters in life, I believe that person is able to encounter many happiness hidden in everyday life. I hope that my work can serve as a messenger to bring warmth and happy energy to those who may be discouraged and overwhelmed by everyday life’s busy schedule. ■ Kim, sun ok
