당신의 ㅅㅈㅅㅈ

시간, 죽음, 슬픔, 장례식... ● 프랑스의 미래학자 자크 아탈리(Jacques Attali)는 코로나 팬데믹을 겪은 인류의 새로운 문화예술의 주제로 이 네 개의 키워드를 꼽았다. 이 키워드들은 언제나 예술작품의 주요한 주제가 되어왔지만, 전과는 다른 일상 속에 있는 우리들에게 이들은 같은 밀도의 의미를 뿜어내지 않는다. ● 타인과 단절된 고독의 시간, 방어막 없이 가까워진 죽음의 그림자, 전보다 커진 좌절과 슬픔, 울어주는 이 없는 장례식은 지난 1년여간 우리의 삶 속에 깊숙이 들어와 자리 잡았다. ● 본 전시에 모인 8인의 작가들은 우리 삶에 더욱 강렬하게 찾아온 이 네 개의 키워드 안으로 들어가 그 울림을 끌어내 볼 것이다. 전시공간은 1920년대 한센병, 결핵 환자들을 돌봤던 외국인 선교사들이 남긴 8개의 방이다. 죽음의 문턱에 서 있는 타인의 삶을 위하여 헌신과 노고를 아끼지 않은 이들이 살았던 이 공간은 역경을 이겨내고 새로운 의미를 찾는 장이 될 수 있다. 이 안에서 시간은 존재로, 죽음은 삶으로, 슬픔은 정신면역으로, 장례식은 또 다른 생명으로 공명한다. ● 지금 우리가 겪고 있는 상황들이 궁극적으로 언제, 어떤 결과로 마무리 될 지 아직은 알 수 없다. 그래도 우리는 긍정을 연료 삼아 오늘보다 나은 내일을 바라면서 각자의 길을 가고 있다. 우리 모두가 그리하고 있다. ● 자, 이제 여기 오래된 선교사들의 사택으로 들어와 당신의 키워드를 찾아볼 시간이다. 이 안에서 존재는 사랑으로, 삶은 주체로, 정신면역은 성찰로, 생명은 자연으로 또 다시 가득해질 것이다. 조용히 귀 기울여보시길. 누군가 속삭이는 소리가 들릴 것. ● 당신에게 ㅅㅈㅅㅈ는 어떤 의미인가? ■ 박계연

Time, death, sorrow, funeral... ● French futurologist Jacques Attali pointed out these four keywords as the new theme of culture and art for humankind after going through the COVID19 pandemic. These keywords have always been principal themes of artwork, but to us living in an everyday life that is different from before, they don't emit a meaning of the same density. ● Solitary time severed from others, shadows of death cast without any shield, frustration and sorrow greater than before, and funerals without anyone crying entered deep into our lives and settled down during this last year. ● The 8 artists who gathered at this exhibition will go inside these four keywords that have come to our lives much more intensively and try to elicit that resonance. The exhibition space is 8 rooms left by foreign missionaries including Robert M. Wilson who took care of patients with Hansen's disease or tuberculosis in the 1920s. This space, where people who spared no pains to work and devote themselves to the life of others at death's door lived, can serve as a place to overcome adversities and discover new meanings. Inside here, time resonates as an existence, death as life, sorrow as mental immunity, and funeral as another life. ● We can't know yet when and as what result our current situations will end. Still, we're going our separate ways, using affirmation as the fuel and hoping tomorrow is better than today. All of us are doing so. ● Now, it's time to enter this old house of missionaries and find your keyword. Inside here, existence will once again be filled with love, life with subjects, mental immunity with introspection, and life with nature. Try listening quietly and attentively.
