신소장품 2017-2020 : 이어진 세계들

경남도립미술관은 소장품 연구를 기반으로 한 전시, 교육, 아카이브를 통해 관람객들이 미술을 보다 더 보편적이고 친근한 대상으로 접할 수 있는 기회를 제공하고자 노력하고 있다. 특히 신(新)소장품전은 미술관의 주요 기능인 소장품 수집 및 연구 결과를 전시를 통해 드러냄으로써 미술관의 근간을 다지고 관람객들에게는 미술관의 소장품 수집 정책과 방향 및 성과를 알리는 중요한 역할을 한다.

《신소장품 2017-2020 : 이어진 세계들》전은 2017년 이후 4년 만에 개최하는 신소장품전으로 2017년부터 2020년까지 경남도립미술관에서 새롭게 소장한 작품들을 대상으로 한 기획 전시이다. 지난 4년 동안 미술관에서는 총 79점의 작품을 수집하였다. 그중 공모를 통한 매입이 69점, 기증은 10점으로 이루어졌다. 장르별로는 서양화가 50점으로 가장 많았고 조각(11점), 한국화(6점), 영상(5점), 사진(5점), 판화(2점)가 그 뒤를 이었다.

이번 신소장품 기획전에서는 위 작품들 중 전시 주제에 맞춰 선별한 작품 60여 점을 공개한다. 전시는 우선 작품들이 현대미술의 문맥 속에서 읽혀질 수 있도록 하고 공간의 긴밀성과 집중도를 높이기 위해 전시실별로 자연, 인간, 사회라는 주제로 파트를 나누어 포괄적 시각을 설정하였다. 세상의 모든 존재는 유기적으로 맞물려 작동하며, 축적되고 또 변화해 간다. 예컨대 한 개인의 삶이 매우 다층적인 맥락으로 자연, 사회 환경과도 맞닿아 있음을 생각해 볼 수 있을 것이다. '이어진 세계들'은 이러한 모든 일련의 흐름과 순환을 시사한다. 여기서 세계는 어떤 범위를 지닌 특정 사회나 영역을 의미하며, 한 사람 또는 예술가의 작업 세계를 뜻할 수도 있다.

본 전시는 1951년부터 2019년까지 약 60여 년에 걸쳐 제작된 작품들이 선보이는 만큼 한 전시장 안에서 여러 시기와 주제를 넘나드는 상황이 펼쳐진다. 당대의 예술 작품에는 그 시대의 정신과 흔적이 담겨있다. 예술가들의 눈을 빌려 바라본 여러 세계들과 그 연계성을 통해 삶을 차분히 돌아보며 환기할 수 있는 시간이 되기를 바란다. ■ 경남도립미술관

Gyeongnam Art Museum aims to provide visitors with an opportunity to access art as a more general and friendly object through exhibitions, education, and archives based on the museum collection research. In particular, the New Acquisitions exhibition plays a significant role in strengthening the museum's foundation and suggesting visitors of the museum's collection policy, direction, and achievements by presenting the museum's principal function, collecting artwork, and researching achievement through the exhibition. ● The exhibition "New Acquisitions 2017-2020: Connected Worlds" is the first new acquisitions exhibition held in four years since 2017. It is a curated exhibition of newly collected works from 2017 to 2020 at Gyeongnam Art Museum. Over the past four years, the museum has collected a total of 79 artworks. Among them, 69 pieces were purchased through public competitions, and ten pieces were donated. By genre, western paintings were collected the most with 50 artworks, followed by sculpture (11 pieces), Korean painting (6 pieces), video (5 pieces), photography (5 pieces), and engraving (2 pieces). ● This time, the new acquisitions exhibition presents about 60 artworks selected according to the exhibition's theme among the above works. First, the exhibition is organized to be read in the context of contemporary art and to raise the closeness and concentration of the space; it is designed the comprehensive perspective by dividing parts under the theme of nature, human, and society in each exhibition room. All beings in the world operate together organically, accumulating and changing. For example, let's think of an individual's life as being contacted with the natural and social environment in a very multi-layered context. The "Connected Worlds" implies all these series of flows and cycles. Here, the world means a particular society or territory with a specific scope, and it can also mean the art world of one person or artist. ● As the exhibition features the artworks produced over 60 years from 1951 to 2019, there created situations that cross many eras and themes in one exhibition hall. Artworks of a particular time contain the spirit and traces of the time. I hope the exhibition will provide a time to look back and evoke life calmly through the various worlds that we have looked at with the artists' eyes and the connectivity. ■ GYEONGNAM ART MUSEUM
