Painting and Thereafter

한남동에 위치한 갤러리BK(비케이)에서 2021년 첫 번째 전시로 『Painting and thereafter』 을 2월 15일부터 3월 25일까지 개최한다. 세 명의 국내작가들의 시선으로 회화의 영역을 확대하고 삶의 경험과 기억을 스토리텔링으로 풀어내는 작업을 선보이는 전시이다. 회화라는 장르가 단순한 painting을 넘어서 페인팅, 오브제, 믹스드 미디어 등 그들만의 매체를 통해 지속해서 확장된 작품을 재조명 한다. ● 박윤경은 캔버스 천이 아닌 쉬폰, 실크와 같은 투명재료로 그림이 그려지는 행위의 과정을 관객과 공유하고 평면적 회화의 틀을 깨어 회화의 다면성을 보여준다. 언어와 이미지의 경계에서 본질을 탐구하고 그 사이에서 객체와 주체가 사라진 평등한 회화를 그려낸다.

정세인의 작품은 타이포그래피처럼 디자인 적인 요소를 가지고 있다. 읽혀지기 어려운 텍스트는 겹쳐지고 혼합되어 의미를 감춘다. 작가의 글귀로 감춰져 있으며 작가 스스로의 삶에 대한 본질적인 고민이다. 그것을 읽어내는 관람객에게는 내재된 의미들이 표출되어 의미에 대해 성찰하고 함께 소통한다.

김종민은 일상에서 일어나는 다양한 사건을 자신만의 스타일로 재치 있게 풀어내 마치 현대인의 초상화를 보여주는 듯하다. 이처럼 작품은 작가의 자유로운 회화적 표현을 오가며 다양한 이야기로 확대되고 소통의 부재로 인해 멀어진 현대사회를 이어주는 매개체가 되어 관람객과 소통한다. ● 이러한 작가들의 작품들은 관람객들에게 단순히 사유적 감정으로서의 소재가 아닌 또 다른 영역으로 의미를 재생산하고 재해석하여 보여준다. 코로나 19 팬더믹 시대에 지친 불안한 현대인들의 마음을 잠시나마 다독여주며 큰 위로와 변화에 대한 힘을 전달해 줄 수 있는 전시를 선보이고자 한다. ■ 갤러리 비케이

Gallery BK in Hannam-dong is pleased to hold 『 Painting and thereafter 』 from Feb 15th to Mar 25th as its first exhibition in 2021. The exhibition features artworks that expand the scope of painting and share life experiences and memories through storytelling in perspectives of three Korean contemporary artists. The genre of painting goes beyond simple painting and refocus on their continuously expanded artworks through their own media such as painting, objet, and mixed media. ● Yoonkyung PARK shares the process of painting with the audience with transparent materials such as chiffon and silk, instead of the canvas. Park breaks the frame of the planar painting to show various aspects of painting. In addition, Park explores the essence of the boundaries between language and image. In the meantime, she creates an equivalent painting which an object and subject disappear. ● Sane JUNG uses design elements in her work as typography. The overlapped and mixed text conceals the meaning by making it difficult to read at the first sight. The meaning is hidden by her statement which implies the essential concern in her own life. Jung reflects and communicates with the audience when they encounter the inherent meaning expressed in the artwork. ● Jongmin Joy KIM expresses various events in his daily life with his unique signature style as if it is a hyperrealistic-portrait of the modern people. Kim's works expand into various stories by sharing the unconstrained expressions of the artist. Even though modern society has been alienated due to the lack of communication, Kim's artworks also communicate with the audience by becoming the medium. ● Not a subject matter for a personal emotion, these artists' works reproduce and reinterpret the meaning into another area 『 Painting and thereafter 』 presented by Gallery BK aims to provide an opportunity to comfort the exhausted and anxious people from COVID-19 pandemic era.
