Undefined (    )님이 모두에게 : _제71회 홍익대학교 회화과 졸업전시 ● 우리는 어떤 메세지를 송출하고 있을까. 펜데믹 선언 이후 우리는 이례적인 상황에 마주했다. 가상만남으로 대체된 대학강의는 강의실 없이도 강의가 가능하다는 것을 보여주지만 어쩐지 어색하다. Undefined는 Webex(화상회의 프로그램) 채팅창에 뜨는 사용자의 초기 설정 이름이다. Undefined (    )로 불리는 사용자들과 수업, 회의를 진행하다 보면 개인의 정체성이 Undefined로 부여된 듯 하다. 월드 와이드 웹의 가상공간은 세계를 무한히 연결하지만 오프라인 만남의 단절로 그 속에 갇히는 역설적인 상황에 놓이고, Undefined라는 부여된 정체성에 우리는 한정된다. ● 그러나 개개인들은 내재된 밈(meme)을 표출하며 이러한 한정된 상황을 끊임없이 전복시키고자 한다. 사회 체계 내에서 일반화된 개인은 (    )을 채우며 개별 주체가 가진 잠재성을 끊임없이 드러내고 움직인다. 이런 의미에서 밈은 모순된 상황을 기회로 삼아 나아가고자 하는 운동성을 지닌다. 『Undefined (    )님이 모두에게: 』 온라인 전시에서 개별 전시자들은 'Undefined (    )님'으로 나타나고, 웹디자인과 그래픽 모션은 'Undefined'한 개인의 잠재성과 밈의 운동성을 담아 디자인 했다. ● 매체로서 회화는 세대에 의해 시도되고 구축되며, 확장된다. MZ세대의 회화는 재구성, 포착, 반복, 기록 등의 방식을 통해 평면, 오브제와 설치, 퍼포먼스, 미디어 아트 등 형식에 구애받지 않는 회화적 이미지다. 온라인 전시에서 회화적 이미지는 데이터로 변환되어 전시된다. 오프라인의 개별 전시 공간은 온라인의 개별 페이지와 개별 VR로 재구성된다. 미처 다 전달되지 못하는 시각 이외의 다른 감각들은 현장 설치 과정을 찍은 영상에 생동감을 담아 보충한다. ● 실제 작업을 본다는 느낌을 온라인 전시로 전달하기 위해 'Undefined (    )님'은 작품 전달 방식을 유지하거나 바꾼다. 이러한 과정에서 VR 촬영으로 담은 현장과 개별 페이지의 작품 이미지, 그리고 실재하는 작품은 꼬리에 꼬리를 물며 연결되고 끊어진다. 한편, 작품의 전달 방식을 온라인 정보화 하는 것이 아닌, 작품 형태 자체를 웹 게임이나 url 링크를 통해 데이터화 하기도 한다. ● 온라인 플랫폼을 통해 전시된 작업들은 단일하게 복제된 여러 개의 데이터이고 결국 하나의 원본으로 수렴한다. 개개인의 밈적 운동성이 반영된 작품들은 데이터로 온라인에 부착된 채 무한한 연결을 도모하고 있다. ● 무한한 연결을 통해 우리는 어떤 메세지를 송출하고 있을까. ■ 변승연_장유리

from undefined (    ) to everyone : _Hongik University Department of Painting 71st Graduation Exhibition ● What kind of messages are we transmitting? After the outbreak of the pandemic, we have faced totally exceptional circumstances. Virtual classes have substituted our usual university classes, proving that the absence of classrooms can be appeased as such. Still, we feel blundering experiences. The term 'Undefined' is a default name appearing on the interacting chat screen, when first signed up on 'Webex' telecommunication program. As we continue to communicate, meet and study with different users in this particular spatial area; it seems as if one's individual identity is assigned by the given name, "Undefined (    )". The World-wide-web interconnects all around the world boundlessly, but we confrontate a paradoxical moment where we are trapped inside due to absence of off-line meetings. As a result, our identity is restricted by the given name, "Undefined". ● However, individuals express these inherited memes to overcome this limited situation endlessly. Generalized individuals inside the social system, fulfills (    ) to show and move their potentials from each individual subject. In this sense, memes have the mobility to lead these ironic circumstances into a great opportunity. In online exhibition 『from undefined (    ) to everyone: 』, individual exhibitors will show up as 'Undefined (    )' whereas the web design and graphic motion were designed by containing each one's potential and meme's mobility of 'Undefined' individuals. ● As a medium, painting is tried, constructed and expanded by generations. Through methods of reframing, capturing, reiterating, and documenting, the MZ generation's painting is an pictorial image not trapped nor interfered by the form of plane, object and installation, performance, media art and more. Pictorial images converted into data and will be exhibited in an online exhibition. The spatial area for offline individual exhibition will be rebuilt as individual page and Virtual Reality (VR) form on-line, simultaneously. The videos of the actual site installation will reinforce the liveliness of the individual exhibition, overcoming the absence of human senses. ● 'Undefined (    )' will change or maintain its method of delivering workpiece to show liveliness on-line. Throughout this process, the image of the work on individual pages, and the actual work captured by the VR shooting, are connected and disconnected by a tail biting on another tail. Meanwhile, instead of using the online informatization to deliver; the structure of the workpiece can be created as a web-game or URL link through a process of datalization. ● Work pieces exhibited through an online platform are a series of singular replication datas and eventually converged into one original piece. Workpieces portrayed with every individual's meme mobility are attached online as data, planning to create boundless connection. ● Through infinite connection, what kind of messages are we transmitting? ■ Seung-Yeon Byun_Yu-Ri Jang
