대화의 풍경 : 우리는 가끔씩 휘어지던 말을 했다. ● 양정욱 작가는 소소하게 경험한 작가의 일상의 행위들을 글로 기록을 남기고, 이를 묘사하고 함축하여 시각적으로 연출한다. 작가의 이러한 일련의 과정은 작가 스스로가 어떤 상황과 문제를 이해하거나 설명하기 위함이며, 앞서 언급한 日常(일상)은 글자 그대로의 "날마다", "늘, 항상"이라는 뜻을 가진 것처럼 평범한 것 같지만, 작가에게는 매일매일이 시시각각 다르게 다가온다. 그에게는 한 번도 평범한 적이 없었으며, 평범함이라는 단어는 아마도 멈추어진 사물들에 가까운 말인 것 같다고 전한다. 지금 이 순간에도 어느 낯선 이의 삶도, 자연도 변화는 이뤄지고 있으며, 누군가가 자신의 하루가 평범하다고 말한다면, 아마도 과거를 왜곡하여 기억하거나 과거의 기준을 제멋대로 떠올리는 것일 수도 있다. 그래서 작가는 일상을 가만히 들여다보면 모든 상황들은 언제나 예술적인 것들로 가득하다고 말한다.

이번 B39 벙커 특별 전시에서 선보이는 『대화의 풍경: 우리는 가끔씩 휘어지던 말을 했다』는 "대화의 풍경 시리즈"의 첫 번째 작업으로 평생의 동반자와 함께 같은 곳을 바라보며 시작된 스토리이다. 인류학자 게리 채프먼 (Gary D. Chapman)은 결혼이란 상대의 언어를 배우는 것이다 라고 말한 것처럼, 작가도 대화 속에서 서로가 비슷해지고 하나의 모습이 되어가는 과정을 거쳐 점점 각자의 선명한 모습을 찾게 되고, 더욱더 본인 자신이 되어가는 것을 발견한다. 이렇게 각자가 아름답게 익어가는 모습이 작가에게는 즐거운 시간이며, 이런 순간들의 기록을 이번 작품에 담았다. ● 작품은 두 개의 오브제의 형태로 큰 틀을 잡아 두 사람이 대화를 나누는 모습을 묘사하였다. 나무, 실, 모터, 조명, 사운드, 다양한 오브제(작가가 만든 새, 인공 돌, 스티로폼 등)를 사용하고, 각 재료마다 의미가 담겨 있는데, 현재 벙커 브릿지에 놓인 전시 진열장에서 각 피스들의 히든 스토리를 확인할 수 있다. 작품은 과거 쓰레기 저장조였던 39m의 높이의 벙커에서 전시되며, 거대한 콘크리트 더미 속에서 만나는 공중에 떠있는 범선을 연상케 한다. 정적이고 따뜻한 느낌을 선사하는 작품 『대화의 풍경: 우리는 가끔씩 휘어지던 말을 했다』를 감상하며 여느 작품들과 다른 압도감을 느낄 수 있을 것이다. ■ 부천아트벙커B39

The scenery of conversation: We sometimes exchanged awkward words. ● Artist Jung Uk Yang records the daily life of the artist who has experienced little by little, describing them in writing and presenting them visually with connotations. His series of processes is used by himself as a tool to understand or explain certain situations and problems. The word "everyday life" has a different feeling for him, as if the word literally means "every day" and "always." He says "everyday life" has never been normal, and the word "normal" is probably a fitting word for objects that have stopped and not to move. He also says that even at this moment, someone's life and nature keep changing. If someone says his or her day is normal, they may be distorting the past and recalling the past's standards at their will. So, he says that if you look closely at your daily life, all the situations are always full of artistic things. ● The work "The scenery of conversation: We sometimes exchanged awkward words." Is the first work of the series, and begins with a story when an artist looks at the same place with a significant other. As anthropologist Gary D. Chapman said, "Marriage is learning the language of the other person," he also finds that they resemble each other in conversations, find their own vividness, and become more and more themselves. It is a pleasant time for the artist to see each of them change beautifully and more mature, and this work contains a record of these moments. ● The work shows two objects, depicting the conversation between the two by using wood, thread, motors, Styrofoam and various objects he made such as birds, stones, and among others. Each material has its own meaning, and these can be found in the exhibition showcase at the bunker bridge to see the hidden stories of each piece. The work is displayed in a 39m high bunker at B39, formerly a garbage repository, reminiscent of a sailing boat floating in the air.
