내면의 기억 - Memories that Lie Within

내면의 기억 ● 「내면의 기억」 연작은 어떠한 사실들이 역사적으로 기록될 만큼 중요한 장소들을 대상으로 관찰하고, 세월의 흐름에 따라 변화되는 사람들의 인식(정치적, 문화적, 역사적)에 대해 다의적인(polysemous) 의미로 사유하고 표현한 작업이다. 과거로부터 많은 시대적 변화가 일어난 역사적 장소 그리고 지금도 기능을 하거나, 본래의 실질적 의미가 변하여 2차적 의미로 존재하는 장소를 바라보며 '역사적인 장소가 가지는 의미는 어떻게 기억이 될까?' 라는 물음이 본 작업의 계기가 되었다. 「내면의 기억」 연작은 흐릿한 이미지로 설치(installation) 후 촬영하여 의미를 정확히 드러내지 않으면서 모호하고 불명확한 장소로 만들었다. 중성적인 표현 방식을 통해 사실적인 장소를 다양한 의미로 표현하고, 기억에 대한 기능과 역할이 또 다른 해석으로 창출되기를 바라는 작업이다. ■ 박경태

Memories that Lie Within ● 「Memories that Lie Within」 Series are photography works which observed places of facts that are significant enough to even be recorded in history, reasoned about and expressed people's perceptions (political, cultural and historical) which change over the passage of time in a polysemous manner. While staring at historical places where many epochal changes occurred from the past, places which still maintain their historical function or places whose original, genuine significance changed to have secondary meanings, a question 'how is the significance historical places hold remembered?' came to my mind. 「Memories that Lie Within」 Series created ambiguous and obscure places by filming blurry images so that their meanings are not directly or clearly revealed. They are photography works which aspire to encourage the generation of different interpretations by expressing places of facts with a variety of different meanings in a neutral manner. ■ PARKKYOUNGTAE
