새로운 연대

최근 코로나19의 영향으로 전 세계 곳곳에서 생명과 생계를 위협받는 가운데, 평범한 일상에 찾아온 위기는 개인의 삶을 넘어 사회적 연대와 존엄, 안전에 대한 문제까지 제기한다. 한 번도 경험하지 못한 현실 앞에서 사회를 움직이던 동력과 표준들이 속속들이 무너지고, 하루에도 몇 차례 발송되는 긴급재난 문자가 일상이 되어버린 요즘이다. 그러나 재난을 겪으며 우리는 지금까지 익숙한 관성을 깨고 새로운 삶의 방식과 대안을 찾아가고 있다. 그 과정에서 일상을 지켜준 많은 이들의 노력과 헌신을 보았고, 한 차원 높은 시민의식 또한 경험했다. 일상의 많은 변화와 어려움이 한편으로는 삶의 많은 부분들에 대해 생각해보는 시간이 되었다. 평범한 하루가 소중했던 이 시점에, 전시는 일상의 가치와 자유, 개인과 공동체적 삶의 의미를 조명함으로써 지친 나와 당신에게 따뜻한 말 한마디 건네듯 위로와 희망의 메시지를 전하고자 한다.

『새로운 연대』는 포스트 코로나 시대에 함께 살아가는 삶의 가치를 모색한다. 대구의 전도유망한 청장년 작가와 중견 작가 12명은 코로나19와 직ㆍ간접적으로 연결되는 내용을 사진과 회화, 영상, 설치 등의 매체로 선보인다. 이들은 기록과 관찰, 경험과 상상을 통해 재난 속에서 발견하고 공감할 수 있는 시대의 모습을 담는다. 코로나19는 지역을 넘어 전 세계가 공유할 수 있는 공동의 경험인 만큼, 이번 전시는 공동체의 시공간에서 연대의 가치와 의미를 기억하고, 미술을 통해 동시대와 함께 호흡하는 기회를 마련하고자 하였다. ■ 대구미술관

Amidst lives and livelihoods being threatened around the world due to the recent influence of COVID-19, the crisis arising in ordinary daily life raises issues transcending individual lives to concern human solidarity, dignity, and safety. However, the numerous changes and difficulties of daily routines have also caused us to reflect on many aspects of life we had been taking for granted. At this point, when an ordinary day has been precious, this exhibition seeks to deliver a message of comfort and hope as if to offer warm words to the exhaustion that we experience, by illuminating the meanings of the value of daily life, freedom, and individual and communal life. ● New Communion seeks to record stories about COVID-19 and our lives and present the meaning of solidarity in a more expanded sense. The exhibition title is the starting point for this. The word commune means to collectively (com) share (mun). The solidarity we seek to speak of through this exhibition transcends its usual meaning to include the significance of sharing thoughts and feelings, sympathizing, and, further, communing with nature. In that sense, the exhibition pays attention to how people, society, nature, and the environment will coexist and continue their relationships after COVID-19. This is because COVID-19 is ultimately humanity's shared environmental issue transcending human problems. In the disaster, the 12 exhibiting artists find contents directly and indirectly connected to COVID-19 through records, observation, experiences, and imagination; and they present our era's aspects one could respond to. Inasmuch as COVID-19 is a collective experience the entire world shares, it is hoped that this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to remember the value and significance of solidarity in a community's space-time, and to harmoniously work with the current times through art. ■ DAEGU ART MUSEUM
