중국서 불어닥친 코로나 19로 우리는 힘든 시간을 보내고 있다. 금방 끝날 거 같은 현 상황은 전 세계를 강타하고 수많은 희생자와 사회적 거리 두기 같은 초유의 사태에 직면해 있다. 학교와 도서관은 문을 닫고 갤러리와 미술관은 예정된 전시마저 모두 취소되는 더 없는 어려운 시기에 우리는 살고 있다. 예술가들의 삶도 관객과 마주할수 있는 기회가 사라지니 더 외롭고 힘든 시간 들을 보내고 있다. 이에 이 어려운 시기 지역사회서 공동으로 터를 잡고 살아가는 작가들이 모여 우리 이웃과 함께 잘 이겨 나가자는 의미로 희망과 사랑을 상징하는 작품들을 모아 하트란 이미지를 만들고 함께 하고자 하는 메시지를 전하고자 이번 전시를 기획하게 되었다.

이번 전시는 제주시 은남동에 위치한 담소 미술창작스튜디오 작가 14명 강나루, 김미지, 김애란, 김효은, 박금옥, 부상철, 서성봉, 소현경, 소희진, 예미킴, 오기영, 이지현, 정민숙, 최정우 등이 총 280여개 작품을 출품해 하나의 하트모양으로 보여준다. 참여작가들은 이 전시를 위해 지금까지 해 왔던 각자의 작업 스타일에서 벗어나 우리 사회의 고통과 어려움을 함께 고민하고 위로하고자 하는 내용들로 작품을 제작하였다. 제작된 작품들은 사각의 구조물 안에 낚싯줄에 매달려져 있는 형상으로 일정한 거리를 두고 보면 하트 모양으로 보여 진다. 사랑의 하트가 얼어붙은 세상을 녹이듯이 저 들판에 따뜻한 온기를 보태 우리와 우리 이웃 그리고 더 나아가서 우리 사회가 희망과 사랑의 메시지로 거듭나리라는 의미에서 이번 작업을 보여주고자 했다. ■ 이지현

We are going through a difficult time due to Covid 19. The current situation that seems to pass away soon has striked the entire world and caused an unprecedented crisis, resulting in numerous casualties and social distancing. We are living in a period of severity, in which schools and libraries have closed doors, and galleries and art museums are even cancelling the planned exhibitions. Having lost the opportunity to meet with the audience, the artists are spending a solitary and rough time. Hence, as a means to express to overcome the difficult situation with the community, the artists have congregated their works to represent hope and love, creating a heart image and planning this exhibition to deliver the message. ● In this exhibition, 14 artists in Damsoo Studio located in Eunnam-dong, Jeju-si, Kang Na Ru, Kim Mi Ji, Kim Ae Ran, Kim Hyo Eun, Park Geum Ok, Bu Sang Cheol, Seo Seong Bong, So Hyun Kyung, Ye Mi Kim, Oh Ki Young, Lee Ji Hyun, Jeong Mi Sook, and Choi Jung Woo, have submitted total of 280 art works and present them as a heart shape. Participating artists have departed from their usual art style to create a work in order to share the pain and difficulty of our society and to worry and console together. Produced works are hung by fishing line within rectangular structure, and a heart shape can be seen if viewed from a certain distance. Just as love melts the frozen world, through this work we hope to convey the warmth so that our neighbours and our community can be renewed with a message of hope and love. ■ Lee Ji Hyun
