신체가요 新體歌謠 Somatic Drumming

2019-2020년도 청주미술창작스튜디오는 입주기간동안 작품 성과물을 프로젝트 형식으로 선보이는 아티스트 릴레이 전시를 진행한다. 아티스트 릴레이 전시는 스튜디오 전시장에서 그간 작업했던 결과물에 대한 보고전시로 해마다 작가 자신의 기존의 성향과 틀에서 벗어난 새로운 감각과 역량을 보여주는 전시로 진행된다. 13기 열 번째 릴레이 전시로 요한한 작가의 『신체가요(新體歌謠) Somatic Drumming』展이 오는 2020년 03월 19일부터 03월 29일 까지 1층 전시실과 윈도우갤러리에서 개최된다. ■ 청주미술창작스튜디오​

​『신체가요(新體歌謠)』는 "새로운 몸의 노래"라는 뜻이다. 전시 작품들은 악기적 기능과 신체성을 갖고 있으며, 이는 퍼포먼스를 통해 기능적 공간으로의 통로를 만들어준다. 조형 작품에 존재하는 퍼포먼스성은 기능적인 부분을 넘어 또 다른 현상으로의 가능성을 암시한다. ● 마치 사물과 현상 즉, 무생물계에도 정령(精靈) 또는 영혼, '눈에 보이지 않는 어떤 영적인 힘 또는 존재'가 깃들어 있다고 믿는 애니미즘의 정의와도 흡사하다. 물론 이것을 믿는 것은 정신적인 표면에 지나지 않을 수도 있지만, 다른 한편으로는 관계성에 대한 태도적 측면이기도 하다. ● 오늘날 사물과 현상이란 부분에서 스마트폰은 꽤 큰 파급력을 주고 있다. 우리는 매일 스크린이란 표면에 주술이라도 걸린 것처럼 디지털 세계로의 최면 상태로 빨려든다. 이렇게 디지털 체계의 홍수는 신체를 가상체로 변모하며 전례 없는 터널을 통과하는 중이다. 나는 디지털 퓨처리즘에 빠진 이 시점에서 과거의 문명으로 잠시 눈길을 돌려본다. 가령 보이지 않는 세계가 존재했던 시대나, 신의 영역과 인간이 공존했던 고대의 시간을 돌이켜보면 설명하기 힘든 울림이 존재한다. 이러한 근원적인 관계는 오늘날 SNS나 온라인 상 이루어지는 관계나 소통의 성질과는 사뭇 다른 차원으로 다가온다. ● 문명이 반복하듯이, 우리의 찬란했던 디지털 문명 또한 언젠가는 과거로써 존재한다는 가정 하에 전시는 고대적 맥락으로 바라본 현대적 풍경을 자아낸다. 오래된 두드림으로 시작되는 소통은 세계와 세계를 연결하는 통로가 되고, 가상체에 익숙해진 공허한 신체에 대해 질문을 던짐과 동시에 깊은 몸 또는 새로운 몸에 대해 환기하고자 한다. ■ 요한한

『ShinChaeGaYo』or 『Somatic Drumming』 means "songs of a new body." The works in the exhibition has instrumental functions and physical characteristics, which create a pathway to functional space through performance. The performativity that exist in art works suggests the possibility of another phenomenon beyond the functional part. It is similar to the definition of animism which believes that objects and phenomena, such as spirits or souls, or invisible spiritual forces exist in the inanimate world. Of course, believing this may be nothing more than a spiritual surface, but on the other hand, it is also an attitude towards relationships. ● Today, smartphones are giving quite a ripple effect in things and phenomena. Every day we are sucked into a hypnotic state into the digital world, as if we were possessed by a spell on the surface of a screen. Such a flood of digital systems is passing through an unprecedented tunnel, turning the body into a virtual body. At this point of time when we are immersed in digital futurism, I take a moment to look back to the archaic civilization. For example, when we look back on the days when the invisible world existed, or the ancient times when the realms of the God and man coexisted, there is an indescribable echo. This fundamental relationship comes at a level quite different from the nature of social networking and online communication today. ● As civilization repeats, the exhibition creates a modern landscape viewed in an archaic context, assuming that our brilliant digital civilization also someday exists as a past. Deep drumming becomes a conduit for connecting the world to another world, while at the same time asking questions about the empty body used in the virtual world, evoking deep or new body. ■ Yohan Hàn
