침묵의소리 Sound of Silencel

이세훈 작가는 실용성 위주와 전통적인 도예 성형방식을 벗어나 일련의 조각 작업과 흡사한 과정을 통해 작품세계를 표현하고 있다. 그는 소성 후 표면의 유약을 갈아내고 다시 샌딩하는 방식을 수차례 반복한 후 왁스를 바르는 방식으로 작업한다. 이것은 작가가 개발해낸 색다른 방식으로 흙 자체의 자연스러운 질감미를 돋보이게 한다. 작가는 이렇게 차별화된 제작과정을 통해 도예의 영역과 의미를 확장시키고 있다. 그의 작업의 모티브는 주로 인간의 군상이다. 반신상, 두상, 토르소, 드로잉등 만원의 근원인 흙을 결합하고 분리하면서 작품을 이어간다. 그가 내 놓은 이번 작품 「인간시대」연작은 여성의 이미지를 통해 알레고리적 요소와 현대사회의 모태를 연결하는 작가의 정신적 세계관을 담고 있다. 전체적으로 둥근 정형의 이미지와 비정형의 유기체적 이미지가 공존하며, 실재 소재를 추상적 이미지로 압축한 듯한 서정적 분위기를 연출하고 있다. ■ 박효원

Lee expresses his artistic realm through the similar process of sculptural work instead of following the standard ceramic method and its practicality. After a firing stage, he scrapes off a surface glaze and then repetitively sanding several more times then covers with wax to complete the process. This is the unusual process that the artist has developed, and this makes to stand out the beauty of natural texture of soil. Through working on this kind of different process, Lee is expanding the range of ceramics and its meaning. For most of his works, he usually applies the motives of group of people. Moreover, he continues on working while combining and separating earth that is the origin of everything such as half-length figure, the shape of head, torso, drawing and so on. The work 「The Age of Human」 that is selected for this exhibition contains the artist's psychological world that connects the allegorical component and the root of modern society through the image of female. Overall in this work, the irregular organic image and regular round image coexist; therefore, this work represents the sentimental atmosphere that seems like it compressed the existing matter to the abstract image. ■ Park Hyo Won
