발전과 변모가 현저한 아시아. 현대사진·미술계에서도 아시아를 향한 시선은 더욱 뜨거워지고 있습니다. 본 전시는 가족, 섹슈얼리티, 젠더 본연의 형태에 초점을 두고 변해가는 아시아의 현재를 소개합니다. 출품작가는 중국, 싱가포르, 대만, 한국, 재일코리안, 그리고 일본 여성 작가로 구성됩니다. 나라도 연령도 경력도 다른 그녀들의 작품은 아시안 컨템포러리 작품으로써 높은 평가를 받고 있다는 공통점 외에도 여성의 가치관이 다양하게 변모하는 아시아의 "현재"를 공유합니다. 그녀들은 각각의 현실을 직시하며 각각의 "현재"를 골똘히 생각하고 지속적으로 제작합니다. 그 시선너머에 있는 것, 그것은 "사랑에 대하여"라는 주제로 모아지고 있습니다.

재일코리안으로 태어나 두 개의 코리아와 일본이라는 상이한 문화에 직면하면서 어느 하나의 문화를 선택하는 것 보다는 그 다양성 자체가 본인의 정체성이라고 이해하는 김인숙. 국제결혼 후 제주도에 이주한 것을 계기로 타자와 공생하는 어려움은 어디서 유래하는지, 그리고 그 곳에서 어떤 정체성을 가지고 함께 살아갈 것인가를 주제로 한 김옥선. "쥐안춘(眷村)"이라는 지역의 사회적 문제와 그 지역에서 한결같이 생활하는 사람들을 촬영한 호우 루루 슈우즈. 자신의 신체가 언제 사라질지 모르는 상황에서 그 신체와 정체성의 본연의 모습을 찾으려고 시도하는 스도 아야노. 자해가 죽음에서 멀어지기 위한 긍정적인 일면을 갖는 행위라고 이해하는 첸 즈. 자신의 가족간의 어색함을 풀기 위해 가족 포트레이트를 촬영하면서도 그것만으로는 서로의 관계를 회복하기에 부족하며, 진짜 사랑은 이미지너머에 있으며, 사진은 진짜 사랑을 얻기 위한 하나의 과정이라고 생각하는 제랄딘 강. ● 6명의 작가 모두 카메라 너머의 시선은 피사체를 향하는 동시에 그녀들 자신의 내면으로 향하고 있다. 카사하라 미치코의 이하 인용문에서 볼 수 있는 "서로"라는 단어는 타자를 이해하며 사랑하는 것, 그리고 타자와 공생하는 자신을 바라보며 사랑하는 것으로 이어짐을 우리에게 알려준다.

発展と変容の著しいアジア。現代写真·美術の世界においても、アジアに向けられる視線はますます熱くなっています。本展は家族、セクシュアリティ、ジェンダーのあり方に焦点をあて、変わりゆくアジアの現在をご紹介いたします。出展作家は、中国、シンガポール、台湾、韓国、在日コリアン、そして 日本の女性アーティストによって構成されています。国も年齢もアーティストとしてのキャリアも異なる彼女たちの作品は、アジアン·コンテンポラリーとして高い評価を得ているという共通点以上に、女性の価値観が様々に変容するアジアの"今"を共有しています。彼女たちはそれぞれの現実を直視し、それぞれの"今"に思いを巡らせながら走り続けています。その眼差しの奥底にあるもの、それは「愛について」。 ● 在日コリアンとして生まれ、二つのコリアと日本という異なる文化に直面しながら、どれか一つの文化を選ぶのではなく、その多様性こそが自身のアイデンティティであると理解する金仁淑。国際結婚をし、済州島へと引っ越したことを機に、他者と共生することの難しさは何に由来するのか、そしてその土地でどのようにアイデンティティをもち、ともに共生していくのかをテーマとしているキム·オクソン。「眷村（けんそん）」という土地の社会問題とそこでひたむきに暮らす人々を取材し撮影してきたホウ·ルル·シュウズ。いつ自分の身体が消えてしまうかもわからない状況の中で、その身体とアイデンティティのありかを探ろうと試みる須藤絢乃。自傷行為が、死から逃れるための前向きな行為という一面を持っていることを理解するチェン·ズ。自身の家族間の気まずさを和ませるために、家族のポートレイトを撮りながらも、それだけではお互いの関係を修復するには不十分であり、本当の愛はイメージの向こう側にあり、写真は本当の愛を得るための、一つのプロセスであると考えるジェラルディン·カン。 　6名の作家すべてが、彼女たちがカメラを向けるとき、そのまなざしは被写体へ向けられると同時に、彼女たち自身の内側へも向けられている。笠原の以下の引用に見られる「お互い」という言葉は、他者を理解し愛することは、他者と共生する自身を見つめ愛することへとつながってゆくことを、私たちに感じさせてくれるのである。 ● "フェミニズムもジェンダーも男と女の対立概念ではない。それは共生の思想であり、あらゆるセクシュアリティ、人種、民族、年齢、階級の人々が、お互いとお互いをより良く共に在るための、お互いがお互いをより理解するための、お互いがお互いをより愛するための、常に現在進行形の、たゆまぬプロセス上にある行為なのではないかと思う。" (笠原美智子「ジェンダー─記憶の淵から」、『ジェンダー 記憶の淵から』展図録（東京都写真美術館、1996年）より) / (展覧会図録テキストより 執筆) ■ 山田裕理

Asia is undergoing a period of spectacular transformation and development. In the fields of both contemporary photography and art interest in Asia continues to grow. This exhibition will focus on the current state of the family, sexuality and gender to introduce the changing face of contemporary Asia through the work of women artists representing China, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Zainichi Korean (residing in Japan) and Japan. They may vary in nationality, age, and artistic career, but are all highly regarded as Asian contemporary artists and through their sense of values they share the ever-changing 'now' of Asia. Each of them confronts their reality and the 'now' directly, to keep moving forward. In the depths of their gaze, we are able to see that they 'know something about love.' ● Kim Insook was born a resident Korean in Japan, but faced with the triple cultures of Japan and the two Koreas, she chose none of them, finding her own identity in diversity. Kim Oksun, who married a foreigner and moved to Jeju Island, questioned the reasons behind the difficulty of cohabiting with another and what kind of identity she should adopt as they live together there, using this as the theme for her work. Hou Lulu Shur-Tzy focused on the Military Dependents' Villages and the social problems facing the people who are resolved to live there. Sudo Ayano considers the state of her body and identity while living in a situation when her body seems on the verge of disappearing. Chen Zhe looks upon self-harm in a positive manner, considering aspects of it as being a way of escaping death. Geraldine Kang started to take portraits of her family in order to overcome the barriers she felt within the home but this proved insufficient; true love lay on the far side of the images and so she devised a certain process by which her photographs could capture this love. When these six photographers look through their cameras, what they see is not only their subjects but also their own inner beings. When we read Ms. Kasahara's quote below, we realize that living 'in harmony, closer understanding and with a greater love' towards others, allows us to also focus on and love ourselves. ● "Neither feminism nor gender represent a concept of conflict between men and women. They are an ideology of coexistence that states that no matter what a person's sexuality, race, age or class, they should all live in harmony, closer understanding and with a greater love for each other. It is an onward-going process that knows no end."
