This is Orchestra

「This is Orchestra」는 현대미술과 클래식 음악 그리고 코딩의 만남이다. 내가 느끼는 오케스트라의 구조는 축소된 현대사회와 많이 닮아 있다. 그래서 오케스트라를 통해서 요즘 현대인들이 느끼는 다양한 정서를 표현하고자 했다. ● 오케스트라에서 지휘자의 역할은 매우 중요하다. 개성 강한 악기들을 조화롭게 이끌어 웅장하고 아름다운 선율을 만들어 낸다.  「This is Orchestra」를 통해 관람객이 직접 곡 전체를 컨트롤 하는 지휘자를 경험할 수 있게 하였다. 자신의 지휘에 따라 선율과 음악을 만들어 그 순간만큼은 온전히 작품과 혼연일체 되는 감정을 느끼게 될 것이다.

전시장에 설치된 각 악기들은 연주자 없이 다양한 종류의 모터와 전자 장치를 이용하여 작동되며 중앙부에 놓인 지휘자의 단상에서 이 악기들을 지휘 할 수 있다. 관람자와 오케스트라의 소통과 교감을 통해 비로소 작품이 완성된다. 다양한 감정과 움직임의 지휘는 끝임 없이 새로운 선율을 만들어 내기 때문에 관람객들은 서로 다른 경험으로 「This is Orchestra」를 기억할 것이다. ● 미술관 제2전시실에는 수십개의 모터를 이용한 인터렉티브 사운드 작품 「Music-Storms」가 공간을 가득 메우고 있다. 전시장에 흐르는 음악에 반응하여 수많은 선들이 춤을 추듯 힘찬 회오리를 만들어 공간 전체를 심미적으로 변화시키는 설치작품이다. 이러한 음악의 시각화는 감상자의 감각을 자극하게 된다. ● 관람객들이 일상의 오브제와 재료들의 조합이 만든 악기들로 구성된 오케스트라의 지휘자가 되어, 관조자가 아닌 주체를 경험함으로써 작품을 더 깊이 이해하고 새로운 생각을 열 수 있는 기회가 될 것이다. ■ 최종운

「This is Orchestra」 is a spectacular commune of three forces : modern art, classic music and computer coding technology. I believe that the structure of orchestra resembles modern society in a miniature version, and it intends to express a wide range of various feelings and emotions that modern people encounter. ● Conductor is important in orchestra. He or she harmonizes various musical instruments having their own different sounds and personalities and produces grand, majestic or beautiful, magnificent melodies. By the same token, 「This is Orchestra」 enables audience to vicariously experience being a conductor who controls music from beginning to end. According to your moving hand, you become the very art as the melody and music created by yourself become you. ● Each musical instrument situated in the exhibition hall is operated by various kinds of motors and electronic equipments, and one will be able to conduct on the stage in the middle of the hall. All of these eventually complete a whole art by the communication between orchestra and audience. Conducting directed by your own motions and emotions makes new melodies endlessly and helps to make you remember 「This is Orchestra」 in your heart in the form of various but different experiences. ● 「Music-Storms」, an inter-active artwork made of dozens of pieces of motors, fills up the space in the 2nd exhibition hall. It is an installation artwork that changes the whole space aesthetically as powerful whirlwind with numerous lines, as if they are vividly dancing, interacting with music, fill the space. The visualization of music stimulates the emotions of audience. ● Audience becomes a conductor in an orchestra consisting of a variety of musical instruments that combinations of everyday's objets and experiences lead to, and thus it lets us experience being a subject person, not as an observer, and helps us understand the art in a more profound manner and provide opportunities to open up our minds to new ideas. ■ CHOICHONGWOON
