모호한 세계로는 2018년 인천아트플랫폼에 입주해오고 있는 9기 국외입주작가 라미스 하가그가 6월부터 8월까지 인천에 머물며 작업한 결과물에 대한 전시이다. 라미스 하가그는 2017년부터 서류와 이력서로 사람을 평가하는 세태를 비판하는 프로젝트 「How Do I Look on Paper?」시리즈를 진행해오고 있다. 이번 전시는 이 프로젝트의 일환으로 인천아트플랫폼이 소재한 '인천시 중구'에 관한 두 개의 인터렉티브 설치 작업을 선보인다. 작가는 집집마다 문에 새겨져 있는 두루미, 차이나타운의 붉은색 원형 문, 그리고 골목길과 주변 언덕과 조계지를 나누는 계단 등 아트플랫폼 주변에서 마주쳤던 장면과 특징들을 가지고 수수께끼와 같은 이야기를 만들어낸다. 그리고 이를 강화도에서 생산하는 한국 전통 직물인 '소창'에 담아낸다. 또한 작가가 지역의 주민들에게 직접 전해들은 이야기는 유리그릇에 담긴 물이 관람객의 목소리에 반응하는 설치 작업으로 재해석된다. 작가는 이 프로젝트를 통해 개인이나 집단 특히, 이번 전시의 경우는 중구라는 지역에 대한 기억과 생각을 기억하는 새로운 대안을 제시하고자 한다. ● 라미스 하가그는 이집트 출신으로 카이로와 토론토를 오가며 활동하고 있다. 2008년 이집트 헬완 대학교 순수미술학과에서 학사 학위를, 2013년 캐나다 캘거리 대학교에서 순수미술학 석사 학위를 취득했다. 하가그는 공공장소에 개입하는 작업을 비롯하여 퍼포먼스, 설치, 인터렉티브, 회화 같이 다양한 매체를 사용한다. 그녀는 카이로와 토론토를 비롯해 캘거리, 베이징, 다카르 그리고 베를린에서 전시와 레지던시 프로그램에 참여한 바 있다. ■ 인천아트플랫폼

Towards a More Ambiguous Worldis Lamis Haggag'ssolo exhibition showing the outcome of her residency period at IAP (June to August, 2018) as part of her series 'How do I look on paper?' The series rejects evaluating people based on their write-ups and documents, which she has been working on since 2017. This exhibition presents two new interactive installations, aboutarea in the city of Incheon,IAP is located.Sheed visuals and features that she encountered throughout her stay, such as the cranes that are engraved on a number of residential doors and the hilly landscape and stairs around and through Jung-gu and thenown mystical story. Thepatchwork is constructed mainly of So-Change fabric from Ganghwa Island and Korean traditional fabric.The second project involves actual stories and thoughts narrated to her by residents of the area. When the exhibition visitors recite those stories out loud, the water in the glass vessel reacts.Through interactivity with the public, the series provides alternative means to document memories and thoughts that constitute the narratives of individuals, places, and groups of people. ● Lamis Haggag is an Egyptian artist, who lives and works between Cairo and Toronto. She received her MFA from The University of Calgary, Canada in 2013 and her Bachelor from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt in 2008. She works with a variety of mediums, such as performance, installation, interactive installation, painting and public intervention.
