스페이스 윌링앤딜링에서는 2018년 5월 4일부터 5월 24일까지 로와정 작가의 개인전 『sunday is monday. monday is sunday』를 진행한다. 전시 기간 동안 각 작품별로 제작 과정을 보여주는 로와정의 수행적 활동을 볼 수 있으며 퍼포먼스, 만담, 옥션 등 다양한 프로그램이 마련된다. 김성우 아마도 예술공간 책임 큐레이터가 공동 기획으로 참여하는 이 전시는 관객과 작가, 그리고 작품간에 발생하는 다양한 공간적 시간적 변화들이 지속적으로 발생하는 독특한 체험을 제공한다. ■ 스페이스 윌링앤딜링

"...일이 진행되면 현재는 이미 과거가 돼요. 현재는 스르르 과거로 편입되지요...우리는 항상 그 흐름에 맞서서 수영을 하죠. 미래가 과거로 변해가는 혹은 녹아드는 그 순간이 바로 현재의 순간인 거에요. 현재는 미래가 과거로 변하는 순간인 거죠..." (호르헤 루이스 보르헤스) ● 『sunday is monday, monday is sunday』는 정해진 공간과 시간 안에 다양한 시간과 공간을 응축함으로써 결과로 귀속되는 과정에 의문을 제기한다. 하지만 본 전시에서 과정이 결속된다는 것이 곧 인과에 따른 과정과 결과의 관계를 의미하는 것은 아니다. 작가에게 창작의 과정은 곧 전시라는 결과로 종결되곤 하지만 로와정은 오히려 그 고정된 결과로부터 자유롭기를 시도한다. 이것은 과정이 곧 하나의 결론에 도달하는 것에 대한 저항이다.

전시에는 세 개의 시간축이 존재한다. A, B, 그리고 C. 각 시간축에는 서로 다른 상황이 펼쳐진다. 전시의 기간 중 A는 B의 과정을 거쳐 C에 도달한다. 하지만 각 단계는 과정인 동시에 서로 다른 시점에서의 결과이기도 하다. 관객은 어떤 특정한 시기에 각 단계 A, B, 또는 C를 접하고 서로 다른 각자만의 현재의 상태를 마주하게 된다. 그리고 그 상태는 우연성과 우발성을 전제하기에 인과관계가 일정치 않은 비선형적 구조를 취하고 있다.

현재는 미래가 과거로 변해가는 순간이라고 했을 때, 작가가 미술을 통해 기록하고, 시각적으로 눈앞에 고정시킨 그 현재적 상태는 과거가 된 미래일 것이다. 그리고 그것을 마주하는 관객에게는 그 순간이 곧 서로 다른 현재로 존재할 것이다. 본 전시에서 로와정은 생산자로서의 작가인 동시에 곧 시간이라는 변수를 통해 관객을 공동의 생산자에 위치시키는 매개자의 역할을 자처한다. 그리고 공간을 특별한 시공간-전시로 만드는 것은 공간의 타임라인을 장식하는 모든 공동 생산자의 몫이 된다. 하지만 앞서 말한 것과 같이 서로 다른 일시적인 순간들의 이어짐으로 인해 특별해진 시공간의 흐름은 일관되기 어렵다. 로와정은 『sunday is monday, monday is sunday』에서 이러한 서로 다른 현재의 시간을 어떻게 전시 안에 재편성할 수 있느냐의 문제를 통해 서로 다른 시간 축이 충돌하는 순간-전시를 만들어내고자 한다. 『sunday is monday, monday is sunday』 questions the process that various time and spacial experience is condensed into designated space and time. However, it does not necessarily mean that the unity of process is equal to cause-and-effect relationship. Process of creation often results in an exhibition, but RohwaJeong intends to be free from the results. It is one way of resisting to an assumed premise that process leads to one conclusion. ● In this exhibition, three different time axis exist, which are A, B, and C. Each time axis, different situation spreads before us. During the exhibition period, A goes through B and finally reaches C. Each phase is a process as well as result in different point of view. Audience can experience A, B, or C in different time period, but what they confront is present state that differs from what others would see. Since that state presupposes contingency and eventuality, this structure has a nonlinear structure with irregular causal relationshhip. ● If one presumes that present is a moment when future turns into past, artist documents through art, fixed present state is future which becomes past. And the audience who would witness, the present-ness will become different present state. In this exhibition, RohwaJeong is an artist as a producer, and a mediator who situates the audience as co-producer with variable of the time. To make this exhibition space somewhat special space-time-exhibition is in the hands of co-producers. However, as mentioned above, when temporary moments are connected, flow of this space can not be consistent. The artist intends to make emporary-exhibition where different times axis collide by reorganizing different timelines. ■ RohwaJeong
